As an autobody technician of forty-five years, I was yelling at the screen when you were standing on that “aluminum” hood on that Ford of yours. Please don’t stand on that hood, it will dent very easily, and probably already has. I love you guys, and as you know I have followed your trips for a while now, just trying to save you money and aggravation. Keep the great videos coming.
Thanks, Gary for the info. I'm pretty careful where I stand and have not dented the hood. I try to stand on the edges where there is some reinforcements but we need to get an extension pole to wash that area. A clean front is not worth a dent in the hood. Appreciate the heads up.
@@bigtruckbigtravels . I understand the need to be up there, I’m just trying to save you money and aggravation. Because it will happen eventually. Love the channel!
#134👍......when you got the Jeep after what, eleven days you said, the song "Reunited" came on in my head lol. Cool paddle boat ride but a bit busy for me. But hey, you're in a big city now. I really liked the Auto Museum. That was unexpected but greatly appreciated! Also glad you lost a few pounds........of mud!
I think our fuel mileage increased by several miles per gallon after I washed the mud off! The boat was busy but they handled it really well. That's funny on the song selection.
Another great video. I was watching the hitching up of Artemis and wanted to pass a tip along to you. Label each key so you know which lock it goes into. This helps a lot if the towed vehicle is on fire and you are looking to disconnect the RV from the towed vehicle. That way you are not fumbling around trying to find the correct key when you are trying to unhitch. We learned this from personal experience. This is not a joke.
On the old electric car, Baker electric made cars and trucks for the Whitehouse, the trucks were 4 wheel steer and the bed was on a lift so it could line up with any dock. Hope you are still having fun be safe. That truck with the big massive tires look up LeTourneau's Land Trains some time if you want to know more about them.
Thank you. I'll check it out. It's just amazing that we think all these advancements (EV's) are so "futuristic" but the foundations for them was established over 100 years ago. Granted the infrastructure is more advanced with lithium but it's not a new product. Appreciate your comment.
Visited where you are last summer 2022. We stayed in Frairbanks, Denail, Chena Hot Springs, and took a train ride to Anchorage with a Jupiter cruise on the inside passage to Sitka. The Fountainhead Collection is worth the price. I visited it for two days. We took an airplane trip to the Arctic Circle and visited with Jack. Great trip.
Great shots of the things to do in Fairbanks. Now I want to do the riverboat! Definitely the warm place in AK this summer. Hope you made it to Chena Pump House for Dinner!
Hey Marty, we did not make it for dinner at the Pump House but the menu looked really good. Maybe next time...we did find time to stroll around their grounds for a minute or two. Nice place.
Hubby got your video first so watched with him. You two seem to have so much fun together. The landscape shots of Alaska are so beautiful and because I probably will only see it via videos/RU-vid, Thanks for the ride along. Be well and safe travels.
Can’t believe how the dirty your RV got on the highway and I can’t believe how beautiful it looked after all your hard work cleaning the RV. Great video and so informative. Love it.
Hi guy's...thanks for the video...very interesting...loved that auto museum...and the clothing for that time is cool...we are laying here in our camper in Gatlinburg tn watching your trip...lol...stay safe...J&A
LOL...Thanks, J&A. I guess we bring out the "chill time" in you...it seems like you're always watching our channel while laying down or "chilling". That's fantastic. Appreciate you watching the channel. Safe travels to you this summer.
@@bigtruckbigtravels yea...lol...we are busy in the daytime..like you guys...so at night we watch all our friends....besides...we like to stay warm watching you in Alaska..lol...
Hey Phyllis, Sondra will post the completed pages on our Facebook Group Big Truck Big Travels (not the page by the same name but the Group). She really enjoys her scrapbook/journaling.
You're welcome, Simon. We're excited that you're along on the journey. Tomorrow's should be some epic views. It's a really historic and scenic route to take in Alaska.
Just saying Hi again from scotland. Great Vlog this week and got say Fairbanks looks fantastic with lots to explore. Thanks for taking us along with you. We loved the museum and need to put that on our list to visit one day. Great you got Curiosity all sparkling again, wish they had wash facilities like that here in the UK with stairs to get your roof washed easier 😢 Looking forward to next vlog, stay safe 😊 Blair & Mel 🏴
Thank you Blair & Mel...and great to hear from you again this week! Nice wash facilities for sure and fairly convenient. Fairbanks is a nice town...usually in late July Eileson Air Force Base has an air show too.
Great educational and fun video with beautiful drone views. It seems it took a while to get used to civilization again after a couple weeks. Safe travels!
LOL...it was a little "weird" to be in civilization again...especially the campground and having neighbors! LOL. Appreciate your time watching the channel. Thank you.
20 years ago on our 40th anniversary my wife and I made that same boat trip when we were in Fairbanks. Today July 20, 2023 we celebrated our 60th. God is good. Bob, Reese MI
@@bigtruckbigtravels Yes it did. We from Fairbanks to Anchorage by train stopping in several places over 6 days and went abroad a cruse ship and sailed into Glacier Bay and down the inland passage. Our trip was over 2 weeks.
Thank you very much. It was surprising to us about the auto museum in Fairbanks. We looked into it and apparently it's one of the top in the country. Who knew?!?
We went to the same gold mining place and Chema Springs and loved it!!! So glad to see the rv clean and shining again! Keep up the safe travels and great adventures. Can’t wait to see the next leg of your journey!!
Hello mes amies ( my friends ) l have to commend you on reaching g your goal but l must say that l had a wave of relief to see you back to civilization. This place is very pretty and green. I thought that you had brought your bathingsuits for the spa oh well. So where's next l mean making to the Arctic Ocean was such a dream so what will be your next amazing adventure. Going direct south to the Magellan strait? Going to thee Antartic Ocean now that's quite a decent trek.😊 I'm teasing you. What about Europe? I already anticipate what you will do next. I am very proud of you and honored to be with you on your adventure be safe now and see you soon.
Hi again, Linda (bonjour). We continue around the state. Next we'll explore an original highway to a National Park then a few stops along the way (more wildlife?) before we head to Southeast Alaska for a few weeks. More fun on the way. See you next week....and Merci for watching the channel.
You sure got that rig squeaky clean in the car wash and again later on. Thanks for the Bounce tip. It’s amazing how they built the oil pipe line above ground for all those miles. We both love your “funny wee nuggets or puns if you prefer. Those drone shots continue to add a whole new perspective to the ground shots. Thanks for another entertaining and informative video on your Alaskan journey. Regards, Ken
Thanks for watching! We did get it clean...but boy, it sure needed it after the Dalton Highway run. The pipeline (TAPS - Trans Alaska Pipeline System) is an amazing engineering feat which has stood the test of time. It's incredible how it was built and quite a few viewers have added to the story with their experience. Amazing! Glad you're enjoying the trip with us. Thank you again.
You all should look into boondocking in Petersville, it’s just up the road from Talkeetna, I spent a lot of summers there gold mining, hunting and riding ATVs. It’s public/blm land so you just find a spot and camp. Go right at the forks roadhouse and drive a couple miles out and there’s some great spots and Denali views.
I looked at Petersville road, Michael but we ran out of time in the area. It will have to be another visit but I've heard it's a nice area to boondock.
I am in Seward Alaska and almost finished a 2 hour cleaning of my RV after having done the Dempster Highway to the Arctic Ocean. Cleaning the inside happened a a week back, it took a day to get the dirt out of the cabinets.
No, I broke a serpentine belt and the bolts holding my microwave sheared off and it fell a couple of other minor things and I have an appointment on Friday for a front end alignment...I hope that's all.
We were lucky. We were close to Inuvik. People were terrific. Tow and belt were 300.00. Live and learn. It was a bucket list trip. I would fly or rent before I did it again. Continue your great coverage. I am following when I have service 😄
I found your channel last week and have now finished watching all of your vlogs. You both do an outstanding job of video, photography, drone videos and narration. We have no interest in ever being RVers but love going with you on your travels. I have seen places we have been, placed we should have gone but didn’t, places we have wanted to go and place after watching we now want to go. I find all of your vlogs fascinating even those with technical RV/truck/trailer information. After talking about your channel so much for the past week, my husband is now watching as well. Thank you for taking the time and effort to do these vlogs. I know that it takes a lot of time. God bless both of you and safe travels. I will look forward to your weekly releases. Christy from Tallahassee FL
Thank you, Christy. We enjoy traveling but doing so in an RV is definitely not for everyone. We're really excited that you found us and can share in our experiences on this journey. See you next week!
I'm sorry but I have to comment on this video, since I told you all in the last video about Ryan in the gray Sprinter Van. I was watching one of his videos yesterday, he was in Fairbanks, in fact he was at the same carwash, in the same bay were you all washed your RV. Watching this video I got a big kick out of thinking of Ryan's video were he couldn't use that stall until the owner had to spray it out because the previous people who used it made such a muddy mess, I thought it could've been you all with all that dirt and mud you all had, I got a good laugh thinking it could've been you all, being in such a small world. Also the airplane David didn't seem to know why it was there. Mr. Ryan was also there on his way to swim in the hot springs, he said that plane was actually a weather vain. In closing Sandra said it was your last day in Fairbanks. In Ryan's video yesterday he was still in Fairbanks for two more days before heading to Anchorage.
That's pretty funny, it's such a small world. It's amazing how different people in similar circumstances can be drawn to the same activities/areas. I don't think it was our mud....but then it could have been! We did have a lot of it. LOL. Thanks for the comment.
Loved your videos on Alaska, beautiful shots of the wildlife. Visited Fairbanks once in late June but it was for business, only got to do a little exploring. Thanks for the return trip via your videos.
Every episode of your Alaskan travels enforces my decision to never visit Alaska. Lol. It's a beautiful state, but I'm a wuss. Lol. I will live vicariously through the two of you. 😊. I adored the auto museum!!!
LOL...Glad you're along on the journey then, Deborah. It's a beautiful state but definitely some remote areas. They are neat to see but I completely understand your decision! See you next week.
In Fox, Alaska is a great restaurant called the Turtle Club. It has the best Prime Rib and the best salad bar that I have ever been to. Three long tables of salad fixings, great food. Now I'm hungry thinking about it. Cleaning that rig must have taken at least an hour and lots of money$$$$$$
great video and you were right about the mud on the steps. I bet the run off made the rivers run dark for a few days after the washing you gave it. We also have a gold dredge in the mountains out of Baker city in eastern Oregon. have been to it many times. When in Phoenix AZ visiting my son we went to museum and they had gold panning for you .They had a big tub of dirt and you just took what you want to pan. Well, you know gold settles, so I dug down and panned a good sum of gold. I used a snuff bottle and gave the gold to a guy and his little boys and told the guy to use it for their college. I must have given them $1K of gold. Your videos sure bring back a lot of memories for me
That was so smart to dig to the bottom. Not a lot of people realize how heavy gold is relative to other metals and materials. Your "gift" to the family was very thoughtful as well. Nice. Glad it brought back good memories for you.
Thanks, Brendan. I hope the family was behaving themselves while you watched the video! LOL. Appreciate the comments. I thought the shots of the paddle wheel boat were unique and cool. Hope you have a great weekend and see you next week.
@@bigtruckbigtravels I think its fair to say they have learned their lesson. It's winter here so they didn't like spending time outside whilst I watched your video bahaaaa Very much look forward to the next video. Safe travels
I really have enjoyed your vlogs. I live in Alaska but have never done the tourist stops in Fairbanks. Really cool. By the way, we are experiencing north lights or aurora borealis now, Oct 19.
Nicely done! Your channel popped up in a recommendation about a month ago, I’ve enjoyed it. We took our class A to Alaska in 2018 but didn’t even consider the Dalton Hwy. Thanks for sharing.
Hmmm...interesting. I guess they didn't get enough donations because they are charging a pretty shiny nickel for admission now. It's a great collection and a fun afternoon.
Another great video. Wish I could find a way to make the trip on two wheels and have the comfort of a motorhome. No escaping the mosquitoes on a bike. My Hammock with a bug screen didn't work at 70 degrees too hot for me. Maybe it would be cool enough in Alaska!!
LOL...definitely cool enough in AK, Rod, as long as you weren't in Fairbanks. Hit the coast for cooler temps. That would be a difficult trip to stay motorhome comfy while traveling on two wheels! Hmmm....we've seen a lot of hybrid sport bikes up here. Safe travels this summer. Thanks for watching.
I'm a big fan of the Gold Rush show on Discovery so I enjoyed seeing the dredge. Fairbanks looks like a fun place to visit with the paddle-wheel adventure, the cool car museum and all the old timey stuff. My folks always had station wagons when I was young so learning the origin of the name was interesting. Great photos as usual Sondra! I'm looking forward to the next episode!
enjoyed seeing that roads are like rember worked fairbanks to north beach replacing most culberts from yukon river to deadhorse dont miss miss state bird misceatos 95 -96 hope to get back to see friends
We visit an area, Kris and we find neat things to do which interest us. Plus, we start talking to locals and they let us know of activities we may want to visit. It's a vicious cycle but a fun one! Sondra would say "tiring" but fun!
@@bigtruckbigtravels It certainly looks like fun! I am glad to ride along with you both through your video's! You have given me a different perspective view of Alaska! I even pulled up a map to see where your travels took you and to see exactly where the Dalton Highway is!
I like the shirt that David is wearing, Utah Rocks I have actually been to all 5 National parks here in Utah. Looks like you are having way too much fun there in Alaska.
I like that shirt as well. We've been to all the UT National Parks but really enjoy Arches and Bryce. The boondocking in those areas is great. Thanks for the comments. We're having enough fun for several people, I think! LOL
Sure enjoy all your videos and travels! We are currently in Hope Alaska. My home is in Wasilla but we have it rented out and travel full time. I love your attitudes and sense of humor. We have a question. Where did you get your bike covers? Our bikes are getting thrashed from all the dust and mud splashing up under our cover. Your covers look much more effective. Thank you so very much for your videos😊
Thank you very much. The base cover is from Topeak. Sondra modified them to encase the bikes completely with velcro to seal the bottom. They work great and very little gets inside them. The only issue is some tearing and wearing from the bike rack but we are also going on some bumpy roads! Glad you're along on the journey and getting out on your own too!
Enjoyed watching your videos of Alaska seem like a pretty fun trip watching you guys, not sure if I would want to go there. I've watched a lot of different videos hunting various types of Alaska trips and it seems like the mosquitoes are just terrible there. Just one other question I noticed the covers you had on your bikes Could you tell me where you acquired them
Thank you, Ronald. There can be a lot of mosquitoes depending on where you are but generally they are most everywhere in Alaska. Still it's a beautiful state and a fun way to spend a summer. Sondra heavily modified the covers from existing bike covers. The base cover is a single bike cover from Topeak.
You guys are awesome 👏, make a great team & luv your videos . Very educational for those of us who are looking 👀 to purchase an RV. My wife & I are torn between getting a pre owned 36 ft Country Coach & a 32 ft Thor like you guys have now ….😮 any suggestions being that there is no W/D in the Thor vs one on the Class A Country Coach ? How’s the noise level in your cab traveling ? My wife & I test drove a Renegade Classic a few years ago & it was kinda of loud ? ? Safe travels to you guys & looking forward to more of your wonderful videos & adventures. 👍⚾️
Thanks, Bob. The Country Coach is a good quality DP Class A from what I understand. Probably air suspension so the ride will be better. The Thor is fairly quiet but the Class A would be quieter. You may be more comfortable in the Class A as well. Pre-owned may have all the kinks worked out...but did they take care of it? I won't lie, Sondra misses the W/D this summer in the Class C!
We are planning a trip to Alaska and have been watching and enjoying your podcast. We are wondering if you have posted your itinerary that you followed. We have our ideas of where we want to go but would be interested in seeing what you planned.
We don't have a blog or website but we do have a FB Group Big Truck Big Travels that we will post more details like the itinerary after the trip is done. Thanks for watching. It's a great trip.
And, you guys drove the Dalton Highway in an RV? I made six trips up and down hunting caribou; it's a rough road, and I had one leaf spring to break, I was very lucky I had one for repair.
Oh yes. We'll use it for several more trips we have planned in the near future where we need this size of RV. The rest of the time it will be at our daughters house for her to use with the family as she chooses.
Hey there! Great watching you guys go through Alaska! We are actually on our way now and only about two days to Whitehorse. Do you have any suggestions of places to stay or what to see at that point heading into Alaska? We also thought about going North to Dawson City first and coming in Top of the World Highway. I believe both ways will be beautiful. Any suggestions? Also my husband wants to know where you bought your hitch that has 4 holders? We have an Entegra Accolade pulling a Jeep like y’all’s and it would be nice to free up the back of the jeep👍🏻
Hey Christine- In Whitehorse, Canadian Superstore (not Walmart). Miles Canyon is cool to see too. Hi-Country RV or Pioneer Park are a few places to stay. It's a GenY hitch. You can get it through them or from our Amazon store (link below). We love Dawson City and it's very cool to cross the Yukon on the ferry; however, if it's not a beautiful day then Top of the World will not be very spectacular (it's going to be either dusty or muddy) but it does avoid Destruction Bay. Both are beautiful drives. I think the drive through Destruction Bay is prettier but the roads are worse. If you drive through Destruction Bay then Congdon Creek Provincial Park is nice with sites on Kluane Lake (if they are available). www.amazon.com/shop/bigtruckbigtravels?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsfshop_aipsfbigtruckbigtravels_QCP5428MJTFRAPRCJTZS
Your videos are excellent! Did you consider a Renegade or other motorhome before you decided on the Thor Magnitude? What’s your pros and cons on this motorhome?
Hey Patrick, we looked at all of them and decided on the Thor for the following: cost, 4x4, floor plan layout, 32 feet in length and F550 chassis with 6.7L engine. This one hit all of our requirements. The negative was Thor. Lol. We weren't crazy about getting a Thor but so far it's been pretty good. Some minor slide issues we've addressed and a few other mods. The biggest negative we've discovered on this trip is the suspension is VERY stiff and doesn't handle washboard roads at all.
Glad you liked it, sorry about the music but I like the soundtrack I selected. Appreciate your comment though and your time watching the channel. Thank you.
Enjoy watching your videos. My husband and I are planning on doing this trip when he retires in a couple of years. We're contemplating trading our travel trailer for a super C. What mpg did you get driving up to Prudhoe Bay? We have a new 3/4 ton gas right now. We're just trying to figure if we would save quite a bit on the mpg with a super c. Thank you!! Safe travels 😊
Hi and thanks for watching. We're averaging around 9.5- 10 mpg for the trip so far. Prudhoe Bay was a little over 10 mpg but we were driving about 20 mph too! That's with towing our 4 door Jeep Wrangler. The Class C is nice and 32 feet fits virtually everywhere. We're not crazy about flat towing the Jeep because we can't back up. Otherwise, it's been a great experience using the Class C.
Fairbanks is cool. Considering where it is there is alot to do there. One day I'm going to drive the Dalton. But, I have a 45ft luxury bus and I don't want to give up the comfort of my home. Since you've driven the road what is your opinion on driving a Newell motorcoach on the Dalton?
Next time up to Alaska, we're going to take our Big Rig up the Dalton. Semi-trucks drive it every day. BUT... we're going to take it slow, pull over to almost a stop for oncoming trucks/vehicles and watch the weather. We won't attempt Atigun Pass if it's wet. Don't be in a hurry. And it will get very dirty.
Just curious did you ever use 4x4? We would like to explore Alaska too but not sure if we need AWD or 4x4 RV.. Sure it gives a higher level of comfort knowing you have it but is it a must?
We have never used the 4x4 option yet and don't anticipate it. You don't need AWD or 4x4 in my opinion, just take it slow and use good judgement on the roads. It's a great trip and we're glad you're along on the journey. 😎
Are these guys really that dense? that DC-6 is part of the fleet of DC-3s, and bush aircraft that make alaska live, and helped settle the remote territories, bit of a put down to Alaskans and Natives that are supported by Air only...
Obviously, you haven't watched a lot of our video's. We're enjoying Alaska a lot and love the history. We understand about the role air transportation plays in Alaska...you can see it everyday with all the "bush" planes flying about. What was curious to us is "why that plane on that pedestal?" Was that particular plane significant to Chena Hot Springs? Did it deliver supplies regularly until the road was built? Why was it there at Chena? There was no description, no explanation. Whitehorse, Yukon has one at the airport but they have a description on a plaque stating the significance of that particular plane.
You can do the research but there were even better electric cars 100 years ago, maybe more, can’t recall dates. The technology was actually better qnd the cars went something like 800 miles on a charge. Soon you will be finding out all the technology and over 6000 patents of things good for humanity, that’s been being hidden from us and it’s gonna blow your mindz. 🤯
I’m sorry I can’t believe you stood on the hood of your Alumiduty Ford truck to wash a cheap plastic RV That is just horrible to do. You worry about dirt but scratch the clear coat with you mandals full of grit and stones WTH were you thinking.
I do clean my shoes off and insure that there are no rocks grinding away at the hood. I try to stand on the supported areas of the hood and not the "creased" areas. So far it has not dented at all but I try to be careful. Really appreciate your concern and raising awareness on our part. I will need to get an extension pole to clean up there. Thank you.
Sometimes, Brad, ignorance is bliss. LOL. I know that I should not stand on it but I am placing my feet under the more "major" supports in the hood. I test it first and if I feel any type of "flexing" then I move my feet to a more stable area. I'm going to get an extension pole. Thanks.
