Eurofighter may have lost the last battle, but they did manage to shoot down over half of all the Su-57's on the planet.

I’m always partial to a Eurofighter, having been involved with manufacturing them at BAE Samlesbury. I built some parts for the front fuse. dashboard, computer mounting trays, hydraulic and aircon pipes, various other items. SU-57 has Ram built into its skin. Its a honeycomb composite skin. Then add the exterior coating which is detailed in the Wings Over Russia documentary on the Aircraft. Its also detailed how durable the skin is with them allowing the journalist to stand on the skin in normal shoes and mount the cameras.

I had to watch this in two pieces today because of Dad life, and hot damn, both halves were equally entertaining!! Amongst all the incredible flying, the highlight of which in my opinion was at the end of the 3rd round, with that impressive Matrix vs Simba dogfight!! That being said, the moment that sticks with me most was when Super Cap quoted Commando!!! Apparently, we grew up on all the same films, because you literally always quote the favorites from my childhood, almost all of which I still watch today!! In fact, last night, the wife and I watched Predator, the classic 1987 Predator, as our way to remember the late great Carl Weathers!! Great flying as always Grim Reapers!!

In the second battle, the Euro fighters fired their meteors much later than the first battle and were stacked on top of each other, resulting in many more deaths.

I agree with Matrix, the AxeHead is still over-modelled in DCS. It's designed to shoot down bombers, not fighters, and isn't that maneuverable in real life.

Su35 also has a somewhat lower RCS than the SU-27, the 35 uses composites on several exterior parts for both weight reduction and signature reasons.

Hello Cap, i need to say this. In the previous video, i saw that the RAM coated version SU57 has the RCS around 0.01m2. But today's video it shows that the RAM coated version of SU57 shows the RCS around 0.12m2, which is quite confusing. Is this a mistake, or you just forgot to update it. I'm just curious to know.

I'd be interested in see cost for cost battles, where the sides are balanced based on their estimated current replacement cost. The classic quantity Vs quality battles.

I think Simba in the SU-35 might have been a bit desynched, you see him briefly flying through the ground without hitting it which might be why most of the missiles fired at him ploughed into the ground.

Thank you for at least using Axeheads this time, but the missile is compatible with the Sukhoi Su-57, Sukhoi Su-35, Mikoyan MiG-31BM, and Mikoyan MiG-35. To think one side would use its latest and greatest Meteor that was put into service in 2016 and the other side would not use a missile developed in 1989 is neither fair nor accurate.

Hmmm Typhoon has a reduced RCS with counter measures so those MIG 31s would not have a good lock even with those axe heads that far before the typhoons

Always love watching your videos, but I can't help but feel the Meteor is massively underpowered. Even going off just Wikipedia it states "110 Nautical Miles +" which equates to roughly 120 Miles, and the plus sign at the end is a clue that it's actually much closer to 150 miles. Would also be keen to see you guys do a mod for the RAF Typhoon's new ECRS Mk2 RADAR which is supposed to be more powerful than the F-22 and more capable than the F-35. It's supposed to be a genuine game changer - although I do appreciate atm, all of your AESA RADAR are the same, so maybe a difficult thing to model.

Enjoyable video - it is interesting to think about the relevance of the Eurofighter as time goes by. Further into the future another thought that occurs to me is that the old debate from the late 60s about lots and lots of cheap aircraft versus fewer highly capable aircraft: is that slightly back on in a different form? With high technology increasingly falling through the floor in price, as well as ease of use, is the western way of hundreds of hours of training something that might be less applicable with missiles that can find targets 100+ miles away, and planes that can fly themselves?

It's interesting how stealth is still modelled completely ignoring all modern advances defeating it. Stealth was a game changer in 1970 - but they didn't see the giant leaps forward in digital signal processing coming -- where RADAR returns can be massively amplified into a wall of noise and tiny, tiny constants be picked out of the noise in real time. This is how modern RADAR systems work. British Type 45 destroyers can detect and track "stealth" aircraft at the maximum range dictated by the curvature of the earth which is about about 225 miles if the plane is at 30,000 ft or 300 miles at 60,000 feet (good luck getting fat Ami up there!) even in the 90s in the Gulf the old all-analogue Type 42s were tracking F-117A at about 150 miles - but then they were L band RADARs which work well against stealth aircraft. Typhoon notionally has an old RADAR in CAPTOR-M but the back-end data processing system is pretty-much the best in the world which is why it's been so hard to better it with newer front-end technology. This whole stealth thing is now a ruse - the people who have extracted over a trillion dollars out of congress can't now admit it's pretty much pointless going to the expense of producing so-call stealth aircraft in the modern world. Gen 4 aircraft are easily upgraded and can have the latest sensors bolted on to them and be ready to fly in 6 months. It takes 5 years to integrate anything new into F-35 - and by the the time you've done it - the new thing is out of date. This is why the USAF recently cancelled a massive order for F-35A and bought F-15EX instead.

Have the GR planes have AESA radars? None of them apart from the SU-57 have them at the moment (eurofighter soon)

I’m a bot confused with the Meteors range here. I thought you took your stats from wikipedia which give the meteor a range of 110 nm. At least 10 more than you have given it.

Eurofighters are still very probably the best 4th gen fighters on the planet right now. But 4th gen can be defeated with super long range interceptors it seems. Now I do doubt the ability of the R-37's ability to actually shoot down highly maneuverable fighters. But then again, they can be AWAC guided which is an absolute nightmare for 4th gen.

maybe this has been answered. but i never got an answer to my question. Why is ECM never being used?none could think that a pilot would use every possible advantage in a fight. so if you are going against meteors, why wouldn't you use ECM to close the gap?? also, enemy might loose lock

Mig-31 uses high speed and high altitude, then launches high speed long range missiles at long to medium range. In real life Mig-31 would never engage close range. Other fighters would if available. Mig-31 would be on it's way home.

A UK documentary in the early years of the Eurofighter showed an RCS test screen of a Eurofighter prototype with two ASRAAM and four conformal METEOR. The frontal RCS was displayed on TV and I captured the screen. Look at this RU-vid at minute 41. The RCS is very low. More F117 than Rafale.

Why did the SU35 not have R37M?

Massively overpowered Russian weapons and none of the sophisticated features of Typhoon modelled. R-37 is an 1960 era solid fuel rocket with a primitive steering system, it'll rely completely on kinetic energy at range. Easy to evade if you "see" it coming. Which Typhoon would easily detecting the RADAR emissions, a tranche 3 onwards Typhoon would not only identify the missile it will even plot a theoretical evasion strategy for the pilot in his HMD.

Just for your information the su57 has a known radar cross section variant from 1 to 5 M2 depending the angle he’s at to your radar so it’s really a 4.5 gen max and out of the 7 or 8 actually in service none are combat ready and the Chinese j20 has about the same but very bad engines that has to be changed after 2 sorties because they are completely junk.

Dumb tactics to have the longer range missile but allow the enemy to close within their range!! Keep them at long range where your strength is!

Seeing as Russia has trouble doing minimum maintenance on their aircraft… I can’t see any chance of them keeping their 57’s stealth coating viable in any real use case.

Su-57 carring 6 Adders 3 per pylon, not 2. The same goes for a meteor, besides the fact that it doesn’t exist in reality, but let’s put that aside, it cannot fly faster than 3M due to its aerodynamics and type of engine.

No You're parameters are inaccurate For a few examples. We don't see any input from the Khibiny ECM, which as you know is purpose built to degrade the lock and track functions of the meteor and the amraam. The pick up you seem to have fed in for their aesa looks to be well below even the published specs. You have only given them the old R77 and not the totally modernised R77M, which amongst other improvements has twice the range and kinematic delivery. So yep, even though you did show a Eurofighter loss tally, the real result would have been far worse for Eurofighters. Which is why the UK badly needs Tempest. Until then though it's not good.

By the time SU57 is operational in numbers GCAP will have already been fielded 😁

This is nonsence comparison. pilots definitaly dont use the ability of their planes.... In mostly cases I didnt see any avoiding maneuvers to be missed by the rockets. Lots of planes just flew straight ... In real battle the results would be much different. I guess with better results for russian planes.

Absolutely pointless when the game you are playing doesn't model the meteor missile anywhere near how the actual missile operates ... and you should know that it has 2 engine burns in its flight .. the second being a powered final stage to target !!! Sorry but your scientific video is pointless !!! And any video you have made featuring it is flawed and out and out wrong !!! Do your research !!!
