I absolutely love the look of the tarantula cribs, but they’re a bit too pricey, those are a save up piece. I love how you set this one up, and great beautiful T to go in it. Also, I wish I was closer, I’d love to go to animal con, I see there’s some of my faves there. It would be a great time I know, I wish I could be there!!

This enclosure literally fixed the only 2 complaints I’ve ever had with my Tarantula Cribs. 1. My biggest gripe was the door on the slider crib. Within one week of having the slider cribs set up, all three doors began getting sticky. I’m assuming the acrylic swelled up from the moisture, but then again I rarely mist my enclosures at all. I only mist them in the initial set up, and the substrate is damp too. This new enclosure seems to have done away with the sliding door, so no more sticky doors, and a much simpler magnetic design that comes off by simply lifting upwards. (Yes I’m away the sliders used magnets too, but the design was poorly executed). 2. The second gripe I had was simply the size of the largest slider crib. The largest slider was only 12x8x8 which is fine for juveniles, and some adult species, but other adults reaching passed 6 inches in length you’ll probably want to give slightly larger enclosure like a 12x12x12. Other than those 2 gripes I have with the large slider, it all seems to be fixed with this new and improved bigger cube! I’m looking forward to getting a few in the future. Hopefully they don’t make any changes to them by that time.

Nice! My favourite genus of tarantulas. Back in the day i had a bunch of X immanis and X intermedia. I had a huge 9 inch female. They where not that expensive back then, not here in europe anyway. Very nice enclosure! Here in europe we have had glassterrariums for a long time. Those are also very clear and "ubdisturbed" It was very common to build you own, like DIY terrarium. I have builded many terrariums, many u still use today!

They are a beautiful genus. They are so pricey here in the states which is why I waited so long to get one. The one I bought I got through a mystery box so I only paid a fraction of the cost. The other two I have I was gifted by a very generous friend. I love the Euro style enclosures. I have always wanted to DIY one myself but I don't have the time to spend working on them so it's much easier to buy.

@@TarantulaHaven Easy and quick to build. 6 precicely measured 4mm glass panels (one acts as the top you open). A couple of aluminium lists, a sheet of perforated stainless steel plate and a tube of siloconrubber. Day one you glue together the bottomplate with 2 of the side plates. And next day you glue the other 2 side plates. Day 3 you glue the metallists and the ventilation. Now you have a pretty clear glasstank. There are no sidevent on this type, but i have never had any problems, and i have used them fir 15 years. Important to have a large ventilation plate, like half of the top. You can easily build glassenclosures with side ventilation plates but this is little trickier if you never build your own before. So i just told you a easy tank

I like these a lot better than the enclosures that the doors are the ones that slide out as they buckle and are hard to remove them if you have a humid species or plants that require watering!!!! Thanks for the vid.. I'll be getting a few of these!

Tarantula Cribs design is superior in my opinion. I have a few different acrylic enclosures and the lids are already bending. I have one that has a spot on the bottom that didn't seal properly and it leaked every time I water. Never had an issue with Tarantula Cribs and their design seems to prevent the warping seen in other acrylic enclosures.

What a gorgeous enclosure, and an even more beautiful tarantula! I was wondering though, how strong are those magnets holding the lid down? I've got a 5" female Aphonopelma chalcodes who's in dire need of a new enclosure but she's a real escape artist and is constantly pushing on the edges of the lid and door on the Exo Terra 8"x8"x8" she's currently in. Do you think a large adult tarantula could push the lid on the 12" Tarantula Cribs cube open if they tried hard enough? Or are the magnets strong enough to make it escape proof?
@TarantulaHaven
@TarantulaHaven 2 года назад
Thank you. The magnets on the lid are very strong Neodymium magnets. It took a lot of effort for me to take the lid off when I tried to pry it directly upward. There's a trick to it, if you slide the lid over it's easier to break the hold of the magnets but if you pull straight up, they don't want to let go. So yeah, there is no way a tarantula would be strong enough to push out of the enclosure.

@@TarantulaHaven Thank you very much for the info! It sounds like Tarantula Cribs were really thoughtful in their design of the lid mechanism, so my chalcodes will be getting a 12" cube next week =)

Check their web site. They have a policy where if your lids warp they can work something out. I’m not sure what that means but maybe they’ll replace them for you. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

I wouldn’t recommend it as a permanent home for one. They get pretty large and it might be a little cramped.
@SergeiMosin
@SergeiMosin 2 года назад
Honestly... I'd be afraid of using this enclosure with a larger spider. Theraphosas are extremely strong as both juveniles and adults and if they got leverage on that lid I could see it popping right off. I would much prefer if they dovetailed two slots for the lid to slide inside of. I admit that's probably just paranoia, but... a healthy dose of paranoia keeps the spiders from going on unsanctioned vacations into the living room 🤣
@TarantulaHaven
@TarantulaHaven 2 года назад
Believe me neodymium magnets are very strong. If I were to lift straight up on the lid, I would take the whole enclosure with me. The reason it looks so easy in the video is because with these strong magnets if you slide sideways it’s easier to break the magnetic hold but pulling straight up it is very difficult. I don’t think there is a tarantula strong enough to push out of that lid.
@SergeiMosin
@SergeiMosin 2 года назад
@@TarantulaHaven That certainly makes me feel better about the whole affair. I've had T. Stirmi manage to lift the lid off of a plastic box before and pop out to say hello (thankfully while I was in the room and able to contain her), so it's been an uphill battle against paranoia since then

They are really nice but the thing that bugs me about this brand is that they can be pretty pricey. You can make all of these enclosures for a small fraction of the price and just a little know how. I know that you are sponsored by them and you definitely got these sent to you for free but I really cannot recommend stuff like this for regular everyday keepers.
@TarantulaHaven
@TarantulaHaven 2 года назад
It was sent to me to promote its release, after all this is an unboxing of their new product. They are somewhat pricey but pretty much on par with many of the other acrylic enclosures out there. Some are cheaper, but so is the quality. I stand by the quality of Tarantula Cribs and feel they are superior to the others. As far as making your own with materials and know how, you may be able to save a few bucks but you probably won't match the quality of acrylic that they use (high clarity, resistant to yellowing and warping). I looked up some Lexan Acrylic and it averaged about $15 for a quarter inch 12 X 12 Sheet. Multiply that times 6. That doesn't include the acetone used to fuse the pieces together, drilling the holes correctly, and even cutting any smaller parts necessary for mounting the magnets or creating the slots for sliding. That's a whole lot of time and effort to try to save some money. I'm a frugal person, and I am not wealthy. I have purchased my own Tarantula Cribs because I like the look and quality of their product. I am friends with many "regular everyday keepers" whom have also purchase tarantula cribs for the same reason. No, I don't purchase them or recommend them for all of your enclosures. Personally, I would never put a fossorial tarantula, that I would rarely see, in one because I would consider it a waste of an enclosure when a simple Sterlite tub will do. Yeah, I will spend the money on a beautiful tarantula that likes to be out on display because I want others to enjoy it as well and it always makes it nicer to see them in a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, enclosure. That's the beauty of tarantulas though, they don't mind if they're in an acrylic shoe box, a Sterlite tub, or an Amac box. As long as their needs are being met, they're good. That's why tarantulas are great pets because they fit any budget. 🤓👍
@ClickClack_Bam
@ClickClack_Bam 2 года назад
I went to the site to price around after reading your comment. I see it both ways personally. You can make an enclosure for a tarantula for next to nothing. I mean people keep them in storage containers. That said these containers have a really clean nice look to them. Me personally I like to display my pets instead of sticking them into a shelving unit or a storage container to never really see my pets. For $188 you can get 3 containers of different sizes to grow a tarantula in. That might seem pricy & well it is, but you gotta figure this is quality housing for the ENTIRE life of your spider! Just call it $200 all together that you've spent on the cage to get it to your door. $200/20 years of keeping a tarantula =$10 a year housing cost. $200/30 years =$7 roughly That's really a workable amount for housing if you had to pay that per year.
