So Morgan , my father was baptized in the Mormon church as a child but never wanted anything to do with the church as an adult. In fact , he drank heavily his entire life. He died a few months ago and my aunt believes he’s in heaven with his Mormon brother and parents. The fact that he didn’t practice the Mormon religion is ok because his parents were sealed in the temple? Would he qualify for the celestial kingdom having rejected the church like that? Confusing beliefs!

Take it from someone who was a single woman in the church the whole time i was there - IT SUCKED! You do feel like a second class citizen. Although I decided that I would be happy to be an angel for the rest of eternity. But on this earth it sucks. I questioned my own worth constantly - what was so wrong with me that no guy would want "this" for eternity? What is so great about "her" that she gets a guy and I don't!??! (BTW i'm not perfect and I know that but I am pretty great, even by LDS standards! :D!) I would go through the list of things that I "did" and even who I was, that I was a great person and I had a lot of love to give..but I always thought there was something wrong with me and that I was not worthy for some reason but could never figure it out. I felt punished. Oh it made me feel like crap.

One time I went to a Mormon baptism because the sisters invited me (they were reaching out to me), and after the guy was baptized, a woman came up to the stand, she was going to give a talk about how he would receive the Holy Ghost on Sunday. And before she quoted some scripture from the D&C she said to the new convert, "I'm guessing the elders haven't told you about the Doctrine and Covenants yet have they?" And he said, "No." And I'm like what?!? That is soooo much extra scripture that would've been important for that guy to know about before converting!

The question about those who were never married but make it to the Celestial Kingdom and what happens to them; those individuals become servants to those who are married. This was a domino in my getting out. I am not married nor have ever been, at 35 I asked my father about this and he said I’d be an angel and have an opportunity to marry later. I told him, but I’d still be a servant which is basically a slave. I will NOT be some Celestial Servant, what’s the point of getting to that level if you hadn’t your Free Agency, essentially? I’d rather be in the Telestial Kingdom and have my own agency.

Any church who discourages individuals from asking questions and thinking about their beliefs probably can't be trusted. Please question this church and it's many odd beliefs and practices. The origin is suspect which makes one think it is false. Mormons may be respectful etc. But that does not make their beliefs true. Their is so much research on their prophets, the way the book was found, the native American story, polygamy, becoming a God, Temple ceremonies.... so much. Mainstream Mormons still believe in the principle of polygamy but do not practice at the present time, although they will practice it in heaven in order to achieve the highest level of salvation in their Celestial kingdom. Also mormon men can be sealed (religious marriage) to 2 women at the same time but women can only be sealed to 1 man at a time. For example if a man's wife dies, he can be sealed to his second wife while still sealed to his 1st wife BUT if a woman's husband dies she will have to have her 1st sealing cancelled by the prophet to be sealed to her 2nd husband or only marry him civilly and not in the religious ceremony in their temple.

I find the comment about the eternal sealing interesting. I wonder how the good brothers/husbands were doing when Joseph Smith was sealed to their wives. Then they could not go to the heavenly exaltation because they had no temple sealing. Only one man can be sealed to a woman. They will therefore have to be sealed in the after life to an other woman otherwise they cannot go to the exaltation. Interesting and something to think about (for Mormons. Not for ex-mormons ofcourse:). Good talk Jessie and Morgan.👍

43:49 This brings up the question of the doctrine of doing ordinances by proxy in the temples (baptism for the dead by proxy and sealings by proxy for already married couples, sealings to parents) however, Mormons DON’T seal single sisters (who are deceased) to random men. So if they’re going to be sealed to someone in the next life, Mormons believe that has to be done in a temple. So how does that even happen?

I was just curious about a certain topic that wasn’t touched on much aside from the Mormon perspective. I know a lot more Christians in America have become way more accepting to members of the lgbtq community... even allowing them to get married in churches now. I also understand that many Baptist communities might have slightly differing doctrinal standpoints. My question is still this though. How do most Baptist’s feel about same sex relationships/marriages? If anyone happens to know or could point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful!

The Mormons have long since cooped Christian tenets... Belief in the triune God, God the Father, Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and the Holy Spirit. The Bible is the word of God The death, descent into hell, resurrection and ascension of Christ. The holiness of the Church and the communion of saints. Christ's second coming, the Day of Judgement and salvation of the faithful (not their works). and now twisting what is "Truth" ... Just so you know...Mormonism doesn't teach that you have to get a temple marriage to get into the celestial kingdom. It teaches that to receive "exaltation" and the highest degree of glory you have to receive the "new and everlasting covenant of marriage," which includes a temple sealing or "marriage." Mormonism also teaches that I am damned if I deny polygamy. 1 Verily, thus saith the Lord... as touching the principle and doctrine of... having many wives and concubines- 2 Behold, and lo, I am the Lord thy God, and will answer thee as touching this matter. 3 Therefore, prepare thy heart to receive and obey the instructions which I am about to give unto you; for all those who have this law revealed unto them must obey the same. 4 For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory. 5 For all who will have a blessing at my hands shall abide the law which was appointed for that blessing, and the conditions thereof, as were instituted from before the foundation of the world. 6 And as pertaining to the new and everlasting covenant, it was instituted for the fulness of my glory; and he that receiveth a fulness thereof must and shall abide the law, or he shall be damned, saith the Lord God. - Doctrine and Covenants, Section 132

@@angiehille4207Who is king over the earth? Jesus or Joseph? "On March 11, 1844, Joseph Smith established a secret organization called the Council of Fifty, in Nauvoo, Illinois, which was designed to carry out his plans for political empire. This theocratic-political kingdom or body of men met a number of times in Nauvoo before Smith's death on June 27, 1844.The goal of this theocracy was world government/ They further believed they would govern and rule the earth during the millennial reign of Christ. On April 11, 1844, the Council of Fifty installed Joseph Smith as king on earth, then two days later, “He [Smith] prophecied the entire overthrow of this nation in a few years.” This theocratic-political body believed they were receiving God's “law” for the whole earth. @@angiehille4207 um, king James didn't compile the books of the Bible. That was done many years earlier. King james is credited with amassing translators for an English translation. The Latin Vulgate by Jerome, and the Septuagint are other such translations into different languages that preceded the KJV. In fact the books were compiled around a thousand years before king James even lived. The Peshitta is an example where the books were compiled so early that they didn't even have Revelation in it, because it probably hadn't been written yet(around 90a.d.). Bible history and literary tradition is fascinating to me. Take care

Mormon women who do not marry "in this life" will be "provided" with husbands to make spirit babies for "in the next life" So, in effect the cult tells females they are incomplete as they are, get desperate so it make no difference who you marry just the male can take you to the temple to have babies for his kingdom, and a female's value lies in marriage and pro-creation! Their lives don’t really begin until they get married, and that everything else, including school, work, and faith, is preparatory. That their divinely ordained, primary-even sole-purpose for being on this earth is to bear and raise children. They shouldn’t worry about not finding a spouse now because they will be married in the afterlife! (As Ardis Parshall wryly put it, however well-intentioned that particular comment may be, it’s basically telling the single Latter-day Saint, “We have nothing for you here. You’re better off dead.”) That they’re single because they’re too selfish or picky. (If the stark demographic of 150 single women for every 100 single men doesn’t communicate the utter fallacy of the “selfish/picky” argument, I don’t think anything ever will.)

Definitely more of an emphasis on Jesus then Joseph in LDS life. However, we learn that Joseph is the greatest prophet ever and that he was basically perfect. It’s gross. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

Title: "I'm a born-again Christian who likes to critique other Christian sects that don't fall in line with my doctrine". The CES letter is authored by disgruntled Mormons who have an axe to grind. It comprises unreliable (unverifiable) third party source material, which purposefully portrays Mormon teachings out of context. Mormons, who feel guilty about wanting to renege on their moral commitments, use the CES Letter as a rationale to leave the church, because in reality they've adopted a “worldly-overview”, and the distortion of the CES allows them to “sin” without actually owning their decisions - if they can blame the church. Cognizant dissonance is patently sanctimonious, but that is the disingenuous world we live in. John Dehlin’s immature behavior sets the tone for his kabuki theatre, where departing Mormons lament over the grief of losing their close knit community, while framing their new morality as freedom from the cult. He became a Mormon critic after adopting feminist concepts that encourage an acceptance of sex outside of marriage and homo-sexuality, which by any constraint mocks the Christian Bible teachings and embodies the Anti-Christ, Anti-Family challenge of our time. Dehlin portrayed his disdain for Bible teachings through a doctrine of criticizing the leadership for not allowing women and the LBGTQ members to hold key administration and teaching positions in the church. When Dehlin was unceremoniously excommunicated for his condemnation of the Churches’ refusal to adopt his secular reforms, he became yet another enemy of Mormonism in its righteous endeavor to restore the family culture.

They say "it contains the fullness of the gospel." They constantly testify of it being true and Joseph Smith being a true prophet. What exactly is your point?
