@@c.6alex I've run into the same issue. Enclosures are either not the size I'm looking for or way too expensive. I have a plan to upgrade my leo to a 4 ft enclosure at some point, and I've decided to build it myself when I have the time and space to.

Yeah I feel it's been a while since I've done a video on my Crested Gecko. A lot of my stuff is natural things like wood, cork, plants, etc, but I'll see what I can do :)

same. she was only hesitant about it cuz we go on vacations , but i told my mother about people who come over to your house and give your reptile food, clean the terrarium..... and after that she said yes. btw, i pay for everything XD. its worth though

I have been doing research for about 2 months now as I plan on getting my first leopard gecko next month and your channel has been an INCREDIBLE source. I use exactly the same as you arcadia and habistat as like you said they are just great products I've owed leopard geckos for over 30 years and you like what you like and I find products from these companies very trustworthy and great value for money 👍🏻👍🏻 great info video I absolutely love your videos plz can you do 1 on crested geckos 👍🏻👍🏻

@@leopardgeckotalk even back then I never once used sand its just common sence at the end of the day that sand is an easily swallowed product and obviously is going to cause damage so hence dont use sand no matter what ever and my oldest gecko was nearly 22 when he passed away gizmo but I've kept his name going as I currently own a female called gizzy lol

For all my dudes in America I really suggest getting a tank conversion kit. I have a 20 gallon tank with a mesh lid top and I absolutely hate it. What I would recommend is tilting it on its side where the top of the tank would be facing you adding tracks right where the lip is and add acrylic or glass panel doors. Where as you would have sliding glass doors like a Vivarium but not really because it’s all glass. And The air circulation can be made with a holes all along the glass panel doors

To fix them being off time just get a plug in with several outlet plugs and plug it in the timer and everything plugged in will turn on/off all at the same time

I love Arcadia's light and heat products! I use the shade dweller kit and the DHP in my leo's bioactive. I also plan to get one of those new jungle dawn led bars to replace the aquarium led lights I'm using. I just wish that Arcadia would release longer versions of the shadedweller kit because I want to build a 4ft enclosure for my leo, and the uvb wouldn't be as effective.

Is it a 4ft long or 4ft deep tank? I wouldn't worry if its long, a light and shaded area is actually quite ideal :) I think in diegos tank the UV will be most potent over the one side of his tank, and the other will be shaded. I've tried the LED bar with the new tank and wow it's powerful, illuminates the whole tank, really good :)

i highly doubt you’ll reply to this since this comment was so long ago, but i just got a leo myself and i was wondering, do you use anything else to emit heat other than the DHP? im not sure how i should go about heating her tank. i’ve heard a heat mat and a ceramic heater work, then i’ve heard just a ceramic heater, then i’ve heard just a DHP so im super confused as to what to do. thank you!!

We use a smart plug for our lighting. And, then it is on for 12 hours a day because it's in a dark room. And a wyze camera in her tank, so it's easy to double check when it's on and off.

For timers I switched to wifi extension lead then set times for each socket on an app. Cheaper, easier, tidier!

This was a very informative video and I appreciate the work put into it. For those in US concerned about dimmable/pulse proportional thermostats for their deep heat projector, it seems that exo terra has a 600 watt thermostat that is pulse proportional/dimmable (as specified on their package). The others seem to be on/off in regards to retail store brands like the other exo terra thermostat models, zilla, zoomed,etc.

@@leopardgeckotalk Glad to help. Proper equipment is important for their reptiles. I will note that the US is a bit behind in reptile products compared to the UK. Generally, the best retail reptile brands the US has is Zoo Med, Zilla, and Exo Terra for tech. Up until recently, those brands were really the only major brands the US had. However, since Arcadia is starting to show up online for the US it is a definite plus and upgrade. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on Leopard Geckos and reptiles. I really appreciate it. :)

I just got a leopard gecko today from a previous owner, it had sand. A large water bowl, a single hide, and one large heat lamp set to just 3 hours from 5am. This is gonna help so much on my haul today to fix all of it. Thank you. Also if anyone has suggestions pls let me know

for the UV bulbs I use an Alexa smart timer so I can use the Alexa app to change the time for summer and winter and for £10 for a pack of two

There’s no need for a heat mat. The lamps should be over the warm side to create a temperature gradient.

I have a question do you have to buy anything for the cool side and if you do please tell what and what light do you recommend I use and I’m not getting the type of tank you have the one I’m getting is a 30 gallon tank but I’m scared what light to pick so I don’t damage it’s eyes and don’t worry I’m not putting the baby in the tank when I get it I’m getting a smaller tank then as it gets big enough I will put it in the enclosure

It seems that my slate isn’t working with the mini under tank heater.. should I put it on the side or get a bigger under tank heater? The slate isn’t thick and I already set the thermostat so I’m not sure??

From what I've heard in reptile groups the herpstat thermostats are considered some of the best dimming stats in the US.

Thanks to your video that gave us a challenge to handle our Leo’s I did it last night having now had them 6 days. From a rescue. I do have a question as I think I’ve brought the wrong lights. I have Arcadia 18W T8 Euro range. Desert 10% + UVB. Lamp. Is this too strong?

Yeah, that’s pretty strong for a leopard gecko. Although they should be fine as long as the light is on top of mesh, since the mesh will block out some of it. The heat source should be set to a temp in the low 90s, so the hot spot gets to the low 90s. Instead of a heat mat, I highly recommend looking into halogen bulbs or Arcadia’s deep heat projector. They’re far more natural and beneficial than heat mats. Just keep in mind that halogens need a dimming stat. Are your geckos housed together?

nope, but if you don't use UVB you must provide D3 along with other vitamin and minerals :)

I live in the us and I've found where to get the Earthpro-A but can't find the calcium-mg. My mom finally said I can get a Leopard gecko and ive been doing tons of research and have almost everything I need for her; im going to get a female and name her Treeco after the Pokemon. I need a bunch more stuff for her but its kinda hard to find sometimes and at a good price too.

I have a leopard gecko that I just got and he has stuck shed. Anytime I put my hand near him he freaks out. How can I get the stuck shed off

Thank you so much for this video. Theres still something I didn’t quite understand about heating. So you use either a heat mat or a deep heat projector not both at the same time right? And you said about the UVB light that it’s on a timer. How about the deep heat projector? Is it on a set timer also (eg 2 hours in the morning) or is it always “on” but turns on and off automatically using the thermostat? Sorry for asking such a dumb question but I’m getting my very first gecko next year and I wanna be prepared as best as I can Thanks , greetings from Austria, Liz

You don’t need a timer for the deep heat projector, just a thermostat. And halogen bulbs are better, although they require a dimming thermostat.

Heat mats are not a good primary heat source. I recommend using a halogen flood bulb as the primary heat source, they’re the most natural and beneficial heat source. A deep heat projector is the second best option :)

The DHP works fine on its own when setup properly. I believe she only uses DHPs, for some of her geckos at least

I just got a leopard gecko shipped to me. I was curious should i soak it? I always soak my snakes to hydrate them when they first arrive. Not sure if thats a bad move with leopard geckos

There are some at dollar general during Christmas time for outdoor lights and things and they are only $5 and are able to be turned off :)

I know this is a leopard gecko channel, but I have a question about my crestie. I put him in a sauna to help his shed on his toes come off, yet it won't come off and he won't let me get a q-tip to slowly rub it off. I am a first time crested gecko owner (a worried one) and I was wonding if I could e-mail you a photo of him and his enclosure so you could give me any tips. He's very jumpy and I'm very worried.

Hi, Me and my daughter are looking at getting a crested gecko we have been building up the enclosure and have a nice set up going...one thing we are struggling with is the heating...what would you recommend for first timers. the heating bulbs seem a bit overkill to raise the temperature a few degree but not sure if heat mats will do the job correctly. Any advice would be great. Thanks

A ceramic heat emitter or deep heat projector connected to a thermostat and measured by a digital thermometer. Set it in the mid 70s

I use the Bio Dude's Terra Sahara substrate for my gecko. It looks awesome in the tank and my gecko likes digging down into it. So it's definitely a great option for those in the US! :)

@@ghsty318 No, I've never had any issues with impaction. It does have some larger pieces in it though, so if you're concerned that the gecko might eat it, you might want to sift through and pull those pieces out. I feed my gecko on a piece of slate rock or in a bowl so he's not eating off the substrate.

The products you have available in the U.K. are soooo nice. I really trust Arcadia and would love a chance to use their substrates. For timers, I use smart outlets. Some of them have their own apps, and some can be used with Google Home or Amazon Alexa. It’s easier for me because of darn Daylight Savings.

Steph Marie - I use both Gosund and BN-LINK, which you can get on Amazon. A four-pack of Gosund outlets is around $30.
