If it was laser scanned the people who are new to f1 wouldn’t like it I have driven laser scanned tracks in a different game. The laser scanned track is really hard
@@CrashTestSkater they should allow us to play both, but that'd be a lot of work. Imagine if every game had the options to play on sim physics, sim damage, laser scanned tracks, and also be able to play on arcade physics, arcade damage, and built tracks.
It feels worlds better than 2019. Even back to back with rf2 it feels like an actual sim. I’m loving it. Best graphics ever and dx12 actually utilizing my pc don’t hurt either
It almost feels like medium traction control, but I find that the wheels start to spin like crazy if you go to a high RPM at low speeds (while turning)
Yeah, sometimes I felt like I got on the gas too early and expected my wheel to go dead from understeer or for my car to spin out, but it just picks up traction instead. Took me a few hours to get used to accelerating out of corners earlier.
@@Route765 Haha! The real F1 drivers said that in F1 2019 the medium TC felt more like a real car, so they OBVIOUSLY took that feedback for granted. Another thing is, codies F1 sims have always had a very heavy feeling in the cars in slow speed corners compared to real F1. Real cars carry much more momentum into slow speed corners, and this year they made it more realistic. Loving the new handling
Yes, the FFB is much more tighter than previous years. Where in F1 2019 I used Wheel Dampening to feel some weight on my wheel, in 2020 I didn't had to use it because of how improved it is.
Couldn't agree more, I've racked up hundreds of hours on each F1 game apart from F1 2019 where I managed 20 hours. The handling for me in 2019 just seemed far too unnatural, far too easy to lock up, way too much under steer and then when you resolve the under steer issue you ended up with uncontrollable mid corner over steer. Jumped onto 2020 on release and was absolutely blown away at how good the handling model is on this. I feel like in 2020 you can really push the car to its absolute limits and if you over step the mark it's fairly easy to correct it but not too easy where it's unrealistic, the braking as well it just perfect.
F1 2019: -Lack of grip & downforce (up to -30%, compared to how the real life car performance was supposed to be) -Understeer festival -Terrible Weight Transfer -Bad traction & braking F1 2020 fixed all of that and made the cars feel right, though the cars could get a bit more mechanical grip.
@@wolfboy20 Yes. There was even a thread on the official Codemasters forum, where some guy went into detail about each track on how the cars were performing compared to reality. In the worst case scenario the cars were down on downforce and grip levels up to -30%. Codemasters never gave a honest answer to that thread and only stated that they will not fix the car performance during the lifetime of F1 2019. F1 2020 has fixed those issues, now the cars are planted, extremely stable, have correct downforce and grip levels, but are lacking a tiny bit in mechanical grip (which can be felt in low speed corners). Overall, F1 2020 is a major step into the right direction.
@@wolfboy20 yes many real F1 drivers complained that the F1 games (not just 2019) previously were too slippy. Just watch Vettel play F1 2016 for example.
This is the biggest fault of F1 games compared to other sims is that the only oversteer simulation is power oversteer. On pretty much every other situation over the limit all you get is understeer. There's never corner-entry oversteer, no matter the setup or how bad you try to throw the car. You can get in too hot in a corner, turn sharply and going hard on the breaks and you all you get is understeer. Gran Turismo is somewhat similar, and I would guess it's related to the games being built primarily for gamepads where it's hard to be smooth on the steering so they can't penalize that. I was hoping that in F1 2020 this simplification would be limited to the 'casual handling mode', but unfortunately it still happens on the 'standard mode'.
Yeah, I really like ACC and it does it really well. Actually most Sims get that right. The original Asseto Corsa also does, and even Project CARS 2 has it as well. Heck, even something supposedly more arcade-y like the latest GRID does corner-entry oversteer surprisingly better than the F1 series, and it's from the same developers!
Have to say, as someone who is a sim fan. I really really really appreciate your understanding of this game. And what it doesn’t and doesn’t do for casual or sim folks 🥳❤️
I feel sorry for die-hard sim racers. I love ALL spectrums of the racing genre. Die-hard sim racers really are depriving themselves. The last F1 title that I bought was 2016 since then ive been spending all my time in AC/ACC and iRacing. I decided to pick up this title and its a super fresh feeling. It really feels rewarding when riding at the limit of the car and the slight rear end slide that you get which is completely controllable feels so natural and controlling it feels just as natural. Loving F1 2020
Those "some people" should then stay in their elite one track minded caves and should have no say in any topic sim/racing related because any opinion other than theirs will be wrong.
can you actually feel the car in F1 2020? I really like the tyre model of acc and how you can actually feel where the limit is and I never really had that experience playing the F1 games there you just needed to learn where the limit was
Great and thorough elaboration Mr. Gillon :). In one of your next vids, could you elaborate a bit on how the handling compares to F1 2013 (and 2012)? I know, different cars, different engines, but still. Could you also talk about handling in wet conditions, and show few laps? Remember that in 2012 the racing line dried up first, and not the whole tarmac uniformly? Never understood why they removed this great and more realistic feature.
The engine braking feels even weaker than in F1 2018 and I've had to adjust my approach (braking even more where I previously used engine braking) but thankfully the loss of "extra rotation" hasn't affected me much
I have played both and still think 2019 is better not in terms of graphics but but reality the fact of contract signing, goals, comment on performance making it feel better but the graphics on f1 2020 are insanely better. Tbh if you have f1 2019 the upgrade is not necessarily needed but if want smoother graphics you can go for it. As said in the video the car has more balance and downforce at high speeds in f1 2020
Great video! Exactly what I was looking for... Can't wait to play the game. Are you going to be doing more videos on F1 2020? It seems like you would do good in the sort of tips & tricks videos!
I'm a beginner in sim racing and the handling on f1 2020 is WAAAY better than in f1 2019. The 2019 version was undrivable for me, I had it first, then advances through Dirt Rally 2.0's all car classes from the 60's until the modern cars, and still couldn't drive f1 2019, until last week, but then I bought f1 2020 and it feels way more natural. BTW in rally games, the same difference exists, for me at least, between Dirt Rally 2.0 and WRC 9, the latter feels way more natural.
Man, I just buy the game and start making hotlaps and I was like "do I have assist turned on?" I double check full sim and all assist off, and I was thinking if there's a mistake or something, no blocking at all hahaha, I have the same config as 2019 on my wheel and the handling is completely different hahahaha, then I found your video and read some comments xD. Definitely it's a different handling, much better, I broke some of my 2019 records in couple laps hahaha
I’m having trouble with the new handling model, I like it but I in 2019 as you explained I drove and down shifted to lose the back end to rotate the car to take a sharp corner, now in tracks like Canada or Australia turn 1 I can’t stay inbounds.
I just went back and played 2019 and for some reason that felt better. Even though when I first played 2020 I thought it felt better than 19. Have they changed something in recent patches on 2020 because I swear it doesn’t feel as good anymore
My main issue with the F1 2019 was that I couldn't feel the weight transfer of the car and that the grip felt super unnatural or unlike other sims I play is this solved in F1 2020?
That was exactly my problem with recent F1 games. The rear kicks out unnaturally and suddenly. From review I've seen so far people said it's "improved" So I think, it may not be as close to a sim.
High speed and medium speed feels almost identical to real life cars(talking from karting etc. experience), however the low speed tractions and turn ins could be much better.
Hey there, here's the thing: you just sold me F1 2020, but I'm don't wanna pick up at launch price, I think I'm gonna wait until the Steam Winter sales, but in the meantime, I wanted to scratch that F1 itchy. Currently, all F1 games are on sale on Steam Summer Sale, and I was about to pick up F1 2019 but after this video, I think it would be just a waste. For a first comer to the series though, do you recommend picking up any of the older games, like 2017 or 2018? Or just wait for 2020 sale? I do have a G27 wheel. Also, my interest is in playing the career mode offline. Thanks!
I definitely recommend F1 2020 over all the others, but the previous games aren't terrible, I just didn't like the handling that much. They've consistently added features every year, so get the newest one that you can afford in the sale, but definitely pick up F1 2020 ASAP
@@AlexGillon Got my F1 2020 copy! Already preload (just the standard edition). Can't wait to start playing it! Thanks for the suggestions and for the video!
I liked your review i was looking for the best F1 game for the playstation 4 that i juat got exclusively for F1 and Grand turismo games. I will get the 2020 . Thank you
What's weird... I have a lot of traction issues in 2020. I had to turn back on the TC (lowest setting) in 2020 cause I kept spinning. Mind you, I don't have a very sophisticated wheel and pedals (Thrustmaster TMX), so it is a bit difficult to feel how much traction I have. But, I was still able to play 2019 without any traction control. In 2020, I'm just not able to do that... Am I doing something wrong? Anbody else having the same problem?
Laser scanned tracks. So your lap times will be as close as real life. I have a full VR setup in my rig but still play 2d half of the time. Because VR taxes your PC a lot you'll lose details and frame rates. At the same time nothing feels better than be in a race car and looking around like you're really in it. So I'll go back and forth. Mostly because not all games support VR.
Hi Alex I really like f1 2020 game but in normal game modes like my team career I find that the car goes into dead slides in high speed corners like copes is their Any thing I can do to help fix this problem
I've spent almost 1,5k hours on a controller in F1 games and while 2019 felt really decent, F1 2020's handling is so weird, so sensitive, there's just no way you can get smooth with such imputs there currently are in the game. Car is just way too sensitive, I doubt I will get used to it.
People talk about the handling is better on 2020. I feel the opposite. 20 it feels like I'm driving with a yellow front wing. Too much understeer. In 19 I had much better control over the car.
I think the people that like the improved steering are wheel racers. I have a wheel, and 2020 feels so much better than 2019. He also mentions in the video that a lot of coding had been changed to prevent abusing things like downshifting to lower gears to get better turn-in on corners.
I love that game, ... to me, ... I`am a casual player, and a horrible racedriver, ... how i play: I play in casual mode with all the little helpers active you can activate, with the AI at 82% to 85%, that means when i race in F2 i really have to fight to reach the first place. i mean if i nail the laps im able to match the fastest lap of the AI,... so i go mostly at place 3-5. but one thing i miss is: in a race game where the fitting of the car is key to be able to reach good laptimes, it feels very poor that there is no total to help to find your own fitting. : /
People talk about the handling is better on 2020. I'm in the minority, I feel the opposite. 20 it feels like I'm driving with a yellow front wing. Too much understeer. In 19 I had much better control over the car.
I haven’t really been able to get a feel for the car anywhere close to what I felt I had since f1 2013. Makes me wanna scream like Raikkonen in Canada in 2015
Yep 2013 has some of the best handlings among codemaster's f1 franchise. There's just so much more grip compared to previous games and you can accelerate and brake so much more confidently.
The idea that a sim must be “accessible” at the cost of realism makes no sense at all. There is no reason why you cannot make the best possible physics engine there is and introduce driving aids to make that accessible. This is not that unfortunately. This notion that it needs to be in the middle of road between game and sim is just an excuse not to build a new physics engine that is accurate. It’s been 10 years now and still the track surfacing is static with no real bumps that destabilise a car to force you to compromise the setup for. Tracks still have this bizarre warping undulations where cars float over with zero physical reaction. This is cartoon physics.
i think this explains why twitter.com/SHZ_Shadow/status/1286258150274936839 codemasters is purely money orientated, they don't care about they quality of their games at all. their only purpose is to sell a lot to casual gamers
it just me or...in F1 2018 im with 2 sec or more faster than f1 2020....happends the same to someone ?? p.s. f1 2020 feels more faster, and feels more assisted :(
Am I the only one who just can't get to grips with the new handling? I am just enjoying driving in 2019 way more... I am on the Xbox one with a Thrustmaster TMX Pro.
Mate, no way is F1 2020 the best handling F1 game to date. No way. I own every Codemasters F1 game from the first to 2021. All Codemasters games lack self alighning torque. Release the steering wheel when breeaking traction with the rear and the steering should come alive (self align) in any RWD car including F1. CM games have always lacked this. The steering therefore feels dead(er) much deader than what is reality. Yhe best handling F1 game ever was rf F1 1991 HE with leo FFBand realfeel at 50%. The car was alive underneath you.
Iracing is not realistic. Ice racing is more appropriate. ACC is king of the hill. I'll probably DL F1 2020 regardless as I am a motorsport fan....so....yolo.
