Journey with me into the old town of Croom from the early 1900's in Hernando County, Florida. The area has a rich history and today is part of Croom Wildlife Management Area or Withlacoochee State Forest. You can read about some of the history here: floridatrailbl...
There are many trails and places to roam in this forest. It is important to note that metal detecting, digging and removing artifacts is prohibited and illegal on state and public lands. Please be respectful of the history that remains, thank you!

From a multigenerational native Floridian, thank you! I’ve swam that river in that specific area since I was a teen. We’ve camped and hikes many times. Our kids grew up enjoying this wonder of nature as well as many others. Keep up the awesome vids❤️

To be able to look into the future and see what our state will look like. Probably all those parks and and nature trails will be gone , thanks for saving our past,

I enjoyed your interaction with the kayakers about the old bridge. Always enjoy seeing Old Florida through your lens. Thanks for creating these videos.

🌴 I really love you doing these hikes! A lot of us, specially older folks, cannot get out and walk those long trails. Many many years ago a group of us prayed about the Rosewood incident. A true scar that happened in pioneer days… It was awful. That happens to be off the beaten path a bit taking the road that goes to Cedar Key east side of Highway 19. Maybe you could touch on that sometime in the future! Please be safe out there. It’s swampy! There are Florida panthers/wild boar. Not to mention our ever present skeeters, snakes & gators! Be safe! It’s a treat for us to watch you. 😉. Thank you for taking the time to do this for all of us! 🐇 💕👍🏽 🐸🦟🐊🐖 🦎🐍🐜

Hey Joe good work showing us the history in these places. You are on the Hernando side of the river across from iron bridge day use area. I had a geocache at that benchmark you found called "the benchmark" and up the trail where all the railroad iron is laid I had a geocache called "sanford and son" , both of those geocaches were from at least 15yrs ago. I have been stomping around these woods for 30yrs. Why didn't you show the old concrete water tower/guage near the benchmark? That is history also. And probably why the benchmark is placed there. The area you are in is known as iron bridge which was the crossing, and like you said there was a ferry know as pembertons ferry and the ferry master lived atop the hill on the sumter side. There used to be an old hand pump well there long ago. And the train trestle that crossed is know as "burnt bridge" because someone long ago burnt it down.

I grew up just outside of what is now called the Croom Motorycle Area. As we were actively using the park, back in the 70s and 80s, I think I know where the old rail line in your video is located. Needless to say, I could be wrong, so I was wondering if you wouldn't mind describing where the old rail line is relative to the motorcycle area? Thank you for creating this wonderful video.

You play an important role introducing people into hiking and seeing there is a lot out here and more involved the better chance we can keep it. Making own history.

I love how you emphasis on "time standing still". I wish a lot more people watch & listen to your channel ESPECIALLY the ones who want to over develope what little areas we have left of nature!!! You really can learn so much from what's left. LOVE the "bench marker". I take a photo of ALL the ones I find. Also look for the date too!! Thanks for the walk through history. 🖐️

Thanks for sharing. Such a beautiful area. Florida has such amazing wilderness areas that many don't even get to see and explore. Glad to see you are growing your RU-vid brand. Have you explored areas to the south of Pasco and Polk counties? I know the areas you frequent are close and convenient to you. I remember seeing some old cemeteries that were preserved around the phosphate mines in southern Polk and Hardee counties. One old area was in Homeland , Florida just south of Bartow. Keep up the good work!

WOW, You inspire Me to want to go explore like You are doing. I'm limited to doing certain thing's for health reasons but Walking would not be one of them. Thank You Very Much for Your Video's, they bring Life back into My Heart!! Any Suggestions on Hiking Safely?? Obviously the Cooler Weather will make Hiking easier for Me, I use to walk in the woods in My younger day's but eventually I got away from it due to the Cares of the World. I need to have something to do with the kid's to get THEM Outdoors too and Your Video's have become a Wonderful Reason to do so! Thank You for All You are doing in telling People like myself the History that's all around Us!!

I was hiking that same area today and had a question. There was a whole bunch of trees that were painted blue (not counting the trail blazes). Do you know what those are? They seems so haphazard and sloppy, and not like any official markings. Keep up the great videos.

You should have a product line shirts and hats with your logo and Florida maybe adding the names of these places. Bright shirts and hats for visibility is a good idea. An online store is dirt cheap and easy. Make your merchandise very high quality People want to pay for nice apparel no one offers much.

Well I grew up in Central Florida, a preacher's kid, running barefoot through the swamp. I didn't know how good I had it I thought the place was just a dump. You know the times that I piss away, are now just memories that I've got. I wish I had them back again and I think about that a lot. I got the down and out, wish I had a time machine, and I want to go back blues. I've been a playin' this blues song to the "Steamroller" riff, since 1972. I love your journeys Trailblazer Do you sell "T" shirts? How can I help you continue?
