Core modules:
* Metron is a 16 channel trigger and gate sequencer
* Mimetic Digitalis is a 4 channel CV sequencer with a 4x4 grid of CV values. Triggers can move the current position with Next, X, Y, Random, or Origin triggers.
* Bitbox is a sampler module that can do slicing
This heart of this patch works by using Metron to both trigger samples AND to move the cursor on Mimetic Digitalis. The Random and Origin triggers are being used. Triggering Origin from Metron gives the sequence a sense of home (where origin is the tonic of the key).
Since Mimetic Digitalis is a 4 channel CV sequencer, it's driving 3 layers of this patch:
* Grand piano single notes
* Electric piano single notes
* Electric piano chords
There's a couple of other minor things happening. Everything except the BD808 bass drum is being mult'ed and run through Mutable Clouds (the uClouds version). The left/right output of Clouds is going into a VCA, with Filter 8 setup as a phased LFO, cycling the volume of left and right channel with a sine wave slightly out of phase with each other.
There's also a texture/pad layer made from the EP piano single notes sample, which plays a sample in reverse, then loops a sub-section of that sample.
Primary signals are mixed together with a Befaco Hexmix. Primary, effects, and bass drum are mixed with Erica Stereo Mixer v2.

this is very good, the panning effect one with clouds(?) is such a nice detail

Thanks! What was happening there was a combo of 3 modules: Clouds (clone) with the density up and 100% wet going into two VCAs, one for left/right. The level of the VCA was being modulated by a sine LFO from Filter 8. What makes the panning effect is that I used LFOs in a different phase from each other so that it feels like its sweeping across the stereo width. Filter 8 with its 8 phased LFOs is great for this kind of thing.

Though it’s known as a performative techno module, would you consider the mimetic digitalis to be a good module for making ambient as well?

I feel like the difference between techno and ambient is the difference of how fast things are triggered, the emphasis on rhythm over texture, and the use of layering and time effects. Ambient lends itself well to a more generative approach, that MD does well. Which is a long way of saying, I think it's just fine for ambient. Check out this recent video by Ricky Tinez on pairing MD with a quantizer: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-36m-lwU2TH4.html You can also see in the video above where I'm using the CV from MD, not as 1v/oct, but as a means to select a pre-set selection of sounds (samples in this case).

@@ferrycollider thanks so much for the response. I always get amazing feedback from people in the modular community. I think I’ll be buying the MD

@@alexr6527 here's an example rack I threw together real quick, of an ambient-focused case integrating MD -- www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1460691 There's two dedicated sound sources (Dixie, MCO), but Tides, Filter 8, and Rings double as sound sources too. MCO has a digital noise output which can also feed Rings. Quadrax or Tides serves as your envelopes. CV is driven by Pressure Points, MD, Tides, or Quadrax. CV sources can be fed into Bard Quartet (not released but should be out soon), which grants 4 channels of quantization. Links can be used to combine CV to feed the quantizer, or combine quantized CV coming out of the quantizer. Tempi and Magneto serve as clock sources. Tempi is fun because you can change timing with tap tempo as you go to create different rhythms live. Two main space creators: Supercell and Magneto. Both are different and allow a lot of space to be defined. DTM, Tangle Quartet, and STMIX providing mixing. Tangle Quartet also doubles as a VCA and attenuator. Possible swaps: 2hp DC for a 2hp Atten. Pressure points for Polyend Preset. Supercell for Monsoon, giving room for other modules. Rings for a more standard filter.

@@ferrycollider dude thank u sm for putting that together. This puts a ton of things in perspective. I’ve been looking for a way to incorporate the MD into an ambient and this does it perfectly
