My cousin Marc goes fluking around the tristate area with some like minded anglers - Alex, Max, and Eric - then back to some old stomping grounds with Keith and Dave. Single jig + Jerk Shad works everywhere!

This is by far the most informative fishing channels I came across in the recent years. I followed your technique and caught so many of them from the surf that including three keepers under 3 hours of fishing. Thanks for sharing your techniques and keep the videos coming 🔥🔥🔥

Glad you guys are having fun. The bite here by me on Long Island hasn’t been that great. Hopefully it’ll turn on next month. By the way, the 9’6 Clarus steel head rod is working out pretty good with 1/4 to 5/8 oz jig heads. Just wish it was a tad bit stiffer. Hoggy makes some nice 1/4 oz long shank jig heads that work well with 6-7” plastics.

You definitely want the M and not the H, the 7'6 Tatula Elite would make a great shore fluking rod too.

Question: what adjustments do you make ( if any ) if your fishing for fluke from a pier that has current ?
@shore-moneyfishing1939
@shore-moneyfishing1939 3 года назад
Usually a 3/8oz or 1/2oz fished with a jerkshad can handle moderate currents without any issues. If the current is heavy then you have to cast up current.

Got any suggestions on how to deal with sea grass? a few days ago I went and every cast seemed to be full of it. Had more luck drowning crabs than jigging.
@shore-moneyfishing1939

Those are tough conditions. Fish light enough of a jig, cast up-current and hope for the best.

What’s your keeper to short ratio from the surf? I’m fishing a 19” limit and it’s probably close to 20:1 for me. From the kayak it’s probably closer to 10:1, although at this point in the season the surf is far more productive.
@shore-moneyfishing1939
@shore-moneyfishing1939 3 года назад
Probably 10:1 using that 19" rule.
@jasrivas
@jasrivas 3 года назад
i'm on long island and i'm also getting 20:1
@vlcthefish
@vlcthefish 3 года назад
@@jasrivas For a lot of years I used to be 75:1 using killies from the shore and that was with 18" limit. I think these larger baits are helping a lot though this year is insane with the size of the fluke I am seeing in NJ. Not joking this might the largest sizes I've seen in 30 years of fishing fluke.
@idkwhattouseforname
@idkwhattouseforname 3 года назад
Thanks for input y’all. 10:1 sounds great, 20:1 can be depressing sometimes.
@jasrivas
@jasrivas 3 года назад
@@idkwhattouseforname i was out today and i notice that i catch less with the 6 inch jerk shad but more keepers out of 7 fish i got 1 keeper. I think when i switch to the 5 inch it more like 20:1 but when i go to the 6 inch it might be closer to 10:1 maybe try bigger bait to cull the bigger ones. I think i going to stick with the 6inch from now on.

How do you deal with the wind blowing perpendicular to your line?
@shore-moneyfishing1939
@shore-moneyfishing1939 3 года назад
If you are dealing with a stiff cross wind, the best way is to cast into it. Fluke especially along the surf are often found no farther from the lip.

@@rbuenafe100 Thank you! So the rod Marc is using the Olympic Graphite Leader Vigore 74M - I got it shipped from Japan last year and it is almost impossible to source now. I highly recommend the Daiwa line of 7'6MML rods for this application - they make them from the Tatula/Kage line ($180ish), the Tatula Elite ($300ish with AGS guides), and the Steez Compile X AGS ($550). Perfect length and tip action to get the job done, obviously the higher end models will be lighter and more sensitive but the Tatula/Kage will do very, very well for fluke too.
