It's a shame this man clearly cares for Ezra, he tried to help her the best he could but she's an idiot. You could tell he was happy to have her staying with him. And took her keys because her insurance was expired and didn't want her to put herself in a disadvantageous situation. But she really wanted revenge on Alex for something utterly stupid and completely her fault. How did she think killing Alex was going fix things with Jason by playing the victim afterwards, he was literally the first person she asked for at the hospital. What a total narcissist
@RLFinTX
@RLFinTX Год назад
I’m just now watching this case, but why did she want revenge on Alex?
@hilriekemp
@hilriekemp Год назад
@@RLFinTX because he wouldn't go along with her false sexual assault claims against her ex boyfriends friend. Causing her ex boyfriend to end up breaking up with him as a result. She had consensual sex with all 3 men and she was with all of them at the same time Jason (her actually boyfriend), Alex (her friend she met at a coffee shop she regularly went to) and Jason's good friend. Jason found out she was cheating on him with all 2 other men and confronted them. And he broke up with her as a result, she put all the blame on Alex for Jason breaking up with her. And in that rage she killed Alex, then tried to act like he was trying to attack and sexually abuse her. In some twisted sick way she was trying to use killing Alex as a way to get back with Jason. By trying to garner sympathy from him for the whole ordeal. Alex was just a guy who got caught up in the middle of it all and because he was honest got killed for it. She was an extremely immature and irrational person, granted she was only 19/20 at the time but that's still no excuse.

I can’t help but feel for Joshane. I get it, here in RU-vid comment land, people only ever focus on slamming the defendant because they already know what happens. But, at that moment, Joshane was testifying against his own daughter whom he loved and - whether we like it or not - at that moment, Ezra was considered innocent. RU-vid commenters don’t understand that concept - innocent until proven otherwise. If a RU-vid commenters daughter came up to that RU-vid commenter and said she was assaulted, RU-vid commenter would likely believe her. Right? Same for Joshane. I hope Joshane has progressed from this. He seems a down to earth guy. From the look on Ezra’s face, she knows she has disappointed her father.

What makes me so sad is that Ezra also implied her adoptive father was abusive. I don't know why people bother with being difficult on the stand, you just make things worse. The prosecution asks if he hid the keys, he says he put them on a shelf as if they weren't hidden. When asked if he specifically told her not to drive, he said yes but she's an adult and she can drive. So he banned her, but didn't ban her. Then minutes later he admits to being angry she drove... He was handed a transcription of exactly what he said to the cops and still wouldn't admit that he lied, telling them she didn't have a knife. Then on cross he spins around and happily admits to the defense that he gave her a knife for protection. Now I don't trust or believe you Mr Karlen, neither about the knife or the once-per-month drinking. She took the knife he gave her and literally drove it through Alex's skull, I wonder if he feels even a little guilty about that. Also, this defense attorney is unbearable, arguing with the judge because he wants to ask 50 questions about how many guns he has, where they are, what they smell/taste like, etc just to say they were available to her. She knew that would be dumb. Plus, a knife is an incredibly personal weapon, you're right up against them, stabbing multiple times, covered in their blood, no physical (and emotional) distance that a gun affords you. Just makes her that much crazier, and dad here gets credit for raising such a psycho.

(9:40 - 9:50) Regarding, "she's an adult" when trying to justify her being gone all night instead of the responsibility (like an adult) & courtesy of lettimg her dad know didn't help the defense. Then moments later discussing hiding the car keys, forbidding her to drive the car, and her "not obeying her dad," finding and taking the keys and car, (driving the car without insurance is not a responsible adult thing to do, and careless of others), neglecting to be home to pick up the younger child (her younger brother) from the bus stop because dad is heavily drinking at a bar playing a Darts "tournament," REALLY does not help the defense. 29:00 Why does the defense get "to lead" and make assumptions, implications, opinions, and testify for the witness regarding his alcohol consumption (being heavily intoxicated that day, and regularly consuming alcohol ("1 or 2 beers a month") is still regular consumption of alcohol. But trying to minimize the amout to "1 OR 2 beers a month" will cause people to assume its actually more than that. And defense attorney asserting and trying to justify that he got drunk that day because he was under stress. The witness never said that. 30:00 -- "Might have exaggerated some of your thoughts about your daughter at that point?" Again, why is the attorney asserting, assuming, implying, and giving HIS opinion? Why is this attorney testifying on his behalf? He doesn't testify, excuse, ir justify for other witnesses "being under stress" or "might have exaggerated," because they were "drunk & angry. "

His memory seems to improve drastically when the defense attorney asked him questions about the same interview. When asked by the prosecutor if he tried hiding the keys he tried & downplayed it and stated she was an adult but when the defense attorney asked if he was angry when he found out she drove the car he stated he was indeed angry upset she drove the car…. That certainly did not help but he is her father after all. I do not believe he drinks one or two beers a month and then all of a sudden he got smashed that day, and the defense lawyer seemed like he was his therapist who knew how he felt and babying him by laying out excuses. I wonder if in cases like these parents have the right to refuse to testify because I sure wouldn’t, first because I do not want to lie under oath and two I would be afraid to make matters worse as this guy did for his killer child because at the end that is exactly who she is now. So sad to see she had all the support many wish they could have and blew it. Too bad she did not listen to his advice to leave it all behind and life starts tomorrow and that she did not take care of herself with the knives he gave her but instead took the life of an innocent guy. I wonder how he feels about providing her weapon that put her in prison for the rest of her life as she deserves.

The father seems like a very normal man, somewhat stressed in life (who isn't) and of course very sad, upset and disappointed with the situation. He cannot manage his stress properly, and sometimes it comes out a bit angry. Who cares? He is her father! And he clearly loves his daughter, and did his best to care for her properly. Unfortunately, the situation at home (child at 14, divorcing quickly, female child not really having female role model) was very bad for Ezra, and you can clearly see that as she is unsafely attached and doesn't like her female identity. It is sad to see that her father probably realizes this as well. Indeed, you cannot change the past, and you just have to work on your future. Sad that Alex does not have a future, though.

I pretty much figure there's a bunch of woke "progressive" judges out there that would have wanted all those details blasted out to try and make him look bad. @@TombRaider666 She was in the process of getting a new job, had gone back to her father's house to stay for a while, was in the process of cutting ties with Alex ... it seems she was making plans for the future and they were productive plans. I honestly think Jason's involvement caused a lot of problems for her. Btw, you should look at the Wisconsin court records. In the Jason testimony threads so many people are saying what a great guy he is. The court records plus testimony from him and others in this trial paint a different picture. Take a look to see what I'm talking about. I suspect that info wasn't allowed during the trial.

@@musicloverchicago437 Here's an alternate perspective: her moving back in with her parents meant she'd have to get a job and it didn't seem like she wanted to provide for herself. Jason provided for her and paid he rent so she had a place to live and she didn't have to work. If she survived an attack, for example, he'd feel protective and worried, and she probably thought she could win him back. She really, really wanted him back. Maybe it felt dire to her.

@@Roswell33 Well, she would say she shot him in self-defense just like she said she stabbed him in self-defense. I really do think she didn't make the decision to kill Alex until after she and Alex left his apartment. Who knows what Ezra and Jason said to each other when he followed Ezra to Alex's apartment, the only other person who can tell us, Alex, is dead. To Ezra, Alex was the reason why Jason wouldn't fully commit to her again. He was egging her on in the text conversation prior to her going to Alex's apartment. There's something really weird about all of this. But in the end it was Ezra who killed Alex and there's no evidence it was self-defense, so I guess it doesn't matter.
