This is the FULL, uncut (mostly) original version of a three part series called “Every Zelda Main & Title Theme 1986-2023.” It’s a massive compilation of music breakdowns from every main (plug in console) Zelda ever. My goal was to go through each title and main theme from 0previous Zelda games as Tears of the Kingdom released, and take a listen to the new Main Theme. At the time of recording, the full main theme was not even released. But this couldn’t wait!

Zelda: Twilight Princess (GC/Wii)
Zelda: Skyward Sword (WiiU)
Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch)
Several clips were edited out for the final versions above, so this full length unedited version contains more details, more music, more chilling with me.
Some games don’t have a true “main theme,” and instead of just doing Hyrule Field Theme for every game, I chose to cover some I consider to be a sort of “main theme.” I also already covered TOTK in a separate video, so I didn’t really stop throughout that last one.

The orginal theme was made in 1 night by Koji Kondo thank Hylia he did because it would have been Bolero by Matice Ravel. Like could you imagine the Legend of Zelda without its signature theme.

A Link to the Past is called Triforce of the Gods in Japan so it makes total sense that it’s theme would play during the creation of the Triforce

I think it could be interesting to look at how the Clock Town Theme evolves as the days pass in-game and the moon comes closer to crashing on Clock Town. The three days each have different themes playing, with the theme during the last 6 hours obviously being replaced with the ominous-sounding "Final Hours".

Wind waker's music gives me goosebumps. One of the best in the series musically as far as I am concerned, but they do it by building on the past. Love it.

Nice! Until I have a rig that makes it more sustainable adding midi on the bottom, feel free to flip your phone or iPad (or computer 😆) upside down so you can see my hands on the keys. Hopefully some time soon I can upgrade and make the MIDI data a regular part of the videos like I did in my first 2-3. It just took a lot longer. I only made 3 videos in my first 60 days lol. Now it’s 2 a week until I can’t manage that level or production.

Thank you for posting this! I was 8 when the original Zelda was released in NA, and hearing that music immediately took me back. I got surprisingly emotional hearing it, as it reminded me of a simpler more innocent time, where diving into this game meant adventure, surprise, delight, and being the hero of the story. TOTK SPOILER WARNING IF YOU HAVENT BEATEN THE STORY: At the end of the game, there’s a very subtle nod to the sages theme from OoT when they say goodbye to Mineru. I haven’t seen anyone else really talk about it yet so I’d love to see your take on it!

Skyward Sword was released at the end of the original Wii’s lifecycle, and Breath of the Wild was meant for the Wii U but it got ported to switch as a launch title, just some fun facts :)

Awesome, congrats on 10k! I have one question for you: when do you think we'll be getting the video on the Rito area of TotK? I've been looking forward to that since you teased it!

Hey Moldomre! So short answer probably like 3 weeks, maybe 4. A couple things at play. One is the last two weekends I wasn’t able to film, but I did have footage of the House Theme and DC that needed to be edited, along with the part 3 and DC of Every Title Theme. Another is that I’m still compiling examples to make sure I don’t regret missing anything. Like with the House theme, there was a sick Hyrule Warriors version I had never heard and REALLY wished I could have put into the Evolution video. Another is that Rito area video is probably going to be a 2 hour filming session. And the video will be over 100GB 🤣 I just resolved some technical difficulties on my iPad (yes I don’t even have a computer 🤣) so now it’s at least possible, I just need a long evening to prepare and film it. And lastly, That’s a LOT of content wasted if I just film it super long and trim it to a 15 min version and a 1.5 hour version. So I’m trying to be prudent to maximize views for the amount of time and effort it takes. So I think I’m going to start with covering the themes related, like Rito Village Day and Night, Revali’s Theme, etc. Then the full video will hopefully contain every possible recognizable reference in the Wind phases and Boss phases. There’s a lot to it. It’s one of those quality vs quantity excisions, plus life happening and not being a full time content creator. 2 jobs and a family, this is my passion project that just blew up 😅 Very grateful, but gotta keep priorities in order and try to maximize my time so I can keep engaging with viewers and producing 1-2 videos a week. The one thing I wished for, was for you to fix the clipping issue on your piano, which sounds quite nasty at times. But apart from the clipping issue great video!

@@ZeldaMusicTheory Im not an expert on this at all, but while recording you should check that the sound from the piano doesn't exceed the 0dB mark. So for that you'd probably just have to adjust the input level or gain accordingly

I might be able to apply that. I boosted everything after and I think that made this video worse than my others. I think I’m actually using the wrong type of mic because it is intended for my lips to be basically touching. So I boost it later. But the keyboard I’m not sure why it is clipping.

Twilight princess does indeed have a main theme. The Hyrule field theme. It makes up the foundation for Midnas Lament and also has an awesome rendition for the credits. The credit music is fantastic. It'd be awesome to see that picked apart

Oh I’ll have to listen to the credits! And yeah I think you’re probably right, but went with Midna’s Lament since they are basically the same. Same chords, same melody, just slight differences in the B section in Hyrule Field theme, and instrumentation. Both amazing.

You know, that section of the Ocarina of Time theme actually reminds me of a different piece from Kingdom Hearts: Teamwork, from Kingdom Hearts 2, which has in the B section exactly the same chord progression.

1:17:59 - I might be wrong, but are the first three notes here the same as the melody that plays when day breaks in Ocarina and Majora? That would be a nice symbolic easter egg if so :)

That’s a good suggestion! Different notes (51 up an octave 1 is main theme BOTW)… (5 b3 up an octave 8 is Sun’s Song, which starts the day)… so that’s a cool Easter egg, that the Suns Song is used to start the day in OOT. Pretty sweet.

So I considered it, but this wasn’t intended to be “Every Overworld Theme.” Mostly the “Main Theme” is the same as the overworld theme, but 8BitMusicTheory has already done an excellent synopsis of every overworld theme, and most are almost identical. I want the theme that captures the emotion and mood of the entire game. Midna’s theme, Zelda’s Lullaby, maybe for Wind Waker it’s Aryll’s Theme. Anyway that’s my reasoning, but you’re not wrong, Hyrule Field theme might be the closest we get to a main theme.

Hahaha no. I did buy it though, so I can play in the future (maybe record it, who knows). It’s ironic, the start of the channel was pretty much the end of my playing video games. I’ve played like 50-60 hours of TOTK and like 5 hours of all other games the last 12 months. But that’s because every time I get an hour free I’m editing. 😬

That'd be a great video especially considering the harp is cool. And a major part of story and gameplay. Plus Demise!!! He's cool as heck.. Something to think about? 🤷

I love your videos dude, but your audio quality is not great, it distorts when listening to you play the piano, playing other sounds or a constant static noise and I cant like the video because of that. Maybe something to address in the future?
