Factoring Polynomials Program TI-84 

The program seems to not work when A is positive, B is negative, and C is positive. The basic idea is that the current program started at 1 and checked all values above that sequentially but it needed to start checking at the negative numbers which is why positive numbers work and negative numbers do not (for those of you who understand how this program actually makes sense that was the logic error) DISCLAIMER: IF YOU ALREADY HAVE ERRORS WHEN RUNNING THE ORIGINAL PROGRAM THIS WILL NOT FIX IT THIS SIMPLY FIXES THE INFINITE "THINKING" LOOPS PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT Add the following lines of code to the part after A*C->D If(BJ Else C->J End The next line you already have is 0->L for reference. After that delete the entire line that reads 1-> J (To add a new line use 2nd, del, eneter)

I appreciate this so much. I kept getting an error. But I didn't give up cause I know if it works on your calc., it should work on mine plus if I get this right, It"ll help me tremendously. So with every error that I encounter it gives me an option to "quit" or "go to", I choose go to.. and it route me to the part where I made the mistake. I corrected each mistakes I made and pooof! It finally did the job. Whoever you are, thank you! You're awesome!!!

For those trying to figure out where he got (fPart k......) I found it at Math NUM option 4.

For the most part, I've noticed that math people are not good at english and conversely english people are not good at math.

I've never heard of the a and c busting b method of factoring. I'm so impressed by your program! I also love to make things in TI-BASIC.

When I so this for some reason I get a line that pops up almost like it's trying to graph a line

a app is built in to factor polynomials 1 open APPS 2 scroll to PlySm1t2 or press 9 3 select 1 4 press next using the button graph insert A B and C values and press graph to solve

*_FIXED IT!_* *_I had to rewrite the last line of code as follows:_* Text(-1,15,0,G,"(",O,"X+",K,*")","("*,A,"X+",J,")") I fixed it for TI-83+ and above. If you follow the programming as shown in the video then the error (for me, atleast), lies in the very final line of code. The *"Text(" command syntax* is incorrect. Specifically the use of comma and quotation follow the character K in the origional code. Also notice I added a close parenthesis to the end of the code which may or not be necessary but seems cleaner and works. Try what I have typed out below and read the footnote and you should have fixed the syntax error. *NOTE!:* Acknowledge the difference between O (Letter) and 0 (Zero) above 0 = *Number Zero* O = *Letter* **Extra Note:* The O vs 0 may also be an error point for some people. If the above fix doesn't fix the program then backtrack and make sure all O's and Zero's in the entire program are as they should be. Notice that the zero has a circle with a line through it like the greek letter but the letter O does not. Recheck all the code and make sure O's and 0's are as they should be. ***Extra Extra Note:* The bold part of the code (following the K character) is where the change was made.

I keep getting syntax error and I've checked it 3 times. Thank you so much for sharing program with us and providing us with an in depth video on how I use it ourselves, but I personally can't get it to work. I know others have had success, so maybe I could screenshot what I inputted and a second set of eyes could see where my error is? ( I have a Ti-84 Plus C Silver Edition.)

for the people getting errors it might be becuase if you put random numbers into it it doesnt work like i put in text book answers and it worked fine idk why that is though im just some kid trying to pass his class c:

For me, when A is negative, B is positive, and C is positive, it seems to get the signs on the answer wrong... Idk if I coded it wrong or what. Although still really helpful for just figuring out which numbers to use.

can you post the code on the description? ive been getting an error code on my TI-84 plus CE when "go to" it brings me to the "Then" before "j+k->L"

At first I got an error, changed one line of code. Which was in the 4th line of code to be gcd(abs(A), gcd(abs(B), abs(C))) store G. This corrected the problem and works great now.

@TRYSTEN WALLACE, go to the end of the line directly above it ( input line) and press delete or DEL. The colons for the ",A line will disappear. Do this for the C and B as well.

i figured it out. at 6:23 the line If fPart(K)=0 should not have a ) at the end. (TI84 plus)

If you add these lines of code to the end of this program: :Pause :Menu("FACTOR MORE?","YES",1,"NO",2) :Lbl 1 :prgm(Whatever you named the program) :Stop :Lbl 2 :ClrHome :Stop You can enter in polynomials multiple times without re-launching the program

i have a TI-84 plus CE. when i put a equation in it says "ERROR: ARGUMENT" then i hit 'Goto"and it takes me to gcd(abs(A,gcd(abs(b),abs(c)))->G

My calculator does everything properly and it factors the equation, but it also draws the graph of the equation below the factored form. There are no gridlines just the line of the equation. I have looked through my code and everything is right. My model calculator is a TI-84 Plus CE Python. What should I do?

I have a TI 84 Plus C Silver, when I enter the numbers for factoring I am getting an error. I have gone over the program several times, any suggestions. The computer doesn't like the (fPart(K)=0).

Hi! What a great video it really worked, although at first it was showing the graph. The thing I did to fix it was I went to mode and put it on full, then I went to format and made sure the coordinates and the axes were turned off, and finally I cleared all the recent functions I had graphed. If this doesn't work for you it may be different for your type because I have a ti-84 plus.

These programs do not work for the TI-84 plus C silver edition and these are the errors that show up. "Error: Argument" "Error: Synax" 1:Quit 2:Goto Check the type and number of arguments. Press + on the top menu for the Catolog Help.

I don't see a written copy of the code. I watched the video and put the code in my calculator at the same time but there seems to be a mistake and I don't know where. It's quite a long code and it would be really helpful if the text was more accessible. Thanks. If I hadn't made a mistake somewhere, I'm sure I would have been very pleased with the program.

update to fix if graphs appear behind the factored answer is to clear the x&y intercepts and clear any old graphs stored on ram

I recently posted a comment that I had entered this program EXACTLY as presented. I was able to later verify that every entry was entered exactly as presented, but the program still responded with a syntax error. I discovered that in the TEXT command, the first entry was a -1 and when I changed it to a +1 (1) it worked. However, the program did not calculate the factors for a trinomial that has a negative coefficient value in the second term. For example: x² -6x -18 x² -7x +12 2x² -11x +5 x² -2x +1 4x² -12x +9 9x² -6x +1 At this time, I do not know enough about programming a TI-84 Plus calculator to analyze how to resolve this glitch so I can’t offer any suggestions on how to resolve the problem. However, if your equation does NOT have a negative coefficient for the second term, this is the program to use. I am going to enter this program into a friend’s calculator to help him solve problems of this nature. If you are able to resolve this problem, please post an updated program code so I can make the corrections on my calculator. - Thank You

I have no idea what I did wrong but now whenever I graph, it shows the answer to the last factor problem I did in the graphing part and it doesnt have the lines or anything like that for the graph.

I did this on my TI-83 and it didn't work. I can't put in A-C but the ( ) ( ) won't show up. Not even the numbers that would be in those is Showing up.

This doesn't work with a positive ax^2-bx+c. Otherwise it works. For example A=1 B=-5 C=6 It should be (x-3)(x-2) but this program doesn't factor it.

so I just programmed the entire thing and I am getting an error, I go to the error and it is TEXT(-1,15,0,G. and it is flashing on the comma after the 15. I retyped it and reviewed and still getting the error.. Help Please

I copied everything as you did yet I get two A's and no B when I enter the program it says Enter A then Enter A then Enter C and when I hit enter it doesn't factor I have a TI 84 plus C

I tried putting the program into a TI-84 Plus CE and it gives me an argument error. When I click goto it takes me to the 5th line of code and the cursor highlights the second parenthesis of the 3 parenthesis in a row right before you sto the G. What could it be?

On the Ti83 plus ive finished the code and when I go to it it liberally just says the name of the program. I hit enter and it wont take me to the "ENTER A"

I keep getting infinite thinking no matter what I do

NVM i got it but quick question i entered ur equation to test the answer out it gave my 2(0x+12)(1x+3) it gave me 0x instead of 1x and positive 12 instead of -12

it works on some equations, but not others

whenever i put -18 it say syntax error, and also when i do it by using positive numbers it will crash
