This lineup is great. A revival of the true Kansas spirit. The lead vocals are clean and the emphasis true …. No hijinks, no mindless movement just pure Kansas sound and grass roots rocking!!!!!!
Every lineup of Kansas still produces a great sound and this one is no exception. One of the tightest bands of its type, ever. Keep it up and thanks for the inspiration!
Favorite band of all time. Titans of prog rock. I was lucky enough to see them on the Audio Visions tour with the Original Six, and have seen them twice since, including this past March in New Haven. I've never been disappointed. That said, there's just something about the Original Six that can't quite be matched…
Great sound quality! Helped that you were behind the sound board. I’ve seen these guys over 30 times and they never disappoint! They are overdue for the RRHOF!
Way overdue !!! I recently promised myself to write the RRHOF. They should be ashamed for not having this amazingly talented and iconic rock band nominated when there are so many other non-rock musicians that have been inducted. Unfortunately, Robby is no longer with us. Hopefully, he will be watching from above. Not sure what the RRHOF is waiting for.
As one of the 10 or 12 people that drove in a snowstorm to Snavelys Pub in Whiting Kansas to see them play the first time they ever played as Kansas... they sound like Kansas... I approve. :)
I've seen Kansas, I think, 13 times and usually they were pretty great, but I'm impressed with the lineup they have now. It would have been great if Steve Morse had stayed longer but sadly the magic ended at that point. I can't wait to see this lineup in the near future. They are quite impressive!!
Really hope on this latest leg of the tour they add some new stuff. The new album is awesome and Throwing Mountains is a killer track that deserves to be heard live!!!!!
Steve Walsh or not .these guys are still keeping this music alive .so great .and really sound pretty good for not having many original.members .singer doin ok as Walsh not easy to do. So give him credit for helping to keep kansas alive . I’ve seen kansas at least 10 times since the 70,s always great band .and always get your moneys worth .every show. Rock on .
The search for a replacement should have gone the same way Journey did it. There are Steve Walsh sound alikes all over RU-vid. No offense to Ronnie, he has a great voice but he doesn't have the pipes of soul that Steve had.
The first time I saw and heard Kansas was in 1981 and later I've seen them several times. Always loved this group. First time I heard a record of theirs was in 76 or 77 and I was instantly hooked to the band!!!
So did I but he can't sing like that anymore therefore retirement. Ronnie Platt does an excellent job at 61 years old and can hit the notes just as good.
@@BanBanChi Just as good as Steve in the 70's !! ?? Just listen to him butchering Icarus right from the start. Sorry, but there are cover bands here on YT that the vocals sound much better. And this is coming from a Kansas fan starting in 1974.
@@WilliamsDad1989 Do you sing, have you ever sang in a band? Steve is a difficult act to follow. I think he's doing very well. As far as some of these covers you have seen , I have seen them as well. Most of them lacked one important thing. Steve's vocal tone . You could tell they aren't Steve. If someone played you a live recording of this giuy without seeing him, you wouldn't be able to tell. Understand?
Thanks for this. I canceled out of the meet and greet at the last minute. Tom Brislin's work on keys really elevates the sound of the band. Too bad they didn't play any of the newer material.
What's hard to endure is listening to Walsh try to sing for the 20 years that he butchered the songs, listen to Live at the Whisky and than you'll appreciate the current lineup!
And at 5:55......when Phil Ehart rips around the set, breaks/drops sticks, finishes with his fist and EVERY single one of 'em laugh and love the "Shit happens-Moment" !!! So fun , So professional. What a Band !!.....What fun it must be to be among these guys, in this Band.
@@dward7848 I never really liked Elefante. I think Platt does a better job if he doesn't have the distraction of being the frontman. I think Ragsdale is a better frontman. He doesn't look uncomfortable at all. Not the originals... ya. People who never saw the original band I guess can think they're ok. Trying to be objective... they are ok.
Steve Walsh hasn't been Steve Walsh since the 1990s...with Platt, they can do more songs from the catalog now....from the mid 1990s until he retired, Kansas concerts were the same 10-13 songs...because Walsh's voice was practically gone
To be fair, Steve hadn't been Steve for years either. Having seen the band many times since '77, no one could touch Steve in his prime, agreed, but after Somewhere to Elsewhere, Steve's vocals really struggled. This guy sounds like a little bit a mix of Steve and John. The last time i saw them, they opened for Styx (also no Dennis DeYpung) co-headling, each date the switched who opened, and he was new with the band. It was better than i had hoped. But man, glad they're still out there playing.
@@1satisfiedmind S2E is a studio album. I contend his LIVE voice was done by Live at the Whiskey(1992)...and in the studio, it is evident on Freaks of Nature(1995)....especially in the first few lines of 'I Can Fly'. You can hear the scratchiness.
I recall seeing them on their "Point of Know Return" tour where they played two shows at the Fabulous Fox in ATL (1977). On their last song "Sparks of the Tempest" , (before their encore), they, one by one, walked off the stage and the song was still playing/looping. Anyone who saw that tour experienced the same. It was intentional and quite surreal. You can hear the repeating ending in this video at 46:24 . The original members of Kansas again attended the Fox in Sep, 1978 but this time they didn't play. They were at the Fox to see the amazing Frank Zappa (can you blame 'em?).
This video was obviously shot standing behind the lighting console, from which point, Richard Williams on guitar can't be seen unless the person with the camera (who was probably a fan sitting in a paid seat) were to get up and move somewhere else.
People got to understand that Steve can't sing anymore and he's retired since 2014, get over it! This Kansas Line up is pure fire and they're doing it very good
As much as I like the classics I prefer them to not be a juke box of hits. Play at least a couple of new songs and while they are at it…..play Perfect Lover!
Songs from The Absence Of Presence have been added to the set now. It depends which show you see what the songlist is. They have a show called "Kansas Classics" which is solely the old material. Then they have (at least right now) the Point Of Know Return Anniversary tour that they're finishing out, and it's a 2 1/2 hour show with the entirety of Point of Know Return played from start to finish, along with other Kansas songs including Songs from both The Absence Of Presence and The Prelude Implicit. This was the Kansas Classics show.
You do realize Perfect Lover is almost 30 plus years old right? That said how bout some stuff from Freaks or STE? Or ITSOT? I'm happy with anything they play but they have such a huge catalog.
I've seen Kansas four times over the years...the Leftoverture tour and three subsequent performances which had various combinations of new members. The current line up is every bit as good, if not better, than any of those three.
Other than Steve and Robby, the band lost two key players Rags and Zac. Brislin has come a long way and NOW looks like a rock performer, Ronnie is sure the marketing phase of this.
@@ricothewestie6963 Was quite pleased with that album actually. Even with the lack of voice, his singing, style, emotion is all there. Something Ronnie doesn't bring is soul and emotion.
I looked for them in Rolling Stones Encyclopedia of Rock and they aren’t even listed. And there’s 1000’s of musicians and bands in there a ton of obscure ones that no one’s heard of. Doesn’t surprise me, Rolling Stone sucks and I’ve heard that they have a lot to do with the hall of fame choices.
I was willing to give this new line up a listen and when they did The Wall which is one of my favorite tunes the music was great but damn that singer ruined it for me and didn't listen to the rest. Kudos that the music still sounds good but that singer has to go,just my opinion from a very long fan of Kansas
Love Steve but Kerry is the soul and spirit of the band. Anyone can find vocalists on par with Steve (like John Elefante) but Livgren's songwriting prowess and evocative lyrics can never be equaled. Ever. After he left, the music was still good but not on the stratospheric levels that he elevated the band to.
Singer needs to go!! He doesn't feel the music. He is mechanized, up there for a pay check🤑!! I rather see Walsh back, although he is struggling😐! Walsh has passion, energy, and Is the 'music'. This singer is mediocre, and he brings nothing to the progression of Kansas. His voice does not fit 'live'. To be fair, I have not heard the 'studio' material, but Walsh will always be missed😍 Thanks Steve for Your Love to the fans, and the dedication🤩🤙!! Await Your Return!!
