I run a construction company. As for building a house, talk to an architect. Most of them don't charge for first consultation and the entire point of their job is to help you decide what you need in your home or room sizes or the best layout for this or that. If you feel like you don't want to build a house because you don't know exactly what you need, I think talking to an architect would help you.
@zitronentee2302
@zitronentee2302 3 года назад
serious question from someone from germany would it be worth it to build a house like we do here in germany? i always hear that its too expensive to build it that way and americans rather "rebuild " or "reconstruct " every few years instead of building one house that literally can withstand everything. for example the situation that happend / still happens in texas. i only use a small heating panel in my room and i have a comfortable temperature in my room because even in my old house the insulation and windowinsulation is that good. so the texas situation wouldnt be possible here
@arwynnnnn
@arwynnnnn 3 года назад
@@zitronentee2302 I don’t think so American houses are really cheaply made like paper walls some fiberglass a couple sticks and a door or two and BAM $950,00 out of your bank account to buy a nice (kind of) house that is NOT custom or built for you and it kinda sucks 🤦
@TrekkerMoto
@TrekkerMoto 3 года назад
@@zitronentee2302 Its not that the houses are built badly, its that Texas' climate does not normally get that cold, so the houses were never designed for that and that is why there is problems. The US has massively different climates from one area to the next. Here in California, there are places that are over 100 degrees most of the year, they will never see freezing temperatures, so they aren't built for that. Just like where I live it has never snowed, so our homes are not designed to support the extra weight of snow, but in places where it snows, you have to account for that weight. With no electricity, there is no heat, no water filtration, nothing. Their power grid was not designed to see those extremes so it couldn't keep up. Infrastructure of an area is built for what that area is expected to see. For instance, living where is has never once snowed, why would I spend the extra money to have more support for the snow that will never be on my house? Economically and environmentally, it does not make sense. Also, it isn't that we rebuild every few years. Remodels are to update the home. They still work as they did, but people have the money to spend on making their home look newer. We have homes that were built in the 1800s that look like they were built yesterday because of this.

@@TrekkerMoto ah ok thanks for explaining :) i guess i just cant wrap my head around some things . like , when you see those stupid fail videos, when someone crashes into a wall inside his house and the wall has a dent. thats just - in my mind - poor construction. but just like you said , maybe walls this thin are better for a specific purpose that i just dont know because when i jump against my wall i definitely wont dent the wall. i would more likely dent my skull and thanks again for your examples , that was very helpful :)

This is true for rural Texas. If your neighbors don’t have at least two broken rusty trucks parked in the yard beside their double wide and a pitbull tied out to a small tree using a leash, you aren’t really rural enough to hear these things. I live in such a town. Our neighbor’s riding mower broke down, so they hitched their HORSE to a tree in the yard so it could graze mow... 🤦‍♂️

One thing that's always surprised me about Evan and Katelyn, is that for such creative and fun people they're also extremely efficient and technical too. Life things like buying a house are so complicated because of trying to meeting all of your requirements (lots of windows, close to the city, lots of room and/or land, a pool etc etc) and trying to find that within in your budget, but even things like how do you even decide your budget or where to look etc. The fact that these two record their viewings and make spreadsheets to figure it out with maximum efficiency is just very impressive to me.

Just floating an idea...for art and furniture pieces, maybe create a system where you auction them off to your Patreons or Twitch subscribers, and the money goes to charity? That way, a fan gets an art piece, you don't pile up infinite projects in the house, and a bit of good happens in the world. :)

So, you need to find a nice, move-in ready, "standard house" that's maybe 2200 square feet or something. THEN build an attached (or right close by connected by breezeway) garage/building that has an upstairs "bonus room". This means you can always do a resale and market that square footage as an in-law suite with workshop, rent it out as an air bnb space - whatever. Now you're on maybe an acre or 2, not several and in the middle of nowhere. Just make sure you build your custom area to have heating/cooling plumbing - full on services so that it can always be transformed to living space instead of work space. This kind of plan lets you upgrade on space, but not so huge and custom that you're stuck there with no way to ever get a proper re-sale. GL you crazy kids!🤣😂🤣 Love your channel, Karen in NC

Then look for a house that has all your home requirements already in place but with enough land to build a large workshop/studio on the same land. With wanting to be able to see the tv in the living room from eating area, y’all may have better luck with more modern built homes (no formal dining - that space is added to the living, kitchen and one dining area - and more open concept). Ok here me out! What if you lived near an industrial park and you could just drive a mile or two to your space that had a garage shipping and receiving area and an indoor office space with many setups or stages. Katelyn could keep your home super tidy the way she likes it then...but it would be less convenient since you have to drive. It also might be more expensive than just getting a bigger house. But the pros could be that you can always buy more spaces or rent space as needed and the internet could be faster.

They could always do giveaways on the channel for projects that they don't get a lot of use or enjoyment out of- after their families get first pick ofc, but I understand the need for more space overall. A cool thing is if and when they do find a home, before they move into it they could always do a stream designing it in that $2 game to show their chat and plan out their ideas. Plus they can do a house tour once they acc move in. Obviously when buying a house you'd want to buy something that meets your requirements, not having to change it, but I am excited by the possibility of home DIY/home improvement videos that could come from any changes they'd wanna make to their new home.

Here’s the solution- buy a “normal” house on an acre or 2 of land... then build a separate building on your land to hold all the business related parts you need- workshop, studio, materials storage, shipping/receiving space, etc. Helps draw a physical line between work space and home space. Definitely better for resale- and you could also deconstruct your bonus building to move it with you if you decide to move again! 👌🏼❤️

I wouldn’t underestimate how important an at home office is the current climate, I think a lot of people are WFH and having that seperate space is important... and I doubt that will be changing anytime soon. Also! I’m not sure what it would be called in America but in Australia we have granny flats which are like a mini home that is on the same land a main house and that could be your office/workshop space that adds value once you sell for people who want to live with their parents/older children whilst giving them their own independence or a home that can be rented out later etc!

If it were me, I'd look at buying a house that's a bit bigger than your current one, maybe a slightly larger garage, an extra room or two, but on an enormous block of land. I'm talking serious acreage. Then you can plan and build your dream home _right next door!_ Maybe not quite as much acreage as Cody'sLab, where your driveway is an hour on a dirt track, but big enough to subdivide the land in two after you built the new house, and your neighbours would be out of earshot. At least for most loud activities. Yes, that would put you further away from all those nice restaurants, but maybe you could set aside a specific night each week to drive into the city and have a night out on the town.

LOL We are exploding at the seems. ( new house in the next year or so, fingers crossed!) New houses are so much fun, I can't wait to see what you guys do with a new space.

I live in The Hill Country, and honestly, driving thru the hills to get to the grocery store & restaurants is half the fun! The drive and views are so nice that it doesn't take long to get used to the 20 minute drive to get "somewhere". I've been making that same drive for 20+ years, and I'm still not tired of it. Which surprises me! Earlier in my life I lived outside of Dallas. I had to drive about 25 minutes to get into the Dallas burbs. But that drive was so boring, it made me sleepy! The land is flat, and the roads are pretty straight. And the scenery is just buildings, and endless houses. For driving, it's a total yawn fest. At least for me it is. Here in the hills it's the opposite. The drive is interesting, even kinda fun to drive. At least my drive is. Some Hill Country driving is straight roads, so it depends on the location. If you're seriously considering The Hill Country, try not to discount the drive into town. Try it out first. It might be a nice relaxing, scenic drive!

You can freeze leftover avocado and defrost it whenever you need it. When my local grocery stores have avocados on sale I buy a ton that are ready to cut or almost ready, bring them home and slice them all up. Then I put them into gallon freezer bags in a single layer (if you stack they will be so hard to separate the right amount when you need them) and freeze. I use them in smoothies regularly but also for impromptu guac 🤤

I once moved somewhere without thinking about storage space.... after that it was never a problem to think about again, with my current house I embraced the idea of more space than I need to have room to grow, and it is such a relief to never have to worry about putting big things somewhere. Also as I'm further in the video now, I once heard something from someone building a house that really stuck with me, "Don't build the house based on what you think other people like for the sake of selling the house in the future, it's my house, I'm going to build it how I want, if I want it to appeal to other people then I'll just buy a house, it'd be a hell of a lot cheaper". And even if you don't build a house, it may not hurt to talk to an architect, talking to someone whose life revolves around design, comfort and utility would have a lot of insight for what fits you

So there are a couple restaurants here in San Antonio that we have gone to that also use a bit of orange in their guac (Like a squeaze of orange into it as well as lime) and it's super good. I've now added that as a staple into the guac I make at home and I freakin love it. It's just something about that little bit of citrus that compliments it so well.

Are you too lazy to say the proper word, guacamole? I don't understand people who shorten random words that don't have a common short version, such as info for information. Is is because so many people insist on stupid texting vs. actually calling or emailing a person? I'm not old, but hate texting and people who are lazy with language.

@@CGT80 Guac is a pretty common term, at least where I'm from. I don't understand people who leave rude comments to strangers for no reason when you could easily just stop reading and move on.

HI there! I love watching ya’ll! Born and raised Texan, obsessed with resin. I do foundation repair (over 20 years) and also have a sister company with my fiancé where we build new custom homes and remodels. We are in Chappell Hill, TX and just completed a custom build in Santa Fe, TX. One sister just built a custom home in Houston and another sister built a semi-custom home in Buda, TX. Any questions, we are happy to help. We were all raised by builder/contractors. There is so much to know, like the type of soil that you are building on or are built on. You do NOT want to have to deal with foundation repair/leveling. Also, Matt Risinger in the Austin area is a great resource. His videos are great.

Just keep in mind that what you want isn't always what you need. You may want to live near places with tasty food, but do you truly need to live close to them if you look at what you truly need, which is space? Just something to keep in mind.

Buy a cilantro plant and keep it on your kitchen windowsill! Then just cut off a couple sprigs every time you want to make guacamole. And if it's in the kitchen it'll be easier to remember to water it, since it's near a sink.

I was in this position last year (literally bought my current house on March 1st 2020), I don't know for the US but here in Canada, the prices are only going up both for houses and for renovation materials, and the house market is crazy. A house listed at 350k will have bid wars and sell at 420-440k with 8-10 buyers queued up. I hope you guys have great luck at finding the right house for you along with all the compromises on your criteria of nice to have and needs.

Hope your house hunt goes great. Depending on what you need for your off camera life; When my mom and I were roommates we decided to use the Master bedroom for the Computer / Gaming / Office. It was the largest room. We could use the master bath without disturbing each other. And there was enough room for me to have all my computer equipment. (I'm in IT) You could also look for a property in a commercial area. Some commercial areas allow you to live there as well and you might find something that suites your needs. I have seen sites with workshop and business stuff on ground floor and living space above or behind. Just a thought

Where I live is a suburb. It's a 4 bedroom house with a quarter acre of land so we've got a decent sized yard and it's pretty quiet, however the nearest town (Burrough really) is only a couple miles away so tasty food is not too far.

You should check out Timberwood (specifically the houses on west oak estates) It is technically outside the city limits of San Antonio but within 15minutes of anything you need. I grew up there and most houses have 5+ acres of land. A lot of the homes have pools too. It’s a bit pricey but most of San Antonio is.

You need a biiiggg garage ! That’s where you should store supply, camera, parcels, space for filming, etc. Maybe a separate building. You can look for atypical property. If you could find a place that has already been used as a workshop that would be cool ! Indeed you need maybe the triple or quadruple for your actual garage for your making buisness. You need to put shelves, a special built storage for certain items that required it. Think where you would need to store cardboard. Where you would store built projects. And it’d important that these are real places with good light good insulation and cooling, etc. Easy access thinking that you may need to load or to empty a car

You need a country suburb that is close to a main street highway that gets you to food in 15min. Like a place that would allow goats 🐐 lol. Maybe you guys need a finished basement for "work" and then you'd have you main floor as home. So you have it together but separate. Im super excited for yall! Also maybe something to keep in mind i have always found that my best, most happy, decisions have been made when I didn't expect them to appear. Take the time you need, the house will surprise you.

Hey folks. I know yall are Houstonians. You should look into the New Caney and Splendora Area, it is about 25 minutes north of Houston.. That way you could literally have enough land to have a studio. The people out here are super nice. Valleyranch, Tavola or Artavia are big communities nearby. Those areas have fiber internet.

I have a friend that felt the same way as you do about designing and building their new home (they also run a business from their house). Their builder told them to imaging each of the rooms they need as a separate space, almost a separate house for each usage they needed their house to fulfil and build all they need for each room in that tiny house, and once they have done that work out which parts could be stand alone buildings and which parts need to be within the family home. This allowed them to really realise all the space that was needed for every part of their life and work. They ended up with a smaller live in house and another building that fulfilled all their business needs and has 2 rooms you can also live in if need be. So their home life and work life split and the commute between work and home was a 40 second walking commute.
