I'm a septuagenarian Canadian Baptist who was raised in a loving church that focused on what Jesus taught and which preached love and respect for everyone. My husband and I stopped attending church when we moved to the USA and discovered that the Southern Baptist churches viewed what Jesus taught as evil communism, and promoted hatred, bigotry, and the forced unification of church and state, where freedom of religion and freedom of conscience were not accepted or tolerated. Twenty years later, we moved back to Canada and we still no longer attend church because many of the churches here have embraced the Southern Baptist and MAGA values. My husband and I love the 'Betty Bowers' videos but also feel a certain amount of sorrow because they accurately depict how a wonderful message of love, respect, and tolerance has been corrupted and perverted into a sanctimonious, hypocritical message of intolerance, hatred, and prejudice by those using Jesus's teachings for self-aggrandisment and for a political power grab. It's no wonder so manÿ people despise so-called 'Christians' and hold them in contempt.
Well said! I grew forced to attend a Methodist church. Jesus seemed nice except the thing about sending children to hell if we misbehaved. It was used as a way to control us. I thin ought it was evil. I felt terrorized. I am one of those who despise Christianity.
I think unfortunately the vast majority of Christian doctrine sees Jesus as just a sacrificial lamb. Not as wise shaman like man. I notice that most sermons focus on the words of John and Paul or the Old Testament. I personally could preach a lifetime on the words of Jesus, simple, easy to understand message, no bs. No judgement zone etc. I told my stepmother that there was a book of Mary Magdalene and that it’s speculated she was in fact Jesus’ wife. She flipped out assuming that if they married, he had sex, therefore sinned. 🤦🏼♂️ But how do you live as a man, experience life as a man in Judea in 20 CE without a wife?? You don’t. Unfortunately Peter and Paul were clearly envious of the relationship or they wouldn’t have referred to her as a prostitute. These types of inconsistencies and the fact that nobody in the Christian church or Judaism or Islam has ever come to recognize the divinity of the feminine spirit has made me choose Gnosticism and spirituality over any organized religion. Hindu I think gets it closest to being right in describing any deities and their proper forms. Shiva being God, and Mahakali being the Holy Spirit.
I did read up on the Target issue she brought up. Target claimed ppl were going there arguing with employees and destroying the LGBTQ section and throwing clothes on the floor. They “claim” to have gotten rid of it to keep employees safe. But this one trans designer also uses satanic symbols on his clothing, so Target did cave to pulling his merch. All i know is, i recall approx 2006, the charge nurse and good friend of mine, she was against Target bc they support gay ppl. I don’t even recall responding to her, but I thought it was petty. So I do know Target has been supportive of LGBTQ community for a very long time and has supported Pride month for a decade. The Rt did put out a lot of disinfo about Target which is basically like stochastic terrorism. Sometimes companies need to make tough decisions. I’m certainly not ready to boycott Target for this.

I was horrified when proposition Hate, I mean "Prop 8" was passed in 2008 here in California, which was an actual amendment to the California Constitution that stated "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." Thankfully, it was overturned by the courts, but the Christo-fascists haven't given up. I have a neighbor who is a christian nationalist and a retired sheriff deputy. His boss was Chad Bianco, the Riverside Co. sheriff who was a card-carrying member of Oath Keepers, a white supremacist terrorist group (as identified by FBI and crime-watch groups). Chad claims he's no longer a member of OK, but he often speaks out in support of them and claims there was no attempts to overthrow the government on Jan 6th. This neighbor always has the most maggaty yard signs supporting hate (such as prop 8), trump banners, and "F Joe Biden" signs. Mighty "christian" of him. He hates me very much! In 2008 when he was obsessed with prop 8, I commented something like, "It's nice that you are accepting that Catholics and Mormons are christians just like you, since they are the main supporters and financial donors of prop 8".😃😇

Republicans pull that stunt over and over again with laws and amendments they know wouldn't pass in more major elections with higher turnout.
