As frustrating as this podcast was to make, it was also really entertaining for the audience (dare I say, almost as a byproduct), so thanks for the entertainment and sorry about the frustrations. Great content as always!

I applaud your willingness to stick it out and re-record the podcast! I was listening to a podcast where they had to do it three times. Can you image? They were completely deflated by the time they finally got a recording. Thanks for trying to be energetic while retreading old information!!

It's fun to hear about your learning experience, as someone who went to school to learn and worked in television I really miss those early phases. When you start to know what you're doing but you don't know what you DON'T know if you know what I mean? You might not be the best or most effective but you're creative and fearless in a way it's almost impossible to recreate once you know more. I think this is why a lot of artists and movie directors go into "experimental" phases later in their careers. After I had finished school and worked a bit I realized that there's nothing but paint-by-numbers, everything is decided by committees. For a seemingly creative field it's mostly logistics and politics.

I will say, I definitely could feel a shift from the “written” videos to the “on the fly” videos. Katelyn didn’t feel as authentic (not that this was bad, just felt it was like ur giving a speech, etc) to how she is when she’s just being herself!

I really loved hearing you guys talk about this topic. Because I’ve been here though all of it! And I’ve noticed and seen all these things. I’ve absolutely loved watching both of you grow and change over time. You guys are so amazing and I can’t wait to watch you guys to continue and grow!!

It's interesting to hear how/why your filming and editing styles evolved.

Comparing some of your older videos to now, you can definitely see more of your personality shine through in the recent videos. Stuff like leaving in "bad" takes or showing you joking around makes it feel very natural and fun. Being used to this video style and then going back to older videos, it almost feels like you were holding back with the goofiness to make your content more serious and educational. I enjoy the new focus on casual entertainment and personality.

I’m excited to find my edit style and learn what to record and what not to. For now it’s all good practice. Thanks for the behind the scenes to show that everyone learns as they go

We really like the stage 4 editing. Leaving in the oh nonononono moments and the pizza giggle goofiness makes you more relatable and accessible. Not to mention the imperfect moments reinforce the “Make. Fail. Make.” success equation for the kid. #eandkeepingitreal

Best podcast to listen to while working

E&K make whole podcast on video editing.. Then decide not to edit video on video editing ;) Evan.. cups with lids! Thankyou for this guys! .. I've just started documenting the process of building a steampunk prop for my first youtube video on my channel (Arcane Armoury )... so far its been a rollercoaster!.. The memory card corrupted and I lost all my first round of video( cue dismay and sads) ..then had to spend hours recovering it with some clever software... think I got most of it back (phew!) Ive not edited stuff like this before and im kinda at a loss how to find and pick music to fit.. it seems you need the music to help drive the edit but there is SO MUCH out there where the heck do you start??? ...you could spend hours listening to try and find somthing that might work.. my video will just be footage backed with music ..but equally I can't spend hours on end listening to tons of tracks ... feels like a catch 22.. any advice .. do you guys know any good free royalty free music sites (cant go for a subscription one yet) Great podcast as always,just got finished watching your minecraft nether basement vid too... Heave Ho pt2 will be my evening entertainment!

I heard 'headlamp' and 'glowing gems' and my brain started yelling "Argh, spiders!! Run away!!!!". My brain doesn't like spiders, but it thinks snakes are super cute.

This is great insight, it's so cool to hear about other editing processes and how it's similar/different or how it has changed. I was relating to a lot of this for real. Finding those methods of maximizing efficiency is sooooooo worth it, especially while finding your style. This was a great one 👌

That bit about the spiders freaked me and mum out haha. I quite liked the way some of your edits matched the music, like in the geode table when Evan is grinding up to the line with the precision carve and it matches up perfectly with the music. Just that one bit managed to stick out to me even after so long since watching it

Whenever I have built fences, I always butt the boards together due to the fact that they will experience shrinkage as they dry out. I don't think you need to worry about the boards being too close together! :)

Love this, thanks so much for this video! As someone who is just starting their RU-vid journey (like I'm literally trying to edit my first video) this is amazingly helpful. I started with the "phase 2" style where I filmed everything, and I have so much footage it is insane! Honestly, it didn't even occur to me that I don't have to film everything, which in hindsight seems ridiculous, lol. Thanks for your insight and hopefully this will help me to be better prepared for my next video. You guys are awesome!

Great chaos podcast ! Listening to it made me want to rewatch some of the videos you put as examples and we can really see the evolution, it's weird 😅. You looked so different and a lot less comfortable 😂 I love that you put your goofiness in your videos now 😍

As a Communication Major this was fascinating to hear your editing styles and how they've grown over the years, and I can really see it watching your older videos compared to your videos now. Congrats on the amazing progress over the years and all the amazing work that you two do! PS: This was my first podcast to listen to of yours and it was such a blast, that hour went by fast haha. Do you recommend watching them from the beginning? Or does the watching order not really matter you think?

32:25 haha rewatching some vids now. Watch this, watch the older vids, watch this. Have you ever got so caught up in editing mode that your brain wants to edit non recorded moments? Like something happens and your like, welp lets edit that out.

Feel like I’m so late but I’m slowly catching up and I loved this podcast! Also hearing how someone else edits is very helpful because the struggle is real 😂. I edit everything on a 5 year old iMac and crashes would happen more often than not but then I start using proxies (are are pros and cons) and that stop the crashing...it’s adobe so it’ll crash regardless. Hope that helps in anyway also editing with pro res 🙌 (for Mac’s) I will never go back haha Again this was such a fun podcast second takes for life!!

So, super specific question.... There's an edit at the two minute : three second mark of the "making mozzarella" video where you zoom and track Evans hand. HOW DO YOU DO THAT?!??! I almost thought you were going to talk about that type of effect toward the end of this video, lol

You can only see spider eyes when you use a headlamp! They don’t show up unless the light is close to eye level.

In our front yard we have a patch of dirt (that used to be grass and a tree) where we are growing alyssum flowers, and at the time, zucchini. I was covering the zucchini one night because the temp was supposed to get low and we didn’t want them to freeze. My mom was shining a light for me and she could see something glowing, and moving. I couldn’t see it but she directed me to the right area, and it was a spider and his eyes were glowing. So apparently that’s a thing. Don’t the Minecraft spider eyes stand out in the dark too.... 🤔

I hadn't seen the video and I spent a good 3 minutes googling and trying to figure out what a "floodle" was

Indoors in a climate controlled house, as you do in Texas, the chance for major wood movement is small. That said, I've never seen you guys do anything that looked really sketchy like cross grain construction or trying to just glue end grain.
