Should probably point out that this is David Gilmour‘s solo work, long after Pink Floyd broke up. My favorites of Pink Floyd, and of David Gilmour’s solo work keep changing, but this is currently my favorite song by him. I thank you for doing this song, I thought it was a great reaction.🙂

Gilmour is an incredible touch guitarist, he says more with a single note and a bend, than most other guitarists say in a whole solo! He saves this song with his solo, it's really a throwaway song imo, written with Pompeii in mind. "Faces of Stone" is not only the title of the song, but all around the Pompeii ruins are also literally faces carved out of stone, done back around the time of the Mt Vesuvius volcanic eruption in 79 AD. Also did you notice the Italian flavor in the music in the first part of the song, with the Accordion music? This is technically NOT Pink Floyd, it's David Gilmour, half of Pink Floyd during those years, and actually still is today! This was 2015 and from 2009 to today Pink Floyd was/is, David Gilmour and Nick Mason, (PF drummer and founding member).

The song was written about his mother who had dementia. Gilmour and Mason have been PF since Waters left in the mid-80's.

Song about his mother who was absent most of his life until just before her passing. His parents put in boarding school and went to America to teach, came back and left him in boarding school. lyrics are about walking with his mother Ask if he miss her after her death, Dave said NO. listen to how sad the solo is. Same concert "in any Tongue" solo *********** >"Comfortably Numb" for the last time 125 million views.

@ Jc524 - Interesting, I've never heard that before. I was always under the impression that his parents stayed in Cambridge aside from maybe a year or two. Where did you come across that info? I'd love to see/hear the interview where that came up.

As far as I know, this song is about Gilmour's mother's last stage when she suffered from dementia. That's the last time he spent with his mother.

Sometimes a song grows on you and they are the best ones...😏 the first time I heard Carmina Burana I couldn't get my head around it, now, 30 years later, it still gets battered at least once a week 👍

Gilmour was in his 70's when he did this world tour in 2016. IMO, he hasn't lost a thing especially with his guitar mastery. I tried to get tickets when the American leg of the tour came through near me, but the concert sold out in less than an hour.
