@@rolz71 I was actually trying to crack a super dry joke. Getting to this amazing time must have taken nefrum years and it is a very impressive accomplishment! I've tried the demo and barely managed that! 😂
Great job! I would never had thought it would go below 2:30, and now you're the first under the 2:20 bar! For sure my favorite category to watch on youtube.
These runs just get more and more impressive - I play to achieve a more aesthetic base but in the time you take to complete the game I’m basically still planning red and green science. BRAVO!
As a perfectionist I can't tell you how frustrating it is to constrict my gameplay for the sake of symmetry/aesthetics. I would give anything to just be able to allow myself to make an ugly spaghetti factory.
Honestly I wish I could just build with purpose like Nefrums can... I prefer aesthetics too but logically if I unlock tech faster I can get an aesthetic base faster too!
It's interesting you mention that. I was watching another speedrunner and it looked like a clone of Nefrums' any% speedrun. I was confused, but this is good to know.
After watching your video, I got inspired and beat Factorio in 7 hours and 30 minutes. I had a large island with only 1 entrance for the biters. Biters were at 600% from the starting area, and resources were set to max. But I did it! Thanks for the video Nefrums; it was a useful guide.

Yay! Congrats. One way you can speed this up even further is by having one assembler building stuff from the starter base intermediates. Primarily for miners, inserters and assemblers. That way you won't get stuck with the handcrafting queue limiting you quite so much, but you may end up overproducing one thing or the other. That *should* be offset by getting the real base up and running a bit faster though, so you can get intermediates from there.
you would need iron plates to craft anything out of the intermediates. all iron from the starter base is consumed though. unless you mean feeding iron from burners to an assembler. at that point you can just handcraft
I just picked up Factorio. I have 13 hours logged. I beat 1/2 the tutorial and automated red and green science in freeplay. A 2.5 hour completion is absolutely insane
And the Game's complexity scales Up the longer you play and looks like you can always make something new or improve your creations. Welcome to the engineers club!
@nefrums I think 1 of the mines assemblers made only 1-2 mines due to belt pollution. Given all went well, perhaps 3 assemblers is enough, saving some steel? You pass by at 1:13:30, no inserter activity.
well played sir! hey sir. I've been play by demo and just will buy it next month. but my score is more than 20 hours. Could you recomand map seed and blue print that can under 8 hours? or where to i can searsh and find?
I see you and now I really want to play factorio again. but I feel like the first person right now because I haven't played it in years. it feels like I'm playing it for the first time and I have to learn everything again. On the one hand, it's fun to rediscover it again, but on the other hand, it's pretty hard if you've already played through it years ago. I didn't think I'd forget so much of the game, because with other games it's not that bad.
40:52 Can anyone explain why it is necessary to combine copper with iron? filled belt with one of the products will block the production of the second, right?
That’s livesplit. It’s the most common speedrun software. I believe for him it’s actually on another screen but when he broadcasts he overlays it with the gameplay
How does he interact with the furnace and drill so quickly? He just kinda hovers over them, whereas I need to open them and then it opens my inventory to put items in/ out
It's a shortcut, CTRL+left click to take all. For putting them in, you need to have the item on hotbar, select it, and CTRL+left click again to insert. You can also press Z with coal in hand and while over a burner/furnace to drop one coal.
@@saltyismymiddlename97ctrl click picking up items is mostly used when grabbing items from furnaces because you know it’ll be a stack or less. If you want to pick up from a chest you can click on it to open its inventory, then if you shift click an item it’ll take the stack. If you ctrl left click an item it’ll take all of that item, with a right click taking half. If you ctrl left click an empty square it’ll take the whole chest, with a right click taking half. If you’re taking from a chest and you don’t want a full inventory I’d recommend opening it up and shift clicking stacks manually
Another micro-optimization; When outposting, drop down roboport with yellow chest immediately so bots can start working immediately. For micro-micro optimization, do the "place-delete-undo" trick you use for 100% speedruns so bots build things closest to output first. I think you'd save about 10-15 seconds per outpost doing it that way.
48 min and still no biter attacks, he even drove out to an oil field far away and still havent seen a single biter on the screen. how is this default settings?
I mean he got lucky, but I've had that happen before. It's very nice to not have to worry about them for a bit when it happens, even if it is quite rare. No idea why it happens, but it does. In one case I think maybe the biters were kinda trapped on a peninsula, so they couldn't easily find their way to the base.
@@marsma18Ah, I see that he waits to upgrade them until setting up the mining outpost and then also upgrades to red belts for smelting. I guess I should've asked why not build shorter smelting stacks and upgrade to steel furnaces sooner? Seems like it would reduce coal use and pollution. Does delaying that research and not building steel furnaces early save resources for something more important, or is there something else I'm missing?
@@quietmind42at the start every piece of iron and steel matters He have to get the whole belt to make progress and to build up some buffers. delaing it will be time loss later in the game due to pack of build materials
