1:48 "Lose a Star automatically?" You're thinking of Eternal Star. Bowser embraces the Random Dice Roll nature of his board and rolls a block to determine what you lose. But speaking of Eternal Star, losing the dice roll to one of the Baby Bowsers makes you lose a star. Because why not.
For Eternal Star, it would make sense that you waste the 20 coins and not get a star, that feels fair, but getting minus one star in addition to losing the 20 coins just seems way too punishing for something you have absolutely no control over. I always thought that was really dumb. Then again, it's not like the first Mario Party game was a fair one at all in most regards lmao.
That being said, the Baby Bowsers do make a point that you're "betting" for a Star. But even if you don't have control over it, at least you're forced to get at least an 8, so it's an unlikely occurrence.
@@gravity8120 Somehow I frequently get it. IMO they should have made it that you roll 6-10 instead of 8-10 or something and that if you don't win the dice roll you don't get the star and don't get a refund. That would be balanced and not overly punishing and would make it fun to play. I really appreciate the board for its music and the warp course mechanic, but the -1 star gimmick is the only real gripe I have with the board.
Mario's Rainbow Castle is basically Castaway Bay in Mario Party 6. I'm surprised it's the #1 because it's so luck-based on whether or not you'll roll high enough numbers to get there when Toad is there instead of Bowser.
@@megarotom1590 they don't guarantee anything. You could still roll a 1 at the worst possible time and that "strategy" goes out the window. At least it's not as punishing as Castaway Bay where you can lose a star for no fault of your own.
Lots of these boards can be very frustrating, but almost all of them are like that, and that's what makes it fun Wario Battle Canyon with the random firing, Eternal Star with rolling dice blocks to get the star, Magma Mountain Junctions, and toad swapping with Bowser on the Yoshi and Mario boards all just fall on random chance. But you can see your friends react to everything going terribly wrong and its completely out of their control As for boards like Luigi's Engine Room and Peach's Birthday Cake, there is still a random chance of getting completely screwed over, but those two boards aren't nearly as unforgiving as the rest, and that's why they are my favourites.
I'm very interested in the fact that DK's Jungle Adventure was so low on the list. I forgot, when people voted, could they vote for only one board? Because if that's true, I can see why it was lower on the list. :P It's a good board, it just doesn't really stand out in my opinion, so it wouldn't be most people's first choice. But I love this selection. Mario's board is definitely number 1 for me in terms of Mario Party 1. Yoshi's board and Peach's board are also really good. Luigi's board hmmmm, it's okay, not the best. :P Bowser's Magma Mountain is absolutely the bottom of the barrel across Mario Party boards. I think it's the worst one in the history of Mario Party.
3rd place board is in Superstars! 5 updates on the board: They added an item shop, if you land a happening space around the cake you'll get an option to pay 5 coins for a piranha plant seed that steals coins from other players who lands on it, a shortcut below the top of the cake where the star is, and if you go to the Bowser pudding area, you won't do the Goomba seed lottery again, and the number of spaces have decreased from 58 to 53.
I still cannot remember the theme that plays in the background after the intro, yet it's on the tip of my tongue... And yes, the music in this game is epic, especially Eternal Star. One of the few things I miss from this game are the team games, where all 4 players work together
Coincidentally, the 3rd and 2nd best boards, Peach's Birthday Cake and Yoshi's Tropical Island, returned in Mario Party Superstars I wish they also added Mario's Rainbow Castle, a remaster of the board and its music would've looked beautiful. Tbh, I wish Luigi's Engine Room also returned
Mario Party 1 is the best (for me). 2 is a close second and 3 is .. The fourth. And 4 is third. Then DS 6 7 8, .....5 and nobody talks about the modern era. Nobody. xD
Honestly this hate on how Mario Party is too random, is kind of a wasted argument. Random is basically the essential gimmic and everyone just complains about those factors. If you don't like random, Why are you even playing these games?
It being random isnt the only reason. Its just a mean game if it were a person it'd probably steal candy from a baby, poison the candy, and then give it to another baby which is why people dont like this mario party. Other mario parties while they are still random and can still make you rage are still generally fair boards nowhere near as harsh as MP1 is.
8: Wario’s Battle Cannon (Aka how to make the most boring and bland board imaginable. Board? More like bored) 7: Bowser’s Magma Mountain (This entire experience is unique but stupidly unfair and unpleasant) 6: Eternal Star (This one looks so ugly, it is way more creative and fair than all the rest ranked lower) 5: Luigi’s Engine Room (I love the wall gimmick, the robots, and the pipes. But, something about it isn’t as good) 4: DK’s Jungle Adventure (It’s just Bowser’s Magma Mountain but way better because it’s more fair) 3: Mario’s Rainbow Castle (Holy crap! The music in this is such a vibe) 2: Yoshi’s Tropical Island (This board is so cute and puts a huge smile on my face. So yeah, I love this one!) 1: Peach’s Birthday Cake (Without a doubt one of my favorite Mario Party boards ever made)
@@GanonAutumn777 The first game in most franchises rarely understand their own strengths. Doesn't really excuse them when the game is actually sort of bad, imo. Like, MP1 was acceptable when it initially came out but there's no reason to go back to it nowadays outside of nostalgia.
I would've actually voted for Bowser's Magma Mountain. Yeah it's punishing but it's equally punishing for everyone involved. Plus there's a lot of risk VS reward involved with this board. Do you pay money for a chance to skip the last junction? Or do you risk going forward for a chance to see Boo? Lots of questions like these make this board interesting to me. Plus, Bowser taking a star from you is very unlikely. You would have to screw up 3 junction-rolls in a row for that to happen.
Well, i came here because i was searching about Mario Party 3 Rare Items, then i saw your vids, i liked it, and now you have a new sub! I really like this videos!!! Keep it up! =) Also i didnt remember so much about Mario Party 1 maps, its good to see this =)
DK's Jungle Adventure: A fair board but the boulders sending you back to start basically are annoying. Peach's Birthday Cake: No Boo here and the Star being in one spot is referencing. However, Flower Lottery that forces you to pay 10 coins is really annoying. You basically need at least 30 coins and a little luck to even make it to Toad. Yoshi's Tropical Island: My personal favorite board. I love the tropical theme and the event where Bowser and Toad switch places isn't too annoying. However, the Bogus Item is brutal at 30 coins. Wario's Battle Canyon: This board sucks. Tough to navigate through, going past a Bob-omb forces you to a new island. You don't get a say. I barely get stars on this board and often resort to using the bonus stars to help me win. Luigi's Engine Room: Fun fact, this was the first board I've ever played in the original Mario Party. Anyway, while it isn't annoying to navigate as with the previous board, it's still a pain to get from point a to point b. Especially since you have to pay a very steep price of 20 coins just to switch the gates. MP3 does this way better with Woody's Woods where you only pay 5 coins if you want to switch the signs. Mario's Rainbow Castle: A fairly fun board but losing 40 coins if you're unfortunate enough to run into Bowser? Jeez. And it doesn't help it tends to switch between him and Toad a lot. Bowser's Magma Mountain: I also agree this is the worse board in the game. It's pretty darn hard to keep even 20 coins in this board due to the path roulette thing and the "Turn all blue spaces into red spaces" Happening event. Enternal Star: Definitely the best designed board in the game imo but paying for a chance to get a star isn't bad. Even if the odds are way in your favor, the fact there is still that chance to lose and you even LOSE A STAR if that happens is pretty bad.
Hooray, another amazing video by MPL!!! ^o^ Damn that disrespect on MP1. For me, I guess it's somewhat of a guilty pleasure, but I love the chaos the game provide, how the payout system for minigame is insane and the huge variety in the boards objectives and design! They totally did right to ditch most of the crazy stuff in that game but still, I love it for that nonetheless! Wario's Canyon in last place makes me a bit sad, it's one of my favorites! Pretty luck-based yet it's still very fun! And yeah Eternal Star is pretty meh but such a great final board concept! Engine Room have the potential to be amazing, until a star spawns on the top-left junction, then nobody's gonna get it and it becames Boo's farming party! I would have put Peach's Birthday Cake first tho! I think Mario's Rainbow Castle and Yoshi's Tropical Island are pretty bad and way too luck-based! The idea is great (MP6 did it well after all) but not the execution at all. This "Fan Vote" thing really get... Interesting results. But still, great video! I love seeing those weird results!
In my opinion, MP1'S coin losing minigame mechanic has fantastic potential, but because of the mixed reception to MP1, we won't see it on a normal board again. I would absolutely love it if they decided to make coin losing a part of a board. The sabotage and strategy that comes with making your team lose coins is tremendous.
As much as Bowser's Magma Mountain is a really frustrating board, you gotta admit the music absolutely slaps. It's probably tied with Yoshi's Tropical Island's as my second-favourite music piece in the game after Eternal Star's. I'm glad they used it in Super Mario Star Road for Fatal Flame Falls. I would honestly put Mario's Rainbow Castle's music just behind Yoshi's Tropical Island's, Eternal Star's, and Bowser's Magma Mountain's.
I think that mario party 1 is a pretty solid mario party game its better than 9 and ten all the handhelds and 8. This is just my perspective because my first game was 8 and while I do like it I find 1 to be more fun. My opinion
Given that 1-3 are the best in the series, Mario Party 1 is in fact actually one of the best in the series, and also has some of the best maps. 2 and 3 are better, naturally, but 1 is not bad compared to the lazy later entries in the series.
I feel like Eternal Star would've gotten more votes if not for the fact that most people never even knew it existed (such as myself for example when I was little, I only found out about it as an adult).
You are wrong. You do not lose a star at the Magma Mountain when you meet Bowser. You have a chance to lose one. But not 100% chance. That is in Eternal Star Board!
I would put peaches birthday cake as the worst board in Mario party one because it has a boring layout and it’s the only Mario party 1 board that contains an infinite.
This baffles me. Yoshi's island is easily one of the worst with the happening swapping Bowser and Toad regularly making it a practical coin flip as to whether you make it and you can try crossing the bridge but it's just as likely as not that they will swap again by the time you reach it. You are basically at the mercy of the board and while I don't mind some heavy luck elements, Yoshi's Island is annoying to no end, I'd say it's even worse than the bowser board, probably because of the illusion of strategy, making you think you can go to the other island at the cost of some of your coins so you can get the star but realistically your chances are roughly even on both islands.
My ranking (I think all of these are bottom 15 overall mario party boards and are garbage) 1. Yoshi's Tropical Island 2. DK's Jungle Adventure 3. Mario's Rainbow Castle 4. Bowser's Magma Mountain 5. Peach's Birthday Cake 6. Luigi's Engine Room 7. Wario's Battle Canyon 8. Eternal Star
Yeah, ya instantly lost my interest with that bad intro where you’re just doggin’ on the game that people probably enjoyed and clicked on your video because of it. Like, if it was a retrospective video, it absolutely makes sense, but in a video where fans voted on something within the game (boards, worlds, weapons, or whatever) it seems like a really bad move to start off the video acting like it’s a bad game, bro lol
How the hell did Peach’s Birthday Cake not be right after Wario’s Battle Cannon? Low scores in terms of stars. 4 random chances to go to toad or bowser. Seriously!! How?! ... ... WHERE IS MY ANTI-PEACH ALLEGIANCE FAM?!
