Hi how are you i have a question for you sir i bought a remanufactured engine from AutoZone wich it came with the valve cover installed do you think i have to take them off to put the engine on dead point to install the distributor??????
Hello Pete. Thank you for this informative video. I'm interested in understanding the significance of different thickness head gaskets for the same application. I see for example the thicknesses go up from 1.0mm to 1.2mm in 0.05mm increments. Is this to cater for more surface roughness or surface flatness deviations? Thank you
I have fresh machined 1974 sbc block and heads. Bought felpro gasket set supposedly premium (7733SH2 kit) and the head gaskets are just steel shim stock (.015” thick). Inquired with felpro and they said to use a spray on sealant (such as the copper coated sealant). So that’s straight from felpro for the 7733SH1 steel head gasket set that are in this kit.
Hi I was replacing a head gasket on a 1990 toyota corolla and what was most confusing is that the gasket did not have holes where the block and head had holes; and there was nothing in the instructions to explain, so was worrying.WAS IT MADE TO SUIT DIFFERENT MODELS, MAYBE?
so felpro is better than victor reinz gasket? excuse me Pete i bent the corner of gasket, last question Pete what is yhe spec torque for a 2014 Toyota Prius C?
I just did the top end on our 76' Corvette and used Fel-Pro 1142-026 gaskets. By the way, your videos were incredibly valuable to me as I've been doing small engines for the past 16 years. I think I would had made a big mistake with cam choice if not for you. Anywho, had to remove a head after torquing so I contacted Fel-Pro to ask if I could re-torque and was asked if I used studs or bolts, I used studs. And was told if I hadn't started the engine that I could re-torque the head and the gasket would hold, it did just fine. Just wondering your opinion on this matter.
Hi Pete hoping you can help me out. My new head gasket it exactly the same as my old one except for 1 tiny hole. Can I drill it out to match? Or should I leave it? Cant find a exact matching 1. Old car parts are hard to find.
Here's the real question; how do you know the one you're taking out is the correct original? If the old one works, it matches up except for that hole, and you can't find the right one, you could try.
On my 3rd Fel-pro 1153-1 Performance Head gasket......very expensive.....layers are separating after several runs of hi boost......Using L19 head studs ...Also retorquing required after each run (can loose up to 30 lb torque where the layers start to separate.
You didn't cover a situation I ran into with Fel-Pro head gasket instructions. It reads "Important: If the gasket you are replacing did not utilize 8 metal ferrules, please remove them from this gasket before installation." What are they talking about?
yes but isn't also correct that reusing regular bolts has a limit to how many times they can be reused and that it maybe wise to replace the bolts on a very old engine?
some product makers don't give instructions nor marks to indicate installation; probably because they think it is obvious, but when you are a newbe nothing is obvious and since they are making products for DIYers as well, it would be a great help if they did
10:30 NOT symmetrical. there are small holes on one side and not the other. If you are doing a job, make sure you look for videos regarding your specific application. I DO understand that this video is mainly for information purposes, but Just a warning to those doing this kind of repair. Love your videos , Pete, and I think your car is the twin for mine. @@PetesGarage thx for the reply. My cobra is cursed. Been problem after problem since I got it. Been trying to watch your vids to help with fixing some of the issues i have. It's crazy seeing yours behind you because mine looks literally identical! Lol. I havent done a deep search but do you have your videos categorized to specific builds/topics? I'd like to binge watch all the cobra build videos. Nevermind, I see them all grouped together. I'll have to start watching them.
