It's interesting how frequently book loving middle schoolers turn into high schoolers who don't read much. Props to you for getting back into it!

Stargirl is honestly such a beautiful book...when I was struggling with trying to fit in, it taught me to really embrace myself ✨

hi charley! i just wanted to say i looooove the vibe of your videos. it feels like....waking up from a sleepover with a friend over the weekend and hanging out the next morning. it's so chill, cozy, and relaxed, your videos always put me at ease and help me appreciate the softer things in this world. i've also been getting back into reading this past year and am so excited to read your recommendations! hope you have a good day~

as a brazilian viewer i would like to tell you: don't feel pressured to like the alchemist or any of paulo coelho's books because they ARE very mediocre and have some plagiarism going on lol but i would love to recommend you to read machado de assis or guimaraes rosa. they're two very important and actually good brazilian authors :)) happy 2021 charley, love u!

I would recommend The marrow thieves by Cherie Dimaline, she is indigenous like me and this book is about a world destroyed by climate change and indigenous people of North America are being hunted for their bone marrow, which gives non-indigenous people the ability to dream. Very interesting

I read stargirl when I was maybe 13? I recommend it to children before they move up to secondary school or around that time (10-13) its a really interesting age because its the time they are moving away from being a child, and I think its really important that during that time they are sure of who they are. I know i struggled with what was socially acceptable now I was in secondary school compared to what was acceptable in primary school when really it had only been a matter of weeks. There is a lot of pressure for children to grow up and fit in when they get to secondary school.

I love your book content! I'm a literature major right now, and as much as I love getting to read the books I do for class I am so, so excited to be able to just READ and not have to worry about how fast, assignments, papers, etc.

I LOVE the way you talk about books! this video and the one about your fav books you read for school make me want to read so much more and i like that you rate the books with your personal enjoyement in mind rather than in like a really analytical and professional way!!! Hope you had a nice start into the new year

i love this video so much!! i actually read the howl’s moving castle book this year too and definitely found it to be so different than the film!! sophie and howl’s dynamic was more entertaining to me and i actually ended up enjoying how the characters were portrayed in the book much more than the movie! i really loved it, but i definitely understand why it wouldn’t be your favorite, the movie and book vibes are really so unexpectedly different! :)

yes I so understand this! I should have def let go of my movie Howl expectations. I saw a post once that movie howl is how book howl would write himself and I find it HYSTERICAL

Yay! I’m so happy to find you. These reviews were prodigious. Beautifully done. I don’t completely agree (which makes me happy) but can’t wait for more. I’m a total middle school book lover, but wildwood let me down. I read it years ago and have never finished the series because I just didn’t care.

I loved all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books growing up. The nature and the lifestyle helped me to slow down and enjoy the littlest tasks. I haven't reread them in a while so I will have to give them a reread to see the unfortunately racist stuff. :( Idk if you would be interested but I live near the Ozarks in Missouri and LIW's house is here that you can tour and there is a whole festival for her in the fall.

You make me REALLY want to read Shakespeare!!! In what order would you recommend me to read some of the plays from easy to hard? I’m not that good/intellectual when it comes to literature so I’d like to start off a bit easier :)

I personally LOVE midsummer nights dream! Its widely read in 8th grade (14 years old or so) and I definitely recommend reading with cliff notes / annotations and listening with an audio book as you read!

this makes me want to get into reading more. I started listening to non-fiction audiobooks and I've been loving it. I finished listening to Sitting Pretty by Rebekah Taussig and Disability Visibility edited by Alice Wong and highly recommend both if you are interested in disability non-fiction. Next on my list is An Indigenous Peoples' History of the United States :)
