Removing and replacing a client's main drain line. Everything is pitched backwards causing the client to have to deal with constant blockages.

Awesome stuff Sam! As a RN since 1975 and a DIY guy I’ve always hated plumbing. As a nurse please consider wearing disposable gloves when working with human waste! At least avoid touching your eyes and face. I’m old enough to be your grandfather but admire your determination to learn the trades. Your mentor is fantastic! Patient knowledgeable and a good teacher! Keep ‘em coming!

Such a joy to see instructor and learner working so well together and have some fun along the way. Sam: not sure if you an apprentice or a journeyman so just called you a learner. Looking forward to next one.

What a blessing to work for someone so wise and patient who not only does carefully considered work, but also is willing to explain to you the "why" behind the "what" of the things he has you doing. It makes my heart happy to watch you two work together!

Highly recommend nitrile gloves when working with waste lines. Just get into the habit. One little scrape or cut can turn into a nasty infection. Not necessary if working with supply lines. Take note of the neat arrangement of the final product on this job. That is what professional, caring work looks like. Good standard to follow!

Historic homes like this are disappearing fast in Halifax in favor of concrete & glass boxes. Thanks for bringing us into the basement infrastructure and showing how the plumbing mess was cleaned up. Cast iron water lines are still being dug up here due to rusting out but they did the job for hundreds of years. Always interesting the places that you take us, Sam, and I learn something from each video you make. 👍👍👍🛠🛠🛠❤

Good Job Sam, but just a little correction: At 37:36 Sam when you were cutting those copper pipes, you had the pipe pressed all the way into the base of the cutter and not resting on the two little spindles. That means its normally harder to cut the pipe and you can often run the cutter up the pipe causing a spiral score mark on the pipe before cutting through it. Make sure the pipe is sitting on the 2 spindles before you start to cut as the cut off disc is located opposite and in the centre of these 2. Check out what I was saying on a small off cut of pipe before cutting another one and you'll find it much easier!
@garyseed6530
@garyseed6530 Год назад
Hi Sam - can I add to the above comment. When you use tighten the cutter every 2 or 3 turns, try not to tighten at the same point as you can create a small flat spot in the copper. An old refrigeration engineers tip! It's great to see someone young interested in learning a hands on trade (in your case multiple trades)- see it through as you will never be out of work. Good luck!

Before I retired, I used to erect steel frames. One particular job involved building over an existing, working factory. One of the foundation holes had a temporary waste from the ladies toilet running through it, and we had to take it apart to drop our column in. Unfortunately one of the office girls didn't get the memo, about not using the loo. Having had a Richard the third drop on his foot, my mate was straight into the office. A very red face told him who the previous owner was.

What an amazing house. Working on properties like that along side a knowledgeable veteran will give you such a wide exposure to methods and tools from generations past, forgotten by many but kept alive by the best. My sister and I grew up working on places similar to this. it was always a different old house with a different and challenging problem. This video took me back to those days. Your work ethic, knowledge and persistence in wanting to learn in the trades are rare and valuable traits these days and will never let you down. Its a long road full of surprises and challenges but one day you will be the boss, calling the shots and passing your experience and knowledge to the next worthy apprentice. I cant help but share with you how strikingly similar your experience is with my sisters own. She has now been in Plumbing and HVAC for over 20 years and has loved every bit of it.
