It's such a pleasure for me (ISTJ) to see Si described so well, it's very clear that you really own it, Josh. But of course, all of your analogies are great. Thank you for sharing this vivid criativity.

24:16 As Joyce mentioned that ROM/RAM analogy in the beginning I was immediately intrigued. On the one hand I'm a computer person so that's speaking my language and on the other hand hearing that coming from an INFP was unexpected. But at that moment I couldn't quite wrap my Ti around it because I was thinking in the literary terms and dismissed the idea that my Ti and Ni were "read only" which would also contradict the other concept of the introverted functions being (mental) memory. But seeing it this way - RAM as volatile and ROM as non volatile memory - it suddenly makes so much sense! Brilliant indeed as Joyce was saying. Now I only have to find a way to merge this concept with my mental image of my Ti being the CPU and Ni being an intuition (or quantum?) coprocessor. Maybe the memory part can be their respective BIOS or firmware chips. RAM and Se are an easy match: every good IO needs its cache. However I don't have a good computer analogy for my Fe yet. How about a very flakey network connection? I need to think more about that …

I only wish this video was an hour and 27 minutes, and not 27 minutes! I agree with a few other commenters. Josh's presence is incredibly soothing. The tone of his voice, his delivery, the flowing hand gestures, and it's all natural and authentic. The concepts he presents are super interesting. I agree with Josh also, you are the main course, I do love how at various points you do explain the concepts in an explanatory way, which is also important and very helpful for those still trying to learn MBTI. I would love to see live Q and A with you and Josh sometime?

When Joyce talks about the flavours of her food because of he se and how its strong. I have a unhealthy amount of salt but mainly vinegar on my chips (Fries for the Americans.) When you go to a chippy and get a cone of chips and theres vinegar at the bottom I’ll drink it like I know it’s wierd but it’s not really... 🤫

I have notice that most INFP's have Enneagram 4 like myself . My Enneagram Tritype is 486 in which some times i sound and act like an Enneagram 8 which maybe thinking i am an ENFP instead of INFP . I do have a very strong emotional memory . Anything can trigger me to look into my past like it was yesterday .
@JosiahMcCarthy
@JosiahMcCarthy 3 года назад
Mm, yes, Fi seems very aligned to enneagram 4 in general. For me, on the whole, 4 only fits me so well (I'd use the tritype 954 actually), but I like to reference it sort of as a shortcut to describe myself in a given situation where its aspects are relevant.

Loved this! Josh is so soothing to listen to! As I’m learning, my mind is stimulated, while my body remains relaxed-a perfect combo. It’s like being in a MEDITATIVE state. ✨ My mind tends to default to using computer analogies, as well (lots of parallels...gardening has a lot of analogies & metaphors, ,too), and as an Ni user, I’ve compared Ne users as having RAM, while I had ROM, since I’m always storing more and more info into my database, and they’re just working in real-time and wiping their memory clean afterwards. Having grown up pre-Internet, I simply had to figure out pretty much everything for myself, since there was no other resource to turn to for answers. As a female, I didn’t know what kinds of job options were available to me, so I sought out employment that was suited to Ne & Se doms. My fave minimum wage job was as a stock person, where I’d get to spend 4 - 8 hrs by myself, listening to music, working w/ my hands and being in my head-I NEVER run out of thoughts, so it was always fun. No one else in the retail clothing store could relate, since they were all F’s and also needed to be around other humans. My worst jobs were as telemarketer, receptionist, and waitress (NO SURPRISE...lol). Glad I got to experience them for myself, though, because it gives me a lot of perspective. Really effective empathy exercise. I just like trying most things, anyway, as long as I’m not able to predict the outcome, outright (like if I were to sample heroin or cocaine). It’s fun being a novelty junkie..there’s always something new to try.

Wow, so you're an INTJ, I take it? Apparently that's a thing, especially for female INTJs, taking a painfully public-facing job to work on that Fe that is so expected of them as women. I'm impressed when I see it. I also like to try out uncomfortable things, but sometimes it takes a kick in the pants for me to actually get up and do it! Thank you for sharing!

As an INFP I am definitely an "aesthetic minimalist", so my clothing is very simple, all neutrals, paired back; and so is my home. I love the clean lines and calm and I feel that its much more visually powerful. Whereas, like Josh says, when I have a conversation I can easily get off topic as I keep bringing in more references and expanding out. Maybe a conversational maximalist? :)

OMG! This was a wonderful conversation. I have (Si-Ne) as my middle perceiving functions. I like to zone in one a concept first from experience and then find ways to branch out into new experiences once I'm comfortable. With my Si, I definitely like to keep track of my historical experiences and compare to what's happening now. I'll say things like "I don't remember it snowing at this time, compared to last year". I'm also very vocal about my favourite foods and restaurants. I'll rave about these things, and get somewhat dissapointed if they don't feel the same way I do Great conversation Joyce! 👏👏👏 - ESFJ

Thank you Joyce for this video.Wow Josh. So many things that you touched on for me INFP. I have decades of agricultural notes. I hope that someone will appreciate them, and that it provides helpful guidance. Nothing worth doing can be completed in one’s lifetime. Ultimately it is for the tribe, though I never consulted them if they needed it! And in my landscape design work, it definitely feels as though I am making filigree. Layer upon layer. Planning for the daily, and seasonal change of characters, and multiplicity of purposes. I have always loved that word, “filigree”.

17:08 "… even if they might be disgust… not the most ideal." Spoken like a true Se user. 😂 There's a limit to what kind of "food" I'm gonna try but I have absolutely no qualms about mixing known (or assumed) good food together just to find out how it tastes.

If all introverted functions are memory than surely introverts have better memories than extroverts.

12:22 That's very interesting. I always wondered why I remember and recognize people in a rather abstract way, often even without associating their name to that abstract image (which can be a problem in itself). I guess the concept of those people is stored primarily in my Ni. That means if I don't see a person I can't really describe them, but when I see or hear them all that Se detail subconsciously counjures up the corresponding Ni image. [With see and hear I don't necessarily only mean how they look or how their voice sounds like, but also how they move, how much or loud they talk and other more or less subtle aspects.] That's probably also why it takes a while before I start to remember or recognize new people I've met. It takes time for the Ni concept that's representing that person to form and to stand out from the Ni concept(s) of people in general. But on the other hand that also has to be part of the cause why whe ISTPs are so adept and adaptable at working with technical systems like computers. We don't remember the Si details much but rather the underlying rules and concepts with our Ti and Ni.

Just to add something to the conversation, I've noticed higher functions tend to be more flexible (probably because we try to apply them to everything), and lower functions, especially the inferior, have an on-off/all-or-nothing quality. Like, you clearly had a point you wanted to make with this video, but you were able to pick out other themes that popped up. Contrast that with my father with low Ni: if he thinks something has a point, it has ONE POINT and he'll apply that to multiple things even where it doesn't really make sense. Or your low Se, you need ALL THE SAUCES, even when some restraint would be better. Someone with higher Se might put all the spicy sauces on, but not the others because they won't add to the spicy experience.

This is why mbti is nothing like astrology
@leogrrrl5876

I encourage a second look. Astrology has such an ancient history across many cultures, & is actually very intricate, detailed & time consuming to do. I've been learning about it since I was ten (I'm almost forty now), & I still haven't learned everything there is to know. ...& an interesting fact that many MBTI users don't know- Is that Jung consulted the astrology charts of his patients for more insight, so we really don't know how much it ended up influencing his ideas & concept of psychological types.

@@leogrrrl5876 How would you suggest one to start studying astrology more in-depth? I only know so far off the 3 main signs, sun moon & ascendant, that supposedly have the most effect in your life, and that the time of year and positions of cosmic bodies (planets, stars) have some sort of effect in relation to your signs and "chart". Just genuinely curious.
@leogrrrl5876
@leogrrrl5876 3 года назад
@@era1442 If you know your birth time, that can be inputted into an online chart program that will allow you to know not only the signs of the planets & angles but the houses as well. I suggest finding out next the positions of your North & South Node (SN is directly across from NN if not indicated); Midheaven & IC (again, IC is directly across from Midheaven) & Chiron. These let you know not only where you have been, but where you are going. & Chiron tells you about your wounding. Which you may end up struggling with throughout life, but you will be able to help others with it because you understand the pain of it so well. (Check out the mythology behind Chiron, the wounded healer).
@leogrrrl5876
@leogrrrl5876 3 года назад
@@era1442 As a general rule, read horoscopes with your ascendant sign- It will then probably make much more sense. & you can try a website (like this one- thecosmictides.wordpress.com/) to read about the daily transits. **Even if you don't do the others, check out Jan Spiller's book 'Astrology For The Soul.' It's a good resource to learn about the Nodes.
