I owned a collision repair shop for 36 years. My daughter was interested at 14 so I let her work after school until she graduated. You so remind me of her and that's rare I see a female willing to do that sort challenge. Proud of the end result on your Forester. Way to go girl. KC

Hey Samantha, glad to hear you’re doing well and you didn’t get hurt in the wreck. You may want to keep an eye on the hitch. After metal is bent and then bent back it can become fatigued and will have a weak spot and that could lead to failure when pulling heavy loads. Great job on the repairs! Be safe! Ron

Great job on straightening the hit & run damage,Sam. With all the work you did on your car before it got hit and the lack of rust in the undercarriage it was smart to buy it back from your insurance company and fix it yourself. The surface area looks like new also. It took hard work to install the new mufflers and doubly so by yourself. Nice to see your Dad pitch in once again as well.👍👍👍👍👌🔧

re: 26:33 I had an old Dodge Neon that would get water in the trunk. The water would enter through an ill fitting gasket on a tail light bucket. I would have never found out, except for having to change the tail light assembly and seeing the dirt stain on the gasket where the water flowed. It was very satisfying to finally solve that one.

Hi Sam, you did a great job on the car /spare tire well. I was going to suggest playing a little heat on those creases before pulling in them. Great job girl! Much love from Naples Florida. ❤❤
@nickmaclachlan5178

Not such a good idea on thin sheet as it can harden the metal and cause it to be brittle and crack afterwards. Body shops don't use heat for this very good reason.

Great job Sam! In my younger days I would buy totals fix them and resell them. Used trees many times to pull things out. Porta Power, hydraulic jacks, chains were all my friends. That Sub was too solid to let it go. Glad to see you take on this repair, knew you could do it.

Surely, if you got a bodyshop to mount your car on a frame and meticulously pull various parts of the frame and body with chain and clamps, they could reform your cars shape and use a portapower kit on the spare wheel tub You are an extremely resourceful and strong young lady. never afraid to try and impeccable problem solving

Haven't read early comments but most of the cost of the replacement exhaust is in the cat converter, conversely your takeoff converter should be good for $300-600 as a guess at a junk yard. Hope you didn't throw it away. Further research suggests cat converter scrap value more likely in $50-100 range.

Your car has a unibody, and because the hitch was fastened to the frame part the trailer hitch was responsible for the damage. It takes a frame machine to pull out the damage. The damage has carried further to the front of the car more than you think. I am a body man with 55 years of experience .GOOD luck. Watch the back tires for wear, and have someone follow you down the road to see if your car is tracking straight. If it seems to be going sideways that means the frame part is bent badly.

But you are the brightest star on this channel! All the best!

back tape any holes from under car with masking tape... spray with rattle can trunk spatter spray paint....then use Auto body Seam Sealer in a tube and apply on inner side of floor pan....(LEAVE MASKING TAPE ON TILL ALL DRY TO STOP SEAM SEALER FROM OZZING OUT) EXCELLENT FOR NOT LETTING WATER IN.

I am curious about road legality and insurance after your insurance company said the car was a write off. Here in the Netherlands, if you car is considered a write off you need to get the car examined and approved by an authorised agent before an insurance company will insure it and that is required before it is again road legal. Is that a similar process in the US?

Wow! Seriously, great work. I bought a 2005 Honda CR-V that had been totaled. It had been rear ended and a mechanic fixed it. I bought it from him. He also did a great job but some of the rear "seams" leak dust and some exhaust into the car. I've worked on it some and it is much better. Note: I used my hands as hammers for many years and as I've aged I've had two surgeries on each of them!
