Im stumped. If i was on that jury, more specifically the second jury, i couldn't find him guilty. They brought up so much more queationable stuff, that obviously should've been in the first trial. It's always the husband, until it's not.
I'm from New Zealand and just wanted to say, well done on pronouncing all the town names!!! Despite the grim case, I loved hearing my little country being mentioned! :) Thanks for covering this case!
This was so much incompetence!! Investigators figured since it’s USUALLY the husband, why bother investigating anyone else! This case is really sickening.
I am so tired of people judging one's grief by how they act. Some have a stoice or numb response. Some are hysterical. Either way you are damned if you do or don't.
I hate this too. Human emotion is so widely complex. Circumstances to each death (ie elderly yoi know it's coming so the chance of extreme shock right away is lesser. Unexpected death is going to add so much more emotion in that instance) what's the stress level in the person's life at that moment of finding out their loved one died. That will play a role. Mental illness: do they already have any to where regular stress and trauma they can't cope with or regulate let alone something like this. Sorry that was a long way to say "i agree" 😅
I had a numb response at my grandpas funeral. And all my family said was I’m proud of you for being strong for your mom and sister. But truth is I was traumatized from seeing him die.
My cousin buried her son Saturday (he was hit by a train) she was fine but when that casket went in the ground she lost in please keep my cousin in your prayers
I'm a pretty loud, gregarious person but when I get upset everyone knows but when my daddy died, and I was a daddies girl through and through so it was the worst day of my life, I was silent. I wouldnt communicate with anyone to the point the nurses who were washing dad were so concerned they phoned the Dr because they were expecting me to be hysterical and I wasn't I was numb and so in shock I couldn't speak so I don't ever judge anyone on how they react especially in a horrific tragedy like this.
Same! I’m in Criminal Justice and the hair, the DNA, and so many other pieces of evidence that either weren’t tested or the tests were flawed. I have way more questions than answers and that’s a red flag in any case.
I am having an awful week.. a crazy mom from my son's school room me to court bc my son dropped his friend phone by accident and got a tiny crack... money spent. Then my car flooded... money spent. Then i had a medical episode yestrrday and missed my mother's 60th bday and im scared. I also have court for a bad desicion i made many months ago. Again, scared. These videos help me focus on something else with a likeminded community. Even though obviously watching won't solve my problems.. I appreciate you Annie and all of you watching and commenting ❤ (prayers are welcome. Im not one to ask but I need strength rn) thank you 🙏🏻
This woman would rather pay for a lawyer than just fix her kids screen? Ridiculous! Some people need to grow up!! I'm having a bad time too. Just spread my mom's ashes and work has been nuts. Hang in there! I watch these videos to detach too. ❤
Just remember, all the crap life throws at us..only makes us stronger. IKR? Not like that helps crap but sometimes thats all I myself can find comfort in when sh*t hits the fan. You GOT this! Im wishing you both the absolute best. 💗
Court sucks. I struggled with substance abuse for years (I was essentially suicidal I know it now) and got a DWI… at the time I wasn’t financially able nor mentally able to do what was necessary and I still have the charge. Just consider the options and do what’s best and try not to let it stay on your record if you can. Just sucks cause I feel it’s a mark of my past on me now, but considering everything I’m lucky af. I didn’t hurt or damage anything believe it or not, and that’s what I’m most thankful for. I’m sober now and learning to love myself at 31… you got this I know money is an evil necessity and that makes shit hard but it comes and goes and you can make it through this! Easier said than done I know, but just know if anyone is judging you, that cause they have been lucky enough not to get in trouble yet. LUCK, that’s it. Everyone has broken the law. 🤷♀️ there’s obviously some things that are worse and I’m like eh… but me with a DWI I can’t judge much, cause that’s pretty bad in some peoples eyes. But we aren’t murderers and we actually want to be better, and that’s super huge lol!
this reminds me so much of a case here in the US. I don't remember the names but it was a father who was away from his home when his wife and kids were murdered. Despite having a solid alibi, MULTIPLE witnesses to back up his alibi, zero motive, and the fact that there was a known murderer who had escaped custody in the area the husband was found guilty multiple times. It was wild!
How the hell a jury ignores unknown DNA under fingernails or a wad of unknown hair in a victim's hand is unbelievable. I don't know if he's guilty or not but those factors alone are enough "reasonable doubt".
I'm from NZ and it was bizarre how there was so much media coverage before the trial. Thus is not the norm. LE usually don't release a lot of details regardless of the viciousness of the crime. Even the convicted sometimes get name suppression. He had a trial by public opinion before it even got to trial. LE never investigated anyone else despite the evidence that pointed to someone else The timeline of events LE released kept changing. There is no way he could make it back from where he was to his home with the TOD they first gave. Even then the escort he hired blew their timeline to bits. So they changed it We have corrupt cops just like America. FOIA requests are still denied even though this case is closed and all appeals are exhausted. This happens a lot in NZ when LE don't want the public to learn about the corruption. In non corrupt cases FOIA requests are forth coming. Someone got away with it. Mark's brother inlaw should have been the prime suspect.
@@emmasanders6226. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THIS INVESTIGATION WAS SO FULL OF CONSPIRACIES BECAUSE THE POLICE DIDN'T WANT TO GET OFF OF THEIR LAZY ASS AND DO A MORE THOROUGH, PROFESSIONAL INVESTIGATION. HER BROTHER, IS THE ONE WHO DONE THIS AND MARK NOT ONLY LOST HIS, WIFE, & HIS PRECIOUS CHILD. HE'S LOST EVERYTHING, THOSE 2 MOST IMPORTANT ONE'S WERE HIS FAMILY. BUT, HE LOST HIS HOME, HIS CAR, HIS LIFESTYLE WHEN ALL HE WAS DOING TO MAKE A LIVING FOR HIS FAMILY, PLUS THE 13 YEAR'S ALREADY WITHOUT THEM AND THE MEMORIES THAT THEY NEVER GOT TO MAKE. AN INNOCENT MAN IS IN PRISON BECAUSE HE WAS THE POLICES SLAM DUNK, CASE CLOSED. TO GET IT OVER AND DONE WITH. THAT EVIDENCE THAT WASN'T GIVEN TO THE DEFENSE TEAM, & WOULD HAVE BEEN THE MISSING PUZZLES PIECES OF MARK'S CASE⁉️😳🤨💔🙏✝️😭
This is the first case you’ve covered where I truly don’t know which direction I feel about the verdicts. Can I see him being guilty? Absolutely. But at the same time there is so much evidence that was truly mishandled by law enforcement and there could absolutely be another person who did this. 🤯 Usually I feel very confident in my opinion on these cases and now I’m just like… huh 🤔
This is exactly how I feel. I know the police made up their minds right away.( Bc they've seen this a million times🙄) The evidence was mishandled and or non existent. What happened to the hair in the Mom's hand (not Mark's)? This is truly baffling to me . But what man could beat his own daughter to death? tldr- I have no idea who's guilty and I normally form an opinion easily.
I’m thinking the exact same thing!! Way too many flaws that don’t add up 100% I can see the husband being guilty, but isn’t it rare for a person to still profess their innocence after getting to the point where they are due to be released? There’s too many other possibilities to be sure Mark actually done this too. His conviction just doesn’t sit right with me!! I NEED that 100% guilty verdict coupled with the evidence to back it up!!! It’s very sad that Christine & Amber lost their lives, but if Mark is truly innocent, that’s really sad too!! Do you know if the hair Christine was holding was ever tested? If not, why? It feels that law enforcement just wanted to close the case & were too lazy to look into other possible avenues!! (Sorry, I’m a bit back & forth in my comment, it’s just my thought process)!! Very sad all round 😢
How in the world did they still find him guilty. The evidence shows that it should have been a mistral. I wonder how much they made from him being found guilty
I thought Mark was guilty until you mentioned the police found unidentified finger, palm and foot prints (not marks) that both Christine and Amber had a lot of defensive wounds & had unidentified male DNA under their finger nails (determined not to be marks) and Christine had a handful of hair (also not Marks) and that Christine’s brother Glenn who “found”them, had a large scratch on his nose, both Christine and ambers blood IN HIS freakin car and in HIS home, Glenn’s roommate suspecting him and searching through Glenn’s clothes, found a bloody towel and clothes the same day the girls were murdered. So I think it was Glenn.
Same! Until the information for the second trial was shared I was questioning the timeline, but still thought he did it and now I don’t think he’s guilty at all. I could not have found him guilty with that information.
God loves you so so much 🫶🩷🩷 the bad news is that We have all sinned by breaking His commandments (worshiping other false gods, making idols, taking the Lords name in vain, not keeping the Sabbath, dishonoring parents, murder, adultery, stealing, lying, coveting, sexual immorality, fornication, and more.) Sin is the reason we die and it is makes us deserving of punishment in hell. God sent Jesus His Son, who is One with God, so that we can be saved through Him. Jesus died on a cross and was treated terribly. He died to pay for our sins in our place. Jesus is sinless, He gave Himself as a sacrifice for us. Jesus rose from the dead on the third day, defeating death 🙌 John 3:16 in the Bible says “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” If anyone repents and places their faith in Jesus, they will be saved 🙏 repent means to have a change of mind; we realize we have done evil against God, which leads to turning away from sin and turning to Jesus ✝️ the Bible is Gods word; Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John have Jesus’s teachings on how to follow Him, His amazing miracles, the death He dies to save us through Him, and His resurrection 💕 God bless you!
WTH? It sounds like soooo, So much evidence against Christine's brother😳😳😳! I mean, did they test all the blood from his car to see if it matched the victims? Did they test the handful of hair in Christine's hand? Did they test the blood Christine's brother's roommate saw in their apartment the day after the murders??? I am beyond STUNNED.
Glen seems guilty…. Like wtf is all that blood evidence n the grooming n dna under nails n blood in his car n hair in there fist n scratch in his nose ????
I don't get this case either even if Mark was guilty there is not enough evidence to convict beyond a shadow of a doubt. Realistically I don't believe it's some random job. I do think it was either Mark or Glen and it's very possible Mark might be guilty but there is also a lot of evidence pointing toward Glen as well. If the police didn't test the hairs found at the scene then there stupid.
Annie, I want to tell u that you rock! I'm so glad I found your channel this year. You always tell the victims complete stories. I appreciate that. I'm sure the victim's families do too. Every time I come across anyone reporting on true crimes I tell them about your channel. There r some people I follow on RU-vid and most of them have touched on the same stories u do deep dives on none of them report the stories like you. I always tell them to check out your channel so they can have all the info. Thank you for not letting all the victim's stories be forgotten
@@angelang222 New Zealand is not known for giving fair sentences, however I definitely have questions about his being proven guilty when there are so many unanswered questions
I saw something about New Zealand saying it is the number one place to live. They treat people in poverty very well, they're giving money as well as medical care. I think the us only gives help for food and medical care in pregnancy. Anyway, everything I've heard about New Zealand is the bee's knees❤ I wonder how their law system and prosecutors work. We've seen the England seems to prosecute cases the same as the United States Off topic, I'm shocked that that tiny little house needed a house cleaner.. Especially when you're in debt and you don't have any prospects for improving the debt. The little girl looks to be old enough to be in school and that is an opportunity for mommy to clean. I don't know, I probably shouldn't judge. I grew up with me and saw my mother fire them because of how she felt they treated her furniture LOL I've hired people here and there to help me at times so I don't have a problem with people hiring cleaners. I just can't understand why someone would hire one when you're in debt out the ears!
Omfg! I’ve been waiting for you to do an nz case for so long! I’m from Palmerston North!! He 100000% did it. Please cover Sophie Elliot or David Bain! The David Bain case is much more controversial in nz than this ever was. I’m from nz and everyone wants Lundy behind bars. The controversy around David Bain is ongoing and never ending. I’m so so happy you’re covering this!!
Funny that we all have our doubts, but the people of nz ALL want him behind bars. Could the police have just listened to the people rather than the evidence? Convict, so they don't upset the people?
If he is guilty, he didn’t do it directly. The police and prosecutors did a half-assed investigation. Justice wasn’t served. And if he is innocent, they created new victims (him and his loved ones).
I do think it was either Mark or Glen and that time will tell I think if it was Glen. I say this because if it was Glen then a crime that brutal of a mother and young daughter the person will definitely repeat if there still out there. If it was Mark guilty or innocent there wasn't enough evidence to prove he did it for sure.
Annie. I just want to tell you how much Iove your channel. I subscribed during 2020 and I have loved seeing you grow! You are such a light in the true crime community. I’m so proud of how you present cases. Thank you so much for working so hard for us that wait for your posts!
@@Elaine-vh9nu I wonder if NZ legal standards are different than US? I watch a lot (too much probably) British criminal dramas to say our system seems equivalent to theirs. Maybe we just don’t know enough about NZ’s justice system. Maybe “Meh, I saw how he acted at the memorial service. He sounds guilty to me” is enough.
@@brendatomlinsonthat's a good point, I wonder what New Zealand law looks like. Was in New Zealand voted the best place to live because they treat people in poverty better than any other country. People in poverty get money and medical Care. So I've always heard it has a low crime rate. So maybe they're not prepared for things like this.
I don't agree with the second guilty verdict...there was WAY too much evidence that puts others at the forefront of the suspect list. Glenn being number one. I'm 49 minutes in.
I find it sad that there are very few comments about this case below. I also find it very sad that so many "what ifs" were left unanswered about this case. No one did a fingerprint analysis from the crime scene, and no one did a blood analysis of the blood found in Glenn's living area, just too many things that were never really addressed. I can't say if Mark was guilty, but I think once "The Crown" made a decision there was no turning back for them. This is how governments get around admitting they may have made a mistake.
It's typical , unfortunately. But " the Crown " being unwilling to back up and re evaluate the evidence is so normal to me. They cannot be wrong , in their minds they have to be correct every time. This case is infuriating!
@@LostME.24that's how it can be in any justice system , the US also , prosecutors only want to win , they r elected officials and they will use their wins as a campaign tool , Ofcourse there is always exceptions and a few that really do care that they r putting the guilty party in prison for the crime they committed and there r defense attorneys that victim blame and do some sneaky things for the clients because they want the win also , even though their is real die hard proof their client is guilty , it's a shame that only guilty people get convicted and never any innocent people and no guilty ever get away with the crimes they commit , but Ofcourse , it's not that way. U always hope that the people We trust in , the lawyers , the judges , the police , r all above board and honest but Ofcourse , they r not , I don't know who did what in this case but they should have tested everything , exploded every avenue, every single possibly thing and when they don't , how can they be right and how can We know for sure they get the guilty party r if they let a killer go free .
Thank you for introducing this case, I am from NZ and I live very close to the murder house. Everything about the case was and still is suspicious things never made sense to all of us here. Good to see its analysed again with fresh pair of eyes..❤
This is another frustrating case. It's seems way more likely that Glenn is the murderer than Mark, so I'm confused as to how Mark was convicted, but Glenn just walked free. What about all of the evidence against Glenn?! Was any of that investigated? Was Glenn even rightfully considered? Also, why was everyone was quick to turn on Mark? It seemed like people liked him & liked the 2 of them as a couple. It's all so confusing. There's too little info on Glenn. What's his history, etc. I'm definitely leaning more towards Glenn. 🤷♀️
Hysteria- people who have no Skills to rationalize. Shameful really. How many people in this world have been convicted or had absolutely horrific experiences including being beaten and murdered. So many people in this world - throughout history have demonstrated repeatedly that they have little common sense, have absolutely squashed intuition, poor memory recall and just plain any ability to actually think let alone critically. Shame really
He’s innocent! The timeline should be enough to prove that! But you don’t go from a normal guy to chopping your own child up in such a horrific torturous manner! If they’d been shot, I’d consider the possibility of him doing it but this was in rage. Also all the unidentified dna!
@@lilymaul3880Its not as simple as that. There is a lot that is not in the video. When Mark was found guilty, the defense went on a fishing expedition. Hense all the red herrings. As for the timeline, yes it can be done easily. I lived in Otaki at the time which is kinda in the middle of Palmerton North and Wellington. I worked in Wellington, and would often go to Palmerton North for a visit. Our speed limit was 100kmh. The defence said he would of had to drive at least 120kmph to do this in time. Well that is very possible. Most drivers speed here anyway. There are also short cuts you can take. I also do not know why it was said in the video that even the police could not do it in that time. Because the police did the trip and said it was easily done in that time. Also his petrol was almost on empty when he had just filled it up. I believe he was driving a Holden which is a big powerful car and does have a big fuel tank.
I love you are covering this case.. as a kiwi (from new zealand) its one that has always disturbed me as i live not far from where it took place..just very sad
Fellow kiwi here - I just read the Lundy chapters in Steven Braunias' book, Scene of the crime. I'm glad his appeals failed. Have you heard of the You Tube channel, Matter of Crime with Jenny Eastwood? I just discovered it, she's a New Zealander too.
Hey @annieelise & team, I’m listening late but something I just noticed-the sound-clip w/the NZ newscaster @38:55 announces the result of the 2015 trial a few mins before you reveal that there will be a 2015 trial. Not that it’s breaking news or anything(I wasn’t familiar w/this case), it just gives away the end while you’re still telling the story. This is a crazy one!! Thank you for all your hard work-you’re the best, bestie!!!❤

Please never change it! ❤ Thanks Annie for all of your new videos.. I binged every single video and podcast on your account over the last few months and every new video makes me so happy! You are the best best best true crime story teller!! ❤❤
I’m only 15 minutes in, I have never heard of this case and I have no idea how this turns out but I just have to say this… to me an ironclad rock solid alibi is something like being clocked in at work or somewhere across the country or on video somewhere. Being only an hour and a half away, it would very much be possible to make the drive home and then back. Again, I have no idea if Mark did that, I’m just speaking generally when I say I really wish that law enforcement would stop accepting alibis so easily.
The possibility of the brother SAing his sister could explain why Mark and Christine’s xes life was not good, but the affection was still there. She could have been having a hard time getting there with him due to the trauma, and could very well have hid it.
If New Zealand's justice system works like ours as in "beyond a reasonable doubt" I don't believe the State/Crown met its burden. Possibly, by pushing the envelope they squeaked by on the first trial, but absolutely not the second trial. There was too much additional evidence that was not explained, nor tested. How did they just let this slide? I'm baffled.
Nice!! Me too Annie!! I loved her and it was so weird.. no one even talked about it!! I heard the 911 call tho.. her mother was beside herself.. so many questions tho
@@mnmom723 I read it as the op talking to Annie, then the comment saying me too, Annie, was meant to convey that she also hoped Annie would cover it, not that she thought she was replying to Annie. Hope that helps.
SO much exculpatory evidence! I was waiting for a not guilty verdict, for Mark to sue everyone and for the brother to be arrested. Unfortunately, it’s one of those cases where they cannot admit they made a mistake. 😔
Okay miss annie, you here and see things that we definitely don't. You think you look bad sometimes or sound bad sometimes and me definitely don't see it. You're always on point all the time 🩷

Glad to hear you have covered a case all the way in NZ! I would be so interested if you covered the David Bain case as that was huge and very polarising.
31:14 if he drove that fast that far and didn’t get pulled over then the policing of that whole stretch of road super sucks and during rush hour? And his sweat and dna woulda been on them bc he couldn’t have done all that and not sweat his az off then ran while in full jumpsuit without needing to stop and have a heart attack first - idk it’s very controversial. I hadn’t heard of this case before but this is def a good one. I can’t imagine him having done this and not having a complete mental break down after Having actually off’d his child and wife himself would take a toll on his mind and he would eventually wanna off himself if he was not ever the type to have done any amount of harm in life or hadn’t ever been traumatized himself. I’m up in the air on it
I'm in New Zealand and I remember when this happened. The cops may have messed up a lot in the case; but Mark is so, so fake. Update: After watching this I didn't know about the clump of hair in Christine's hand. Although wigs can be made with real hair. With the information in this video I still think Mark is fake. He made a lot of noise at the funeral, but there were no tears. I think the way he was helped to his car was all for show.
It’s scary that evidence could be so screwed up in such an important case!! It’s scary because anyone of us could be in a situation like this… R.I.P to victims
Dear Annie Elise, appreciation post for all your cases coverage, I think I saw them all now! 😮 Addicted. What a voice ! Thank you ❤️. And I would add, from the beam advertising, you look really good with no make up. See you soon 🎉
Another person's hair in the victim's hand AND unidentified DNA under the victim's fingernails? One question...what is wrong with New Zealand jurors?! They need to do genetic genealogy on the hair and unidentified DNA.
Why wouldn’t the police test Glens DNA against the DNA found under the fingernails and the hair in Christine’s hand? Surely that would rule him out or confirm suspicions?
Annie is here working OT for us omg girl I LOVE this daily content. I know this is your job but thank you for the extra mile. I hope all of this ( that looks like hard work af) has good benefits for you 😊
I wonder if the brother knew about the life insurance change and used that opportunity to frame the husband? kinda unbelievable that someone would try to commit murder right after changing policies knowing the police would see that as motive but maybe he thought he could get away with it if he had a good enough alibi? I only hope the police throughly investigated all suspects before deciding
I get not guilty vibes. Too much that just doesn't quite fit. The drive time, the additional suspects not investigated, the questionable at best testing. What a shame. I think the brother was the likely culprit. Even if it means staying in jail he has not fessed up to anything. If he were the narcissist they claim he would be looking out for number 1 at this point. Maybe if he is finally parolled he can work to prove who actually murdered his family. The no sex thing is not an indicator of a faulty marriage. Not the norm, but not as uncommon as you might think.
Yes, sexless marriages do not always mean a bad marriage. The last few years of my husband's life, we very rarely had sex because of his health issues but that didn't mean we didn't show physical affection in other ways. He was still the best, most loving husband ever. ❤
IF the hair doesn’t have a follicle it is useless for DNA, BUT the DNA under their fingernails should be looked into way better. This case really is baffling. Only Mark really knows if he is guilty or not.
I already think Mark did it @20 minutes in. I didn't write too much but I also wanted to tell you thank you for all your hard work and dedication and believe me it doesn't go unnoticed. I lived a 5 minute walk from the home when this happened. I will never forget after the crime seeing the windows of the house blacked out and the swing and slide outside the house, could have been for up to a year. Also I travelled the Paekakariki hill often at night to Upper Hutt hospital near Petone for work as a nurse. It’s a very windy hill that over looks the ocean at its peck and it’s about a 810 foot drop, very dark and quite spooky at night. A person rang up on the night of the murder who was travelling over the Paekakariki hill with 5 other cars travelling the same through the windy hills in the Palmerston North direction, suddenly a car came out of no where and past all the cars on the hill at a crazy speed which completely freaked this man out. He tried to ring our traffic officers on *555 to report this instantly but because he was out of range the call didn’t go through until he was at the bottom of the hill, and by then it was too late. This was brought up in court I believe but not used. The Lundys I believe were involved in theatre and performing. I think he’s guilty
This is my hometown! I never thought I’d hear a case from all the way over here get discussed by channels like yours but I’ve always, always wanted to hear the opinions of outside perspectives, the investigation left more questions than it ever did answers.
