He is EXACTLY the kind of guy(not man) that would think keeping money he accidentally received is ok. He knew that phone bill was being paid in error, he didn't care. And, he calls her "money hungry"?!? What a prize.
Our bank deposited our paychecks into my brother’s checking account once. And when they realized what they had done … the teller withdrew it from my brother’s account AND withdrew it from my account, and then turned her drawer in for the day being off by over $4K. It took us hours to get that mess cleared up. We all moved our accounts to the bank next door to a much better bank!
Ya and when JJ said the bank gave u too much what would u do? Prob spend it. He said he’d buy a Harley. How in the world would he be able to use a Harley if he’s disabled 😳
@@jules3048 Because the entire "disability" system is just wide-scale fraud. People found out how to cash in decades ago by faking illnesses and injuries, and realized they can make more by doing that than the full-time jobs they had before.
Doesn't matter anyways, when defendant loses the court pays the judgement anyways. That is part of the show, they pay for plaintiff and defendant airfare, accommodations, per diem and judgements thats how they get litigants to come on the show...why do u think litigants will sometimes fly across the country for a small claim..they get a few trip to CA
@@Onxy1976There is a pool of money, that they split. The judgement comes out of that. So if they lose, they get less. Say the pool is 5,000. If there is no judgement for either side, they split it, and each get $2500. If one person gets judgement of $2000, that comes from the pool, and they split the rest (3,000), so then they each get 1,500 (and the winner gets the additional 2000), so the winner would get $3500, and the loser $1500.
Thank God at least that they weren't married for a full ten years or he would have qualified for a portion of her social security benefits when she retired! I had an aunt that was so petty that she put off retirement as long as she possibly could bc she didn't want her ex husband who she was married to for twenty years to get any of her social security benefits.
The defendant is on disability yet he would buy a new Harley if he got extra money. Must be a terrible disability that allows him to be able to ride a Harley.
not all disabilities can be seen or are physical. a quick google search will explain that to you...yeah he is a POS but please educate yourself on disabilities before you make assumptions..
@@jeaniebee3657i think you missed their sarcasm 🤔 they're implying the dude is faking and not really disabled. They arent going in on disabilities. Have a great day 🙂
You can actually hear the marbles rolling around in this guy's head as JJ tries to explain things. He's totally overwhelmed with too many "facts and figures".
That’s very interesting to have to pay alimony without any biological children. Why? He mentioned disability but 8 1/2 years is a long time to pay alimony to a grown adult man. She should have went back to court and had that renegotiated
it is Alimony, not child support. Alimony takes more than the children into consideration. If a rich guy was married to a woman and gave her a certain lifestyle for several years and she was at home, even without biological children, he has to pay alimony, which is considered when helping her "transition" back into working society. He said that he raised her kids, that means he was at home and raising step children, then I can see where the alimony is coming from. She must've had/has a really good job since she was considered the "breadwinner" for the majority of the marriage, even if he was home with "disability"
courts generally consider new money earned during a marriage as a marital asset, belonging to them both. So if prior to the marriage, she made $50K/yr and during the marriage she switched jobs and started to make $80K/yr, the difference of $30K/yr is a marital asset. The $50K was hers from prior to the marriage, but the $30K net to the marriage is both of theirs. This is why some people that win a lottery try and divorce their spouse before claiming the prize. That doesn't work cause the spouse only needs to prove that the ticket was bought during the marriage.
Over $3000 in phone bills!! If you use a phone sir, pay for you phone bills! You already get $1600 from the government + $1400 from the plaintiff!!! OMG!! Thank you Judge Judy for breaking it down to the defendant because this is an irrational and selfish behaviour 😩 Now the tables are turned and he says "ahhhh" 2:49. A selfish fellow!!! Run the plaintiff her moneyyyyyy 😁
Exactly, but technically disability insurance does not come from the government, which i gather he's receiving from the amount he says. I get disability insurance, it comes from a trust that I paid when I was able to work, SSI is a welfare program that comes from the government but it's not anywhere close to what he receives.
He must have had a hell of a divorce lawyer to get that kind of decree. As I thought, it was an easy case. He owed her the money. He just didn't want to be responsible for his own debts. I can see why she divorced him.
I loved his complaint about "If I found a dollar, she'd ask for 90 cents of it". Maybe it's because she needed it to pay bills. That seems like such an odd thing for him to say when he clearly wasnt the one bringing home the bacon and his ex wife was so use to paying the bills she didnt even realize she was still paying for his cell phone.
“Huhhh? Whadda ya mean? Why do I have to pay my phone bill? Nah, I’m gonna get this knocked off just like I did with my alimony.” He was completely lost!
I’m not against the alimony if he was a stay at home parent , women get it al the time , but to not pay back the phone bill that she mistakenly paid is bs .
Agreed, but they did not have children together. She had two and he had one but they had none together. If he stayed home and watched all the children while they were married and she worked and paid the bills then that was their marital arrangement, but she took her children with her when they divorced so his part of the bargain is over while she doles out $1,400 a month! For what?
@@shellywatson8950 it’s the law and it sometimes is unfair on both sides. There are many more woman earning alimony than man , and trust me this guy is less useful than a trash bag with a hole, I’m not defending him . Child support is for children , alimony is for the party that made less during the marriage , depending on the state .
Lol, yep. I was married for twenty years and my ex paid 300/month in child support. He made about 100k/year. Acted like I was using the money for myself. Dude, it's 300/month. Selfish narcissistic idiot.
Hold on... she's eager to complete the alimony payments and be done with him, and on hearing that, he's suddenly proclaiming that he loves her still? Did I hear right in the end?
He sure has a funny way of showing that he loves her. "I love you, babe, but not enough to stop sucking the life out of you." She is a gorgeous woman who deserves way better than this kind of narcissist's love.
She's worth like 500 million dollars. He needs to stop saying "But my lawyer said I don't have to pay this back!" Your lawyer could be his damn brother-in-law who just finished law school. He doesn't trump the arbitrator.
This is exactly why people are cautious to marry those that are not their financial equal. This case scared the hell out of me. Imagine paying an ex 1400 a month for 9 years. I’m sick for her!
That lady must've had a horrible lawyer. She should try to make the alimony go away. What a scam she has to pay him 16,800 a year. She's given him over 134k in all for 8 yrs. That guy is a leech.
He was probably disabled for the duration of their marriage and when a spouse is a dependent, you tend to end up paying them alimony for a time. I'm surprised it's for as long as it is. She's still got three more years!
@@ImOnAJourney Correction: he doesn't _want_ to work. There are plenty of jobs he could do that don't require any physical exertion or movement (such as lifting heavy objects, travelling from one city to another).
I wish she would’ve dismissed this case without prejudice and had them go back to their home state so he had to pay it out of pocket! I hate that the show paid him!
The man is unbelievable. Called her money hungry when he is living off the gov't and goes after alimony!!!! It's unreal real how entitled he is. He even said he would keep the money if the bank accidentally deposited it in his account. The fact that someone is on national television admitting laziness, fraud, and greed, makes me wonder what he is like when the cameras are turned off.
She should found out if SSI knows that she is paying him $1400.00 each month . When your on SSI you can't have more than $2000.00 a month in your account. She should turn him in to SSI and then go back to court tell judge he's getting SSI and before she goes back to court get a better lawyer .
The bank wrongly transferred 1k into my grandma's account, and without knowing, she spent it. She had to repay it. I wish you could tell the bank to "suck it up" , I mean you can but it won't work.
She's lucky it was 1k and they likely just took it out of her account, by his logic he could withdraw 20k that was credited in error, yeah, well that's grand larceny and they'd lock him up and he'd be sucking it up. During Katrina around here ATMs did not have communications to the network but banks programmed them to still issue funds, since people took funds they knew they didn't even come close to having and they were out behind bars.
The defendant acted like a arrogant jerk. He should be ashamed. Theres something disgusting about a lazy man taking money from a ex-wife while he does nothing..uugg!
Never seen a case where the woman had to pay the man alimony, but it looks just as ridiculous either way. Also, $3000 a month to do nothing?? He makes more sitting on his ass collecting from his ex and the government than a lot of people make actually working 40hrs a week!!!
As someone who has worked for the feds, I would love to be a fly on the wall when he told them to stick it after an overpayment. Dude won’t have to worry about living expenses when he is getting 3 hots and a cot. 😂😂
This is how it really should be in any marriage. Women should have to pay alimony too. The women in the audience act like it's totally unfair. Glad she got her money for the phone bill, that's how it should be.
He had the nerve to call her money hungry, when, over an 8 & half year period, he’s going to collect something like $142,800 off her, despite having no children together, & being married for a relatively short amount of time. She got well and truly fucked in their divorce.
Love the plaintiff. She just sat and enjoyed the show as Judge Judy was berating him. That's so relatable. Alimony should never be a thing in 99.9% of cases. Ensuring some old lady/man isn't destitute after a divorce (even then it's kind of questionable given the fact assets would be split in a divorce), fine. But "we were married and then you were successful, pay me forever." is just goofy.
