Hey , I got my left shouldr dislocated four weeks ago for the first time in a bike accident, still I feel some pain in movement and I’m not able to raise my hand straight up above the shoulder. Please suggest what should i do?
I was the same with my right shoulder , did surgery 3 years ago and it neverd dislocated again. But unfortunatley my left shoulder dislocated 2 weeks ago...
Brother I can understand your pain I was also in this situation. Then I had around 7 dislocation in one year. I was afraid I was not even playing games or doing some exercise. But after 1 year I decided to go to gym and started with light weight exercise. In the beginning it was really difficult but after few months I was comfortable and now I can say my shoulder is in safe zone.
@@sajedali9505 lucky u ..when I sleep in bed .and I stretch my arm unknowingly..my right hand shoulder dislocates..it happened more than 5 times in last 7 month..I had a minor bike accident
If it is the case, I can show you how to use an effective physical therapy to fix this issue, since I used to suffer from that. You can contact me if you are interested in further information. All advise are free.
I was skating backwards on my lake when my dog ran behind me tripping me. Both feet flew into the air and I landed on my shoulder popping it out of place. What a painful experience! And my dog only got a two minute penalty for tripping!! After three weeks I still haven’t been able to see a surgeon or a PT so I will start these exercises immediately! Thanks!
Thanks Pat. Urgent Care put it back in place, so painful, but have yet to see an Ortho. They haven’t even acknowledged my calls. I hope this isn’t the new normal.@@patnewson6908
ughhh just dislocated my right shoulder for the second time & im freaking pissed. The first time the humerus dislocated was 5 years ago and I've been in the gym lifting weights 5x a week since. I thought this shoulder was completely rehabilitated & strong so this recent event left me scratching my head & it's really eating at me. What i'm alluding to is, once you dislocate your shoulder it will never be the same again. Always have to be mindful about certain movements and surroundings. Ironically, this time they put it back in it took them a great effort as they said my surrounding muscles were very strong and makes it way harder to move. It was the most agonizing pain i've ever had in my life the doctors had to take a break half way through because they got tired from pulling it. What a day...

@@wiiplaya25 It has been one year since my injury and I can confidently say I have 70% of my previous strength in this shoulder. Granted I go to the gym habitually and did aggressive physical therapy sessions. I'm an ironworker so I depend on my limbs to bring home a paycheck haha needless to say I took it very seriously. If you take the same approach you'll be good to go in 6 months. I took three months off from work and went back. It's really important to remember purposeful movements and think about every way your body is interacting with what's in front of you. Mind to muscle connection is legit & can really help your rehab. Also, in the beginning I was getting really stir crazy in the house and just feeling pretty useless. Jocko Willink has some videos that talk about injuries and rehab and all that. It really helped me mentally throughout all of it and I think you could really benefit from it as well. All the best man, you got this 👍🏼
Sorry to dissapoint anybody if your shoulder dislocates more than once your best of getting surgery of our an active person otherwise you will keep getting reoccurring instability to the shoulder and eventually damage to a point where you will have nearly to no range of motion so I recommend go see a consultant about your shoulder if it pops out more than once even if your not active and it’s popped out more than once get it checked physio can only help early stages but once it happens a lot only surgery can help it to a certain extent, great video on some exercises tho maybe good to help recover after surgery or first time dislocation
Craig Daly I’m extremely active and dislocated my shoulder this is the first time I’m only 15 but with good physio and strengthening it up over time do you still think I’d be able to compete at a high level ?
Jake Washington of course bro I have a friend who dislocated he’s shoulder he stayed out of training for almost a year but he has been boxing ever since and it’s over a year since it happened to him and he hits like a truck with the damaged arm he has full range of motion back and is normal because he did all the right physio and most importantly took the right amount of time off when it happened to me I didn’t take time off I returned like 3 months later and it dislocated again then I kept returning to early to the point I couldn’t even lift my arm straight up because it felt my bone was gonna pop I just had laterjet surgery 2 weeks ago and was told I can return to mma in a year or maybe a year and a half and I have no choice but to wait because if I damage my shoulder again it’s very hard to stabilize it again so my advice to you bro take a lot of time off go to physio and go see a doctor what do they think you will be fine tho and after maybe 4-6 months do some weights to build some strength in your arms, shoulder and back if the sport you do is rough give it longer than 6 months and do not listen to your friends or teachers or parents listen to your doctor and your doctor only you should be fine without surgery and return good luck champ!
Jake Washington all good my brother football is still contact so give it 4-6 months and check your range of motion get some bands to do some small stretches and you’ll be back in no time don’t do what I did and return cause your shoulder feels good cause it’s a trick you will return early and hurt yourself take the time off champ
We are all warriors 💪💪, i have encountered 3 since 2020 for my left shoulder, doctor told to go for surgery however i said no cause even after surgery people are going through the same issues.
Just now completed my Arm Sling phase. Now I'm in Rehabilitation phase. It's my first dislocation. Hope it won't happen again🥲☺. I'm feeling very comfortable now with small moments. I'll try to follow your exercises 😊👍🏻
I like the exercise they're very easy to do and I really like the one with the bar I've tried all three of them I've got a really bad shoulder and my right shoulder I've had a physical therapy two to three times so I find the bar I have one and it's very good to do so I would like to see more videos using the bar thanks for the video.
I’m pretty sure I dislocated my right shoulder doing dumbbell pullovers at the gym last week. I immediately got it to pop back into place luckily by pulling my shoulder blades together. I’ve been trying to work on range of motion and external rotation. Needless to say I probably won’t be doing pullovers for a long time or ever again. Thanks for the video
Mike Love Thyself that sounds like no fun. I ended up having to get labrum repair surgery. It wasn’t bad though, I’m over halfway through PT and my arm feels great
@@ahmadelshbasy3222 surgery wasn't bad at all, or at least not as bad as most people make it sound. The first 2 weeks were the hardest but I went back to work (retail) after 4 days. It just took me longer to stock shelves or unload trucks with one good arm.
There's no way i'm only doing that 3 times a day, all i do is sit home and think about how fast I can get better. I do these about 10 times a day as long as i don't get tired or hurt by the exercice. Anyone has got nutrition tips btw?
@@Heroguyjk i write with my feet now... They had to amputate, and also the other arm to keep things balanced... Don't follow these advices it's dangerous!
thanks for helping a week ago i got jumped and won but the cost of it was my arm dislocating i fought 2 at the same time i got one of them to the ground he was bigger then me and feel on my shoulder it popped out of place but i didn’t notice but i kept on punching him and then they ran off to a car and drove off then i noticed and recovered pretty quick
Just dislocated my shoulder at work 5 hours ago. I got lucky I popped it back in right after it happened just in time to help a cx. I hope this helps me get good before 9pm cuz I got a 10 hour shift coming up. Wish me luck...
@@kingapoluo8243 thank you for asking UPDATE: so turns out I ended up tearing my lumin tissue and chipped the bone in my shoulder and am waiting for w/c to approve a surgery. It's been since april trying to get them to approve every step I've had two case workers on this and I'm the one sending them paper work bc doctors keep forgetting to pass them info...this has helped strengthen my shoulder so it doesnt just click out as much but I'll have a 6 month recovery process from what the surgeon explained.
Be careful bro high risk it will dislocate again if your wrestling is recommend 6 months recovery even if you feel better take the 6 months off and rehab the shit outta that shoulder
I dislocated my shoulder twice one major and minor. And now i have no problems if i dont do heavy with my shoulder like lifting weights and anyother things. But when i do even a little bit more, my shoulder starts swelling. And it gets normal in a day or two. But this worries me a lot. Like i have no problem in normal life but i cannot hit back to the gym and that shit makes me sad
Doing the first exercise with the pole, what tends to happen is my whole shoulder lifts to compensate for the lack of rotary mobility. It’s almost impossible to stop it lifting.
@@Stateofmind00 hi friend. Exercising will not stop dislocations permanently (even years after doing exercises, you could still dislocate your arm with one silly and erratic movement) , however it will bring some much needed mobility, strenght & stability to the joint. Obviously everyone's different. But I think the only way to permanently stop dislocations is by arthroscopic surgery. But if you're not a physically active Individual, or don't have to do physical activity because of your job, then exercising should work fine for you.
@Andrew Garrett Then I'd recommend only doing exercises that isolate the deltoid muscle for a while. Then after progress to movement style exercises (such as the pole).
Did I harm myself? I dislocated my left shoulder in a fall. I went to an ER to get X-Rays and have the humorous put back in place. I only worn the sling one day. I had only 40 degrees range of motion the first day. It’s been five days and the pain is only present when I rotate my elbow up. I resumed recreational hiking immediately, but use a walking stick on terrain. I’m a 74 year old female.
I’m 21 and dislocated my shoulder in a car accident this past weekend. My arm hurts like hell and I’m afraid it’ll dislocate again if I pick up something heavy or if I throw a ball. I’m just scared honestly. I don’t want to have a bad shoulder because I’m super active. Hopefully I can get it stronger than what it was before the car accident. This sucks.
@@Deathrider3000 sounds good. I’m in a sling right now and I have an appointment next Thursday but it feels funny today. I hope I didn’t re dislocate it.
What about people with hypermobility and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome? My shoulders consistently dislocate or subluxate. How do I strengthen my muscles and protect joints, especially when dislocation and subluxation is normal?
Last 2 months ago, I dislocated my shoulder for 9hrs. I dont know how I endured that excruciating pain that long. Up until now, I cant lift my hand up and I am afraid to move it coz I feel like a its gonna dislocate again.
Same here..I dislocated my shoulder waaay many times over the past years but after puting it back and little bit of discomfort I was good to go..3 weeks ago I felt of the rock while hiking and dislocated it baad I didn’t do nothing with it thought gonna pass. That night was horrible I ended up in emergency room next morning and having it fixated for 3 weeks now, barely movable with pain.If not gonna feel better I recommend u go to hospital ASAP
4 shoulder dislocations now. The length between my 3rd and 4th was 5 years. Took alot to come out and this most recent one was a clean anterior dislocation. Without sling I feel 80%, havent raised my arm above my head waiting for physio to give me the clear but now considering surgery due to my crazy athletic lifestyle, if you rock climb or do that type of motion in your lifestyle. It seems surgery is the best option to go. Or I can keep strengthening and get back in 1 month to 1.5 months full range of motion as my last dislocations. Please help.

I have problems with my left shoulder. My left shoulder dislocate when I do any flip and it will fix after 1min when I move my hand slowly but the pain was so hard
i also experienced the same thing. around 4 or 5 times dislocated within a month. After doing MRI I've been told that it is labral tear and hill sachs lesion. surgery already been done last week now im in a recovery and physio phase. Wish me well
I have dislocated shoulder and cured on 25th july 2019 with proper procedure followed by doctors in hospital . From that day doctor told me to wear belt for atleast 30 days. Please let me know what are the exercises I can do so that i can cure fast
Hi Dr' I have problem of the dislocated shoulder from last 4 weeks and l have removed the sling but still painting and bit stiffness please give me some authentic tips to heal quickly thanks
I dislocated my shoulder alit a year ago, it popped out and was stuck for a minute before i popped it back. It was slightly popping in and out every few months but yesterday when I was playing basketball I went to hit the ball out somebody’s hand on a rebound and it popped out all the way, I kept moving my arm until it popped back and now my shoulder hurts today pretty bad. It’s not as bad as my knee when I had surgery but I don’t want to get another surgery. I love my health insurance soon, should I go to the doctor and get it checked or just be careful and not play so ruff and hope for it to not happen again
Once a dislocation happens it will happen again 💯 talking from my experience… u can never get rid of this problem in this life time .. but u can control the gap b/w dilocation Never forget about your dislocation if I forget i get dislocate.last time my shoulder got dislocated a 1.5 yr ago . now it’s dislocated again yesterday 🥲 “the only this i did was closing a fridge while walking forward.” For me my dislocation occurs mostly on front side of shoulder so when i do extreme work when hand is on back i get dislocated .
@@nixh5100 same just going to have to deal with it cant throw over head hooks just low upper cuts and body hits as long as u know what makes it dislocate dont do those things and youll be good im just trying to find some exercise that can condition it so it wont happen as easy
It depends bro after first time dislocating you can wait 6 months and do a lot of strength and conditioning and hopefully your shoulder will be stable if your looking to go back to any activities involving contact There’s a high risk factor it will dislocate again depending on how well you look after it, if it dislocates more than once your probably looking at a small surgery to fix the labrum if it’s popped out a lot of times you could have broke some bone and will need a bigger surgery to stabilize it so be careful the shoulder can really ruin your day to day things if not looked after right
@@delonrich8466 hey bro! I cannot speak for everybody else as I’ve seen some people have problems but I think like 90% or more people who get this surgery find it successful, the answer to your question for me personally is yes I found it successful I am competing in jiu jitsu and mma again I can swim I can do hand stand push ups my shoulder is perfect after surgery, the problem is just I do not have 100% range of motion I have maybe 80% but this is much better that my shoulder dislocation haha, another issue is after surgery it may take you over a year to recover and maybe pain can be there over this period also it’s really scary trying to recover as it can be fearful getting back to using your arm after such a procedure! But in my opinion bro if your shoulder problems are affecting your life man go get the surgery and make sure it’s a good hospital and your doctor seems smart and intelligent and careful with you, best of luck man
@@delonrich8466 hey man sorry I didn’t read my previous comment, the surgery I was talking about is “Laterjet Procedure” that is the surgery I got, but if you didn’t do to much damage to your shoulder you may receive another shoulder surgery which is called “arthroscopic surgery” which is a quicker healing period but I think if you are active in sports or overhead sports I think this surgery has failed for some people so depending on your lifestyle you may pick between those surgeries
I was punished for running on the treadmill (did it for decades) and it stopped and threw me off. I broke my shoulder and dislocated it along with an ACL sprain (that seems to be nearly healed in four weeks) but the shoulder is very weak.
Yeah you can work out but avoid workout on negative side of shou like barbell press on back wing workout on backside and also extrem pullupsss.. there are triggers for dislocation all these am talking from my experience
Dr. David 1st I would like to thank you so much for the great knowledge you are sharing with us and shining the light on how athletes and sporty people should deal with their injuries I have a very important question that I couldn't find any answer for and it can be maybe answered in a future video. I have torn my ACL over a year ago, didn't do the surgery and I live my life normally , I just don't run or do any contact sport anymore, there is this new surgery called BEAR "The Bridge-Enhanced Anterior Cruciate Ligament Repair" I would love to know your professional opinion on it and if its too late for me to do it now. the 2nd question is, what can go wrong since I didn't do the surgery?! I never feel my knee giving way or anything except when dancing with side to side movements
The stick or rod in front of you guys needs to be kept behind or in the safe place. Why I am telling because I tripped last week with a mop stick lying in front of me & dislocated my shoulder. Please be SAFE. I am under treatment & recovery. Thank you.

do u harm yrself by attempting use and exercise shortly after the relocation to joint. its barely 24hrs for me. typing this with 2 hands was even a test
hey, i hope everything's going alright. i dislocated mine a couple months ago, it's been an annoying process, but i'd keep on resting it and icing it for a couple days, even a week. sleep with a sling. stretch it out (extend it, nothing too much) out maybe once a day. as the days go on, work your way to doing these excercizes- id wait a week or two before doing them.
yes its important to know what excercises you can do, it depends on your recovery, what phase your in, when i went into the doctors the physio told me not to move me arm like they show in the 2nd excercise, when he asks "how far do you go" the physio doctor told me not to move past a straight line while its still healing, you want to let the body add new tendons and ligaments and then you can work on mobility, i was told not move my forearm to the side, but i was told to do resistance excercises where you stand near a wall and do that motion- moving foreaerm to the side with the wall stopping you, thats supposed to strengthen, then you want to strengthen the other way, pushing in toward your chest with something stopping your hand, its also important that your shoulder is set correctly as it helps isolate the right muscles while doing these exercises, another one i was told to do was clentch my fist really tight until icould feel it on the top of my shoulder , thats supposed to activate where it was torn, and it takes some squeezing hard to start to feel it, another was scapula squeezes, and then some pendulum rotation to get blood flow into the shoulder, those were the only ones i was told to do 2 weeks after my dislocation. You can find these excerices in videos around here but they dont mention the fact when its ok to do them which you should talk to a physio expert for that, but i thought id share what the one in Toronto St. Michael's hosipital shared with me.

@@kevink.3412 what if I've dislocated it 3 times and it's not getting better?? It doesn't hurt but if I try to do certain things I feel like it will dislocate again. And it's been months since the last dislocation.
@@TheOutlierToday For me it's actually been 4 times in the past 6 years. And also sometimes when I even tend to sleep in the wrong position, I still feel that the ligaments aren't intact as they should be but I still worry not, because as you will notice, less efforts activities or actions won't cause the dislocation, but rather those fast sudden shocks of which you weren't ready for are the ones that often cause such (In my case, all the 4 times disclocations happened when I was playing basketball, and whilst trying to block someone or got blocked and the other person hit my arm in an opposing direction than the one I was trying to push forth to, then It would dislocate). One of the ways I use to avoid often dislocations is learning well in which situations I get or likely to get a shoulder dislocation and avoid such as well as doing some should joint muscle strengthening exercises which really helps... like I've been doing some of that, and now I am at the stage of doing some weight lifting comfortably without that feeling as if your shoulders are tending to dislocate.
