How can you not love Sepp Kuss?? "First time nobody's passed me on a time trial"! Such modesty and honesty we don't see very often from professional athletes in any sport. Jumbo Visma needs to do the right thing here and ride for Sepp until he proves he can't defend the red jersey. Roglic has already won this race three times. And Sepp has been a big part of that as well as for Vingegaard's two TdF wins. It's time to support Sepp. What a story that would be!!

Honestly, it's NBD in terms of Jonas. He had almost no dedicated training between TDF and the Vuelta and I really think Jumbo wants to send Roglic up for the win. Sepp was the happy surprise of the day! Great to watch him ride so well and his interview was pretty funny. I do think he's probably ready to hand off that red jersey lol. He's not usually a fan of this much pressure. I also enjoyed seeing a great show from Soler - I'm so happy to have him in the spotlight after being solely in the service of Tadej - and also Ayuso. SUPER happy to see the win for Ganna, I was all-in for him. This was an ITT for the books and it's so nice to see a grand tour that isn't just about two riders duking it out while the rest of the peloton plays second fiddle. I'm excited to see the rest of this tour plays out!

Kuss is a very likeable rider, but I genuinely don’t understand how people think he could podium over Vingegaard. If it’s Tour fatigue taking its toll on Vingegaard, shouldn’t Kuss be even more fatigued having ridden both the Giro and the Tour already? He hasn’t really looked significantly stronger than Roglic or Vingegaard in the mountains, so far.
@prfit
@prfit 10 месяцев назад
Kuss didn't ride for GC in the Giro or the Tour so he only works half the days. He doesn't have to be stronger than Roglic or Jonas, he has to outlast Remco. And if Remco is going to sit on the front and go a steady pace, he won't drop Sepp unless Sepp attacks to his teammates' advantage and his teams overall chance of winning (with Roglic or Jonas).
@lalala-vh4pi
@lalala-vh4pi 10 месяцев назад
@@prfit The thing is though, minutes can be gained or lost in the mountain stages. Kuss himself said that in his interview. As a world class climber, he speaks from experience. If he’s not on the same level as his fellow GC contenders, his comfortable lead can be easily lost in any of the remaining 4 mountain stages. Keeping that lead isn’t as easy as it sounds. And I’m not saying he has no chance of winning, I just think he has less odds than Roglic or Vingegaard due to fatigue carried over.

Remco targeted the world's time trial and prep for that is not ideal for what is needed for the Vuelta. I would say that Roglic is the best prepared, followed by Remco and then least prepared is Vingegaard. It's actually amazing the level Vingegaard can still reach given that he barely trained after TdF and is well past his peak. This is gearing up to be a very interesting Vuelta. Hopefully nobody crashes out and we can have all the GC favorites duke it out in the mountains.

Vingegaard will at best reach the podium in this years Vuelta, and that will be a huge accomplishment. It’s physiologically not possible to recover so fast for another GT shortly after winning TDF. Especially given the fact that he has been relaxing and slowly training again, this time not in heights but home in flat Denmark. Hence, hematocrite values at start of TDF vs Vuelta would be quite different, and in addition, the decline in hematocrite during a 3 weeks GT (TDF) will leave him at a lower level than at the start.

I feel that people are too critical of Vingegaard’s time loss on a flat ITT. It’s clearly not his forte unlike the hilly ITT in the Tour. He doesn’t look as good as he was in the tour, but I wouldn’t count his chances off for the GC just yet. If he doesn’t perform on Tourmalet, maybe by then it’s over for him.

There is a reason why almost nobody wins the Tour de France and the Vuelta in the same season. You would have to go undercooked into the Tour de France, which isn't an option for Vingegaard against a rider like Pogacar. This is entirely normal; you can't withold a physical peak like that for months. The people you see criticizing Vingegaard are either people with absolutely no knowledge of cycling or endurance sports in general, or it is butt hurt fans of riders Vingegaard beat. Pogacar-fans, most likely.

I wonder what happens if Jumbo gets put in the situation where Roglic has a wobble (like stage 16 or 17 of the Giro this year), what do they do with Kuss? They probably would send Jonas to help first, but it doesn't look like Jonas is improving during this GT (which makes sense considering he had very little preparation)

I think Jonas makes a fantastic domestique. I know he has 2 Tour wins, obviously, so he's 'overqualified' as a domestique. But if he is honest with himself, and feels he doesn't have a real chance to win, he would seemingly be content with one of his teammates winning La Vuelta, and I get the feeling he'd ride to fully support his teammate(s). He would be one of the very best assistants you could ever have in the mountains. Reminds me of Adam Yates of UAE in the 2023 Tour, being amazing help for Tadej. I am warming up to Jonas. If he ends up riding to support Roglic or Kuss, he'll have huge respect because of it!

One wonders: Jonas pulls off a totally amazing, dominant ITT in the TDF, and then gets totally dropped in the Vuelta ITT. Analysis? Relatively flat course for the Vuelta's ITT (hillier favors Jonas)? Other possibilities about which we keep our lips zipped? One thing this shows for sure, as far as I'm concerned anyway, is that one ITT in the TDF or other grand tour doesn't prove much.

I have no idea why Jonas not being able to be at his peak throughout the year is supposed to be evidence that he is doping. If anything it would be far more damning if he came out from this and just dominated all the other riders who hadn't been part of the Tour. I will say this 100 times, the playing field is level, either all are doping or none are.

@paulnorman8274
@paulnorman8274 10 месяцев назад
@@kingjasko He wasn't winning that much. Pretty much only showed up for the Tour. He also wasn't winning by "That Much." Cycling is a mature sport. Greatly contested. He was just a bit better, at The Tour, consistently, for a period. Just as is the case with training, and nutrition, and rest and recovery, doping is also something some are better at than others. That everyone had access to the same drugs, and everyone did them, does not mean they all had equally good programs built around their availability. Lance's setup; including everything from natural talent, perhaps even talent for absorbing and benefitting from EPO, to training/rest/recovery _In_The_Presence_of_Doping_ (which differs from training Without Doping), was, in total, a bit ahead. He was obviously an outlier, like all multiple TdF winners, but not something completely removed from what has come before and after. If you want to see doping vs not, look at Bodybuilders pre vs post anabolics...... Whatever riders may be using now, does not appear to give nearly the insurmountable edge free-for-all EPO use did. Endurance athletes have just recently started reliably creeping past records set in the 90s. In cycling, mainly due to electronic gears, better aero and much more precise measurement and training on account of improvements in stationary trainers. I'm sure they still pop whatever they think they can get away with, but I'm not sure anything currently not tested for, is all that significant. Jonas, being the world's most talented big-mountain climber but from a country where the longest climb is a freeway overpass; almost certainly has benefitted more from the shift to trainers and general obsession with watts and power curves, than any "supplement" he may be taking. He has eaten a lot of fish over the years, I suppose. Which is healthy. But then again, Lance was from Texas, where frisbee sized steaks are what's on the menu.....

If I am Jumbo Visma DS, II will have Vingegarrd and Primoz sit on Evenepoel wheel like glue! Let Kuss go on a break or attack in the mountain if possible! Evenepoel and his team will have to do all the work otherwise! hey, a Kuss win is a win for the team!
@the_rzh

Red jersey can't get into a break, it would be a waste of energy and position. Strategy should be the opposite. Sepp should not work, just follow Remco. Remco has to attack since he is behind. When he has a moment of weakness or the incline is right, Roglic should attack. Vingegaard isn't a factor unless his form recovers.
