Just upgrading your radiator fans will improve your ac because it also cools down your condenser

I had 2 of those derale controllers melt on me. The problem with those was that both lines powered both fans, ended up getting an autozone special (same exact thing ) difference was that this one’s actually separated power and they had extra fuses going from the controller to the fan (and diodes) I also added a stupid light and a override controller, the stupid light powers with each fan so I know when they are running. The override is in case the controllers fail, also a kill switch

Great job man. Installing mine next week and this video brought up great points and parts I can use. Just one small note, your heater hoses at the firewall are switched.. The one coming from your radiator should go to the bottom of your heater core and the one going into your intake manifold should be on top. Just a minor thing but it will help circulate your water properly and give you better heating as well
@truckandroll989
@truckandroll989 4 года назад
Wow thats awesome i had no idea! Thanks for noticing that. When i bought the truck the heater system was totally screwed up. Core leaked, hoses were gone, all of the cables inside the cab were backwards. Next time the coolant is out of it Ill switch them around :)

The vent flaps on your shroud are the real issue I have found. I have a good static slow moving e fan with a shroud. It works real well doing it's job. My issue I am having to fix is not enough air flow at higher than fan speed. I am finding out that the flaps are a big necessity and not mentioned much at all.

Ur explanation about diode is totally wrong.. and every alternator needs a diode cuz alternators produce ac current and the entire car electric system runs on dc.. a diode will make the ac current to dc current by flipping the negative cycle to positive.. and the regulator takes a slight power from the battery to power the filed winding (armature)after the car starts .. and thats how the alternator produce power. The regulator controls the filed current to regulate the alternators output voltage.. the main reason to use an alternator instead of dynamo is that the cars engine rpm is not fixed.. so the voltage can vary a lot.. and the regulation of voltage is easier in alternator after the invention of transistors... & The pigtail u talking about is the sense wire for the alternator.. it measures the voltage right at the battery terminal to keep it at 14.4v ... & The other wire is for the battery light and field energizer. .. when u turn the ignition on .. the battery light on ur dash comes on cuz the a current flows from 12v battery terminal through the bulb on ur dash and to the alternator enegerizer.. & when the car starts the alternator starts making voltage and it powers it self up from the power of the alternator.. and thats why u really need to have some sort of energizer (exciter) for the alternator.. typically its a car battery in car.. or a second dynamo or battery in a genarator.

I think it’s called dieseling when the car wants to keep running after you shut the key off. It’s cool that you traced it back to your alternator. My mustang does it once in a while and I’ve been through the timing numerous times but never figured it out. I’m installing the same fans as you right now using the relay I was using for my single 16in derale and adding another relay setup. Which wires would go to the switch in the car ?
@truckandroll989
@truckandroll989 2 года назад
Sorry i dont have the truck anymore. If you can id opt for a temp sensor vs a switch so its automatic and you dont accidentally forget to switch it on.

@@6spd85notch gotcha. Yea mine worked great. I am at high elevation (4500ft base) and hot (100F) in the summer. I never had any overheating problems. I was setup so my Holley EFI would turn on the 1st and 2nd fan at set temps. Never ran over 195F even in traffic

@truckandroll989

Ive heard excellent things over the years about those fans. I think Ford had some good OEM ones. I feel like the big key that people miss with fans is either omitting the shroud or an improperly sized shroud

@truckandroll989
@truckandroll989 2 года назад
Sorry I dont. You will need to use a multimeter and searched for a switched 12V source to trigger your relay. Shouldnt be to hard to find. Just confirm you find a spot thats 12V when ignition on or running and 0V when key off

Thanks for the video, looking forward to the installation video. My radiator & eFans are waiting patiently for me to install them. Question: what serpentine kit/brackets are you using? Looks clean and simple, I want to get away from my vbelts on my sbc but don't want to spend $$$ to do it.
@truckandroll989
@truckandroll989 4 года назад
Unfortunately I’m not too sure on the brackets since they were on the truck when I bought it. I did however have to change the serpentine pulley size for my old alternator to a smaller one because it was not charging at idle. I believe the ratio between the alternator and crank pulley is supposed to be 3:1. Just something to keep an eye on if you aren’t charging at idle but do just off idle.

Joseph Minch you should Just be able to unbolt. You will need to most likely add some locknuts on the other side to hold the pulley on without the fan depending on how yours was set up. Its pretty easy though
