I think the best investment is to spend your money on avoiding swirls rather than on expensive tools to remove them. I can afford Rupes. In fact, I can afford to own all the different variations of Rupes polishers and accessories. And I was going to buy at least the 15mm and one of their mini-polishers for small areas. But before pressing the order button, I just couldn't justify spending $800 on tools that I only use once every 2 years. I only do paint polish once every 2 years because my cars have no swirls. When I machine polish my cars, it is to remove water spots and very light marring rather than severe paint correction. So I decided to keep using my Porter Cable. I think the best investment is to spend your money on avoiding swirls rather than on expensive tools to remove them. Spend money on high quality wash mitts and dispose them when they become excessively worn or dirty, use high quality soap to increase lubricity to reduce swirl, and use a little more soap in your foam cannon and wash buckets than required so you get more foam to avoid scratches. Since we all wash our cars much more than we do machine polishes, we should invest in a good wall mount pressure washer that makes washing more enjoyable.

I was going to get the Harbor Freight polisher but I've changed my mind. I'm going after the Maxshine M8S. A little more expensive at $90.00 but I don't need to do any upgrades either.

I do high volume detailing, mostly full details. I would not work anymore without Rupes if I somehow had to give it up. That's how good it is. I use rotary also, but as far as DA goes, once more, I would not work without it. If you are not professional on the other hand I don't understand why would you even think about Rupes. :)

As a refinish tech, I learned how to buff on the good ol Dewalt rotary almost 20 years ago. Best bang for the buck, especially if your doing a 3 step process on a professional level. Old faithful will run until its on fire. If your new into the trade, be a man and get a Dewalt rotary.

You should do a comparison of the entry level Maxshine M8S to the Griott’s garage. Almost half the price and performs better.

Love the video.. I have the dewalt rotary and a rupes gear driven polisher. I find the dewalt is really good but spits polish and good for getting scratches out but it does leave holograms. The gear driven rupes is the best of both worlds.. I find it better than than a da and rotary it doesn't spit and does not leave holograms. Its safer on the paint. I think what people really need to understand you can only really polish the car so many times because of the clear coat and the polish you use. You don't need loads of compound either.. I think what people really need to know is more times you wash the surface of the car or have contact you are going to scratch it..

Hi I very much appreciate your willingness to offer advice. In a recent reply to a comment you recommended drying a car after washing to avoid water spots. This seems quite appropriate in places like Texas where it doesn't rain a lot, but what about places where it rains at least once every few days. There doesn't seem much point in drying a car after washing if it runs the risk of getting wet a few hours later. If I'm missing something, please enlighten me. (I'm obviously not thinking here of a professional detailler.) Thanks Philip

My question is whether you can change the back plate on the MaxShine? 6'" is pretty big for many areas. Will one need to purchase another polisher just so they can use a 2" or 3" pad?
@spencerunknown2438
@spencerunknown2438 5 лет назад
You can but it will be out of whack and vibrating to the hilt as you are meant to change counterweight for 3" ... Just put an adapter and 3" backing plate on a hand drill.. This is what I do for the sides of the car. DA polishers are only really good for finishing really, very slow in my opinion.
@UKSportsFan
@UKSportsFan 5 лет назад
Luke...piece of friendly advice: STAY CONSISTENT! Your credibility is at stake! While I appreciate your transparency and acknowledging your partnership with MaxShine....it was unnecessary and unprofessional for you to comment so negatively regarding the Griot's Garage DA polisher. You have bragged on it in the past and even made videos singing its praises. So to come along now...now that you've admitted you're associated with MaxShine...and say that the Griot's is "an entry level/retail grade/beginners polisher" that you would hardly recommend, vibrates and stalls a lot, and that you consider lower grade and is for timid people afraid of damaging their paint seems pretty insulting....not only to the polisher, but to people who you've told that it was a great product previously. Remember the past, and choose your words wisely.
@5jjt
@5jjt 5 лет назад
Well, Both polishers sell within $20 of each other, surprisingly. One would think the Griot's would be much cheaper, but it's not, according to the links to amazon in Luke's videos. The maxshine is similar to a 15mm throw from rupes, so would you recommend a griots over a rupes if they were the same price?

Hi. I just bought a Rubes 21es mark1, it vibrates alot, I don't know if that is normal? I got it for $160 used and I guess it's a ok price for a pro polisher. My 19 year old red car has never had a colorcorrection, so my question is what pads and liquids do you recommend me. I have never polish a car and lately watching you and Scott Dallas has opened a interest in detailing world. I find your tutorials wery informative and you learn quite a bit watching them. Thanks for sharing. // Jose
