You hit on the heart of this. It is a surprise that it took until Constantine for an Emperor to see what a complete blow job to authoritarians this religion is! Jesus tells people to give that which is Rome's (taxes) to Rome. He tells them that being poor and oppressed is a GOOD thing and they will be rewarded for NOT being jealous of rich fucks, not wanting anything for themselves, and paying their taxes. Paul goes even further - telling people to obey ALL their earthly rulers, because "god" gave them the "sword" to do that which is right - but that is what the Nazis, Japanese, Italians, and Soviets did! But the Allies ALSO obeyed their earthly rulers and fought most of them (all eventually) so who was doing what was "right"? Most of what Jesus supposedly said was bad advice, and what was not needs to be tempered by common sense.
