I will never understand why so many celebrities lie about buying homes when they actually rent… or why they feel the need to rent an over the top lavish house rather than buy a house they can afford. If you can afford $30,000/month rent you can afford a mortgage on a beautiful home.
Probably cause rent sounds like they don't have stable work to afford a house. LA is about how you look not who you really are. I think as an actor you get used to lying and having a mindset of always "being on" or acting a certain way to get support or jobs. They lie about being able to do thing like ride a horse for a role, than other abilities, lying about roles they've played, how big the shows they've done were, ppl they know, than to fans. A "fake it till you make it" approach.
Apparently, he wants a tasteless, opulent mansion that he can't get a mortgage for, due to reckless spending and unstable income. The whole video is a testament of a person who can't safe and spends every income he generates. Otherwise, he would easily maintain his lifestyle during months without big sponsorships and collect money for a regular house.
He could’ve completely afforded a home within his means, but that would mean he wouldn’t be able to show off. The level of arrogance to act like he bought this home, and then asking for a house warming gifts.
I'm pretty sure he still could have shown off even a more affordable home... But, yeah, the gift registry was a HUGE red flag 😅 . Also extremely tonedeaf during the height of the pandemic.
Right?! If he’s able to pay $30,000 in rent (except for he’s not paying his rent) per month, he could definitely have been able to afford a down payment for a nice house that’s not a multimillion dollar mansion.
that's what I was thinking,,, if he can afford live-in assistants, or even afford to rent a place like that in the first place, he can definitely afford to outright buy a smaller house
The fact that someone has the gall to not only show off the mansion they're living in, worth probably 10s of millions of dollars, but ALSO ask people to give him free mouthwash and toilet paper in the same video, is just pathetic! He's got a scary case of needing to humble himself and manage his money better. I get that appearances are worth something, and worth a LOT in his industry. But they are NOT everything. No matter how much it feels like it is.
It's actually pretty disgusting and tacky about 'owning' a $7 mil home and asking for gifts from fans, especially when the pandemic is still financially hitting so many normal people hard
They aren't even gifts! 🤣 Man put his grocery list on Amazon. Like, if I can buy my own damn cleaning products as a full time grad student, this alleged "millionaire" sure can. What a joke.
And the effects of the pandemic are still very apparent even now and will be for years to come... I just really want flex culture to die out in general.
and the fact that he put essentials on there like cat food... sir, are you starving your pets until some below the poverty line fan shells out $15 for you in exchange for a week's worth of food for themselves?
In all honesty, Nick has introduced me to the joys and wonders of so many things I never engaged with because I was like "I'm getting a strong vibe that I will object." I love his HSM videos, and Camp Rock 1+2 (both of which I refused to see at the time because I was a musical theatre kid, was aware of the film Camp and felt deeply insulted/spoken down to... I also had realised the depths of Disney's depravity by that point) and his videos on Gabbie Hanna and Dixie D'Amelio and oh god, the Pureflix nonsense.... by providing a lot of fair criticism mixed with hilarity and a good 12% dire bitchiness, not only do I get to properly appreciate the good and the bad of things I tend to avoid, I usually end up learning about ways to improve media, performance and my awareness of social issues. Nick's the best
the most ridiculous part is how explicitly he says he’s bought this stuff 😭 like hunnie you could’ve just said nothing and kept your plausible deniability
Toddrick asking his fans to buy him gifts, even outside of the Pandemic, is so tacky. You just "bought" a million dollar home and now you want strangers on the internet to buy your laundry detergent for you. When the class war starts, he's going to be one of the first to go.
It's weird that this is your stance considering he really didn't even buy the house. He clearly doesn't have money for it. It makes sense that he's begging for tide pods. You would think the problem would be the fact that he conned a home-owner knowing he couldn't afford it...
I was laying on my fucking back and drinking water and you said "the gays are bashing back" and water came out my nose like an unwanted water feature in Toddrick's rented home.
@@NickDiRamioTV dammit, I thought queer people laughed by saying asfhrscvbnhcxrsksk? Are we saying "bahaha" now like an old timey British villain? I can't keep up.
I’m so glad you did this. I can’t even with Toddrick. Sick that he has all these expensive items but won’t sell them to pay people back or pay his rent
You're flexing a 7 million dollar house you just "bought," why on earth would anyone wanna buy you anything?? If anything, it seems like you should be buying stuff for us.
If attending Todrick's $7m house warming party doesn't net me a decent gift bag I'm not showing up Probably why he's not having a party lol, he can't afford it
As a black queer person I really idolized Todrick until I started hearing shady shit about him. This is why you never idolize anyone, you’ll always be disappointed in the end 😩 but I’d rather know who I’m really supporting at the end of the day. He’s so talented too so that sucks, weirdly enough your videos are helping me be a little less sad about it all at least.
I felt really torn when I watched Straight Outta Oz and saw the part about him being s*xually harassed (possibly assaulted?) by his agent. On the one side that was a horrible thing to have happened to him, but on the other...why did he feel the need to portray the agent as a spicy sex-crazed Latina screaming "Ay Papi?!" That's literally a stereotype that's been historically used to excuse the abuse of Latinas, just as the Jezebel stereotype has been used against Black women. The idea is that we're all promiscuous/sexual, thus we're always "asking" to be r*ped. It felt creepy and wrong that he was now using that to present a predatory Latina. Being abused in that way should not give someone permission to hurt a whole people. Especially disappointing from a fellow POC. It made me so angry. But at the time I figured it was his way of trying to cope with what happened, and sometimes folks stumble and not everyone knows about that hurtful history. But now with all the stuff I've learned from Nick, I can't ever go back to seeing him as anything but a self-centered d-bag who cheats people. 😥 On a happier note! If you'd like another Black queer person to follow, I'd check out Khadija Mbowe if you haven't already. They're absolutely stunningly wonderful! Also Princess Weekes and Veridis Joe, depending on what kinda content you like. Also TeeNoir and ForHarriet, though they're not queer, afaik. I hope you have a gorgeous day!
Preach. We're coming for you, Mickey. Whether or not you change the face of copyright law for *checks watch* the millionth time, WE ARE COMING FOR YOU.
Definitely. It's nasty how monopolized it all is while they bought out the production that made the movie robots and had it fall apart. Star wars is also such a mess, etc. It's not right.
@@xryxix One of my biggest news memories, as a child in the 90's, was the government going after Microsoft for being a monopoly. Fast Forward a few decades, and you have like 10 companies that own everything. Every year a giant corporation buys another competitor.
@@Bworms1980 And now Elon Musk is trying to buy Twitter to amass even more fortune, he’s already on track to become the world’s first trillionaire. This shit has gone too far.
@@Bworms1980 I agree with you. BUT the loophole they use is that they're buying out the companies and competition. While Microsoft was forcing other companies to buy their products.
For the kinky boots. He could just use 2 tall water bottles to stand them up. If it's something special to him, he could easily fix it, instead of shoving them like carryon luggage
@@SaintShion He's been accused of ripping people off and not following thru with things for well over a decade now. I honestly thought some of that old stuff was just mistakes he made because he was young. And I still think that's probably true, but it's just incredibly disappointing that he has apparently learned nothing.
He ripped off my dance studio, probably multiple across the country, by having us pay to audition for him for a show he was doing, told those of us who made the cut, and then he left and we never heard anything ever again
True. As I said to friends on Facebook when this first came out, when you get your first home it's always a big deal no matter what that first home looks like or no matter how cheaper expensive it was so had he had bought himself a rent-to-own condo even or townhome and put up a big video announcing it in the how happy he was about it I would have been super proud for him then as well. Not everybody can own their own home, regardless of the tax bracket.
"If those are your prized possessions why are they hastily shoved into in a glass case like Annabelle?" I literally died when I heard this line! Great video as aways!
When I first saw the clip of Toddrick showing off his 'dream house' that he'd 'bought' in 2021 I didn't believe he owned it for a second. Him rubbing people's faces in a vile display of ostentation then asking total strangers to buy him lots of things in a pandemic that had seen people lose loved ones, live in a climate of fear, financially struggle and become unemployed as businesses folded was both thoughtless and frankly disgusting! This clip was hilarious! Well done, Nick!!!
$12000-15000 a month, on a 15 year mortgage, with a 20% down payment - which someone like Todrick should theoretically be able to afford - will be enough for a $2.5 million+ house. Even in a city like Los Angeles, that’s not bad at all. But then, as others pointed out, he wouldn’t be able to brag on the Internet like this. It’s honestly so stupid…
This is so embarrassing for him. I agree with you though- we have to also look at the culture that brought us to this point. Elevating people who can afford "stuff" is sad and ultimately meaningless. Hustle culture is a huge part of this. Living within your means isn't fun to be honest, but at the end of the day it's less stressful than being publicly sued and exposed because you got yourself in over your head. Keep up the great videos, Nick!
Exactly. Don't get me wrong, he seems like a douche. But he's a *symptom* of what's wrong with Hollywood, he's hardly the first person to get stuck in this cycle. Insecure people who are attracted to fame and glamor go into the industry, realize it's actually an extremely exploitative industry that has really uneven pay. Someone like Jennifer lawrence can make millions of dollars from a single project, but the majority of the supporting talent and crew members will get paid a pittance for the local cost of living (especially when you take into account the fact they don't get paid a consistent biweekly amount like most of us, it can often seem like they get paid really well per project, but then you have to account for how many projects they can actually do a year). But they can't ADMIT they're getting ripped off, cause that would mean admitting "inferiority"/vulnerability. That they aren't the top dog, and the industry *doesn't* think they're that important and pays them accordingly. They internalize this idea that the reason they aren't rich is because of personal failings, so they constantly try to project their idealized self. It's a lot like how a lot of working class Republicans are deeply insecure about their wages and lack of buying power, but they straight up *won't* admit that, so they have to reframe everything as "the immigrants are stealing jobs" and stuff, because it's easier than admitting that you are getting left behind in an increasingly "winner takes all" economy.
he can 100% buy a house, he just chooses not to for whatever reason. especially if he's in sherman oaks. like bby you're in the valley, not way up in the hills of malibu or something. and its doubly frustrating because there are formerly black areas of LA that have been gentrified to hell and back. it would be nice to see more wealthy black folks taking those areas back instead of trying to grandstand among the white elite.
@@milannoelle1576 He can totally buy a house he just chooses to live above his means and claim he bought this house. If he had bought a nicely put together Little Shack and made a video of how proud he is of a gay black man to finally own his own house I would have been just as proud for him because your first house is a big deal, it hardly matters what your first house looks like it's always a big deal.
From an $800 printer to $83 candles to Amazon birthday gift cards, you can not only buy stuff for Toddrick but you can also be responsible for the Amazon birthday gift cards he gives out to his friends 😂
Thank you for making this video… I cannot stand celebs or influencers who’ve definitely made tons of money, blew thru and then have the nerve to make an Amazon wishlist distributed to their fans via a video… not only that but to find out everything he said was a lie makes me embarrassed for him. There was nothing wrong with being honest and saying it’s rented! Who cares?! I don’t trust anyone who lies about dumb insignificant stuff.
People like that are compulsive. I actually wonder if they can’t help it. My bf is like that. Like the other day he told his dad that he was getting me shampoo at Walmart. We were going to get deodorant…like why
Renting a huge mansion like that is still an impressive amount of money, it's not like admitting you don't own it outright would make fans think "oh you're actually POOR". The Amazon wishlist having so many regular household items is just sad. I could understand if his wishlist had stuff like books and CDs he wanted, but you can't pretend to be wealthy but then you're asking other people to buy laundry soap for you.
OMG I acted in a pilot with Garrett, such a sweet heart. He was one of James Franco’s accusers, that hollywood is pretending didn’t assault actors he directed.
Just thinking about the stress of trying to maintain a lie like this is making me break out. I mean, people are *going* to find out. It's not that hard to with the internet and public info, haha.
YEARS AND YEAR ago toddrick hall came to my dance studio in Ohio and we all paid to audition for him for a musical he was a part of/“producing” as a twist on wizard of oz and then we never heard anything about it ever again after he posted who got what roles/parts in our studio. Basically just stole from a bunch of elementary and high school students
@@shawnalynn5198 yes!!! I’ve never seen anyone really talk about it either! We were all just kinda like “Ope 👀 aight then”. I’m always shook when bigger celebrities or RU-vidrs (like Colleen Ballinger, for example when she was in Waitress) talk so highly of him! He must be a nice person on a personal level? Idk 🤷🏻♀️
I remember yeaaaaars ago when I first discovered Todrick on here. Scrolling through the comments there were posts about him doing this. I remember googling and finding out about this AND the American Idol scam he did. I will never forget it and that's why I've never supported his content despite him being adjacent to other RU-vidrs I liked. I'm shocked he still has a career after scamming so many people.
Omg there was an episode of American Dad where the family went from town to town selling tickets and creating buzz for a STOMP show, only to bounce with all the money 😂 It’s giving me the same vibes.
@@lalalolita I don't think he's that good tbh. A lot of the fandom dislikes him precisely because his choreo is so blah and that he doesn't give any actual constructive criticism to the queens during rehearsals. He's by far the worst choreographer the show has worked with.
You know whats funny, in his most popular song he sings " ... But I don't work for free and thats the tea hunty". I guess his dancers and landlords can work for free
i have had some friends on broadway who’ve mentioned to me that when todrick was in kinky boots, he was hell on earth to work with. apparently he would call out of the show just to watch his swings and understudies go on in his place to compare himself and make fun of them.
Definitely. When he first posted it I went onto Amazon and had to look. As soon as I saw that it was just cheap college my first apartment away housewarming type things he was asking for something didn't feel right and so I didn't do any purchasing just took a look at it.
@@dougdimmadome9241 I'm not the person that called you on what you said. I'm an innocent bystander, just giving you another perspective to consider. As a person just basically walking by, I will tell you again, it doesn't come off as a joke. Your snarky attitude back to me, as if it's somehow MY deficiency in the perception department isn't really fair honestly. Jokes are often FUNNY. This wasn't, nor did your tone convey sarcasm or dry wit.
Todrick literally just can't buy a pool noodle and cut it in half for his boots? Smh Also, SUPER bold of him to feature Disney IP in his merch, as Disney is notorious for going after copyright infringement (unless you're the cops, lol!)
I love all your content, and will watch it all, but I've really enjoyed these house tour videos. As a struggling parent, its crazy to see someone living in a house thats like 10x the size of mine and have no kids, asking for things like laundry detergent.
I’ve been one of Todrick’s biggest fans and even met him in person but for the past couple years I’ve heard all these bad things coming up and it was surprising to see all these receipts 😩 really sucks but I can’t respect what he’s done
Honestly I'm more scandalized by the 200 small portion disposable containers. Like really? $7m house and you don't have a dishwasher? Some Rubbermaids go a long way
WHY?!?! He has earned enough to never have to work again. I'd budget to live off $75,000 a year with an occasional splurge, and be more than satisfied with my Lexus and 2 bedroom condo. . . He has reached a point where he can make art for its own sake but he threw away financial security to impress materialistic f_cks.
Because at some point impressing materialistic people is what will keep you afloat. Socialites don't spend time showing off for the middle class, they do it so they can keep a place where they are. That's just how life works.
It’s so stressful, my boss got it and was given five days to get over it. He’s back and doesn’t wear a mask so I’m always wiping the desk, computer, and cash register, along with wearing my mask.

So pumped I'm early!!!! My boyfriend and I just bought a home in Eastern KY and I'm so excited to personalize it and make it feel like home. It isn't huge or absurdly expensive (though it's still expensive). We obviously have money left over to customize the home and make repairs. We each used 75-80% of our savings for the down payment, closing, insurance etc. Wild to me that he's paying more than the average down-payment in Kentucky EVERY MONTH. I have such a hard time understanding why a single person who lives alone would ever want or need a home this big and wildly impractical.
I just bought my own home recently as a single person and it's a 2 bedroom apartment and quite spacious but I honestly have no clue what I would even put it in never mind something this big. This is crazy
@@tessy28 yeah our home is pretty small but still we only have 1 couch, 1 chair and a bed as furniture and people keep offering to help us move and its like... bro we don't have that much stuff lol idek what I would do with a huge home
The fact that he actually asked foe shit like dish soap and garbage bags speaks volume. I feel sad that he felt that he had to do this instead of feeling comfortable enough to be open and honest..
Yeah really weird because I genuinely don't think he does drink. Maybe his internet "friends" need to buy him wine so he can host parties with his actual friends. 😆 Honestly, that wish list mess is absolutely shameless.
Thank you for highlighting the emphasis on material gain that, in my opinion, has taken over a lot of the mainstream gay media. Specifically Trixie Mattel is a good example. At first I didn't really notice but over the years she's just become this over the top capitalist and this ongoing celebration of competition, consumerism and wealth. Drag Race US in general has been sending the same message. What happened to community, philanthropy, creation and creativity?
Drag is such an interesting community, it was historically underserved and underrepresented, and it suddenly became very mainstream and a huge business. I think it makes sense that people/performers that have struggled kinda lose their way when they start getting wealthy. Also in general the entertainment industry is a shitshow. You can tell with more seasoned Queens that were already used to success and the industry, that they were able to "stay the same", while Queens that didn't, got lost into the fame and lifestyle. Milk is a good example too.
“FULLY CLOTHED” lol. Whose fully clothed in a hot tube? Makes it weirder than what he said. I love how this story built. Not paying workers to him not paying his rent while bragging about his extravagant home.
12:33 I agree with you Nick, the only themed bed I ever wanted was a racecar bed as a child. I'm an adult and now I want a bed that is queen sized (my bedroom is too small for a bed that size)
Idk why people rent houses for $20k/month that they can't afford. Purchase a $1M home and the MORTGAGE would be "only" $5K...thats a lot less than $20K.
this is what I don't get about stuff like this. if I could afford to rent for 20k a month I would just buy a house. wouldn't be as fancy but it would be mine
Like, girl, BUY A CHEAPER PROPERTY!!! Don't rent a giant mansion in Sherman Oaks for $30,000/month. Like, $30,000 on RENT is such a waste! Get a mortgage! Buy something outright! If you could actually afford $30,000, pay it toward a mortgage. Own LA real estate!
The add in of your own time keeping bar on your own add was perfect, It actually made me watch the whole thing, well listen, I was watching the white bar, but I loved that addition.
The way celebs get robbed in Hollywood. I would have never felt comfortable showing all my luxury and valuables. Like we know he'll be on tour soon.. I know bc I'm seeing Todrick in Charlotte 4/23
I have a piano that I can't play. It was my grandmother's and she gave it to me, so I guess it makes sense that I have it. Except, come to think of it, my grandma didn't know how to play either. What WAS she doing with that thing? 🧐😆 Also $30,000 per month?! 😭
Sorry but I love your facial structure and jawline. Literally the perfect face, makes me want to do a bunch of fancy line ups and designs in your face. Brows too, im a fan
People are still out here supporting Toddrick?? Asking fans to buy you stuff for your house sounds so tacky acting like he's friends with his fans. I feel like if you meet him in person he would be so judgy and mean
lmao I love that I can speak to buying a house with a wine cellar you don't want or need bc my parents did... definitely led to them buying more wine than they needed but it's mostly a glorified closet, since its presence took out the garage and the storage that would have had ... Not terrible, but would not recommend
Haha, I like that he bragged about the Marshall refrigerator like it's an exclusive custom piece. I got one of those for my shitty basement room for my 18th birthday, it was like 400 dollars.
I never thought it wasn't his when I saw the video. I'm so trusting lol, especially with home tours. A house is BIG, you can't just lie about it and get away with it so I'd assume no one would lie about it... Rent on such a huge house must be expensive, wouldn't it be better just to buy it?
I unfollowed him because of this video after he showed off "his" house and then asked for wine from fans to celebrate in a house party they would NEVER be invited to. That just made me feel sick
Watching this I actually feel really bad for him. The fact that he feels the need to fit in with celebrities/influencers so bad just shows how insecure he is. And like Nick said, him having a themed bed is a bit childish, which seems like he might be some form of regressing (?), idk I’m not a psychologist. I can just picture one of his pets messing up a part of the house and him having a meltdown over it. I hope he gets the help that he needs so he can stop feeling the need to be like this.
In my experience there can be a registry or a list you can get something from when going to a housewarming party but this is generally for when the person moves out for the first time. Like when I moved out I got a set of cups and plates from my mum that I still use. But in this case, it's him being supposedly rich and asking stuff from his followers that feels icky.
