Today we are doing some incline dumbbell rows. You can do this with dumbbells but I love to do them with kettle bells. Give this a try and let me know how you like it.

John Meadows is an American professional bodybuilder and entrepreneur with an intriguing story. While John now boasts a successful career as an IFBB Pro bodybuilder and fitness company owner, his journey towards the top was extremely difficult.
Growing up, John never met his father, and his mother died at an extremely young age. This meant John only had his grandmother to take care of him. When his grandmother tragically passed away in 1999, John was left alone without his family to support him.
As the years went by, John continued to face new adversities in his life. During his early days in bodybuilding, John suffered from a rare colon disease. After fighting the disease for several months, his colon burst - almost resulting in his death. Luckily, John was quickly rushed to an emergency room where his life was saved. After several months of recovery, John was finally back on his feet.
Coming back into bodybuilding, John used the very obstacles that almost cost him his life as ‘fuel’ to grow stronger. Ever since he recovered from the colon surgery, John has gone on to become a successful bodybuilder, entrepreneur, and inspiration for many people all over the world.

Still missed, never forgotten. Depending on the design of the dumbbells you have access to, it is possible to stand them vertically, and prone hook grip the top head of the 'bell and row them as you would a kettlebell. You have to contract slower, and it takes getting used to, but if you want that direct vertical drive that John preferred with the kettlebells, it's worth practicing.

I totally agree with the comment regarding the use of cattle bells over dumbbells. I use them for reasons explained. I have never condemned anyone for the use of any equipment that supports growth but am a firm believer that if growth can be achieved with comfort, then progress is so much easier.

Man I did these like an idiot for weeks, I used a lower incline so I can just pick up the dumbbells off of the floor and don't have to carry them over each time, limiting range of motion and probably missing out on most of the stretch. I'm gonna attempt this exercise with an ez-bar next upper day, with an increased incline of course.

I do the machine version of this exercise at my public recreational center every other day, three or four times a week. I always pair it up with either the chest press machine or the incline press machine, depending on if someone is using the ONE of each machine available. It's a fairly small gym. I am having trouble with my grip strength. My left forearm starts burning. I'm not sure how to keep everything balanced. Without any kind of professional instruction, I decided to that doing 3x10 reps at a higher weight on chest (190 lbs) and 3x12 reps at a lower weight on back (135 or 145 lbs) is likely more equal than doing 3x10 of both since the weight that I can is different.

Hey John absolutely love the videos! They have really inspired me to experiment at the gym! In doing so I found possibly the greatest cable attachment of all time- the sport trak sportrower. I have a theory that elbows tucked works the traps and rhomboids just as much in rows, but not the rear delts. You have more scapula retraction ROM with elbows tucked. Lats get worked more though so maybe they would take over, OR maybe it's more bang for your buck. The rhomboids seem to grow very little. Not sure about teres activation.

I have to say, I prefer going super light and doing a straight arm fly rather than a typical row - that way you can run a full set to multiple failure points, that is, when you reach failure with a straight arm, you bend it slightly to give mechanical advantage, then fail at that point, bend some more, fail again.... And with flys, it's easier to isolate muscle groups.... What's your take on this?

Hey John! On the quest to getting naturally yoked arms, it is a painfully slow journey but what do you think about getting the 'seated overhead tricep extension' crazy strong? I'm talking like doing the 110lb dumbbell for reps? Haven't seen you do them or talk about it. The weighted stretch is unbelievable on it and also many bodybuilders like Jay cutler and Kai greene went super heavy on them.
@Bullitt1768
@Bullitt1768 5 лет назад
Man does the whole stack overhead lol, he has a triceps vid with the black dude where he does them. With a isometric hold in the stretched position.
@Bullitt1768
@Bullitt1768 5 лет назад
Dumbbell puts your shoulders in a pretty bad position, better off using the cable station with a rope. Also emg data shows more activation of the long head with the arm extended behind the body(Ie Kickback), rather than a overhead movement.
@edwardfortae2350
@edwardfortae2350 5 лет назад
Thats my favorite tricep exercise and bulit my arms well. Im at 19" and its because of my triceps not my biceps for sure. I use a 100lb dumbell for 12 reps. My only recommendation would be to stop your forearm at a 90 or slightly below going very heavy. It puts more stress on my elbow than shoulders.
