Falcon 4 BMS 4.33 Tutorial 13 JDAM vs bridges at Dalsan

In this tutorial we're looking at Joint Direct Attack Munition, or JDAM.
We're going to be dropping two GBU's on two bridges, Dalsan North and Dalsan South, and we're going to do that on one pass. With JDAM you can attack up to four different targets.
An alternative method to the one used in this tutorial would be to use mark points. The use of mark points is explained in the JSOW tutorial. In this instance cloud cover precludes use of mark points, and instead we will be using pre-briefed coordinates.

This is the kind of explanation I need. Tell then Show.

I agree, just wish I knew why the delay was needed and what defines how long the delay needs to be. BTW Jive, some one told me you were looking for a multiplayer server for BMS. Have you looked at the Veterans-Gaming one? It's still up and running.

Thank you Sir !!I've been "out of the saddle" for a long time and have found many, many upgrades to BMS .Although I've been with Falcon, (SP2 & 3, Open Falcon, and helped with the BETA testing of BMS) since 1999 and have over 5000 hours in the pit, the changes during the last year have made me a novis again.You have done a great job putting these videos together and I truly appreciate your efforts ...Many thanks !!

Hi. Thank you so much for your video. How did you get the IMP ANG and IMP VEL numbers? Thanks a lot.
@supanova88
@supanova88 6 лет назад
Angle and velocity are not implemented in BMS.

Thanks for taking your time to make such cool tutorials. My question is that why did you use TGP while you already have GPS/INS guidance ? Thanks
@supanova88
@supanova88 7 лет назад
As long as the TGP is on the aircraft it's worthwhile using it to visually confirm good coordinates and also good impacts.

Another great video! Do you think you can do a ramp start video for 4.33? I know you have made one before but i think it's out of date, and i think the style of your most recent videos is better, easier to keep up with.

+Telmo Silva I'll include an updated ramp start with the TFR FLIR tutorial, which will probably be the next video. That might also include an instrument approach landing. I might also do a 4.33 ramp start, too, at some point as time permits.

I'm assuming you can set a target steerpoint to the bridge and launch that way?
@supanova88
@supanova88 7 лет назад
As long as the steerpoint coordinates match the coordinates of the target.

So how did you know the correct coordinates before hand? Also, is there a formula on how to calculate the correct delay, impact azimuth? Where do these numbers come from?
@supanova88
@supanova88 7 лет назад
You would find the coordinates when planning the mission. As explained in the mission planning tutorial you could set the steerpoint as target type. You might also take the azimuth from the orientation of the target. For example with a bridge you might want the bomb to fall along the road line. The arming delay is only really relevant if you're releasing from a very low altitude. The purpose of the delay is to prevent the bomb exploding close to the aircraft. You can leave it at default.

Hi there. Is there any way that we can use GBU-54 for DEAD mission to hit multiple targets by one pass? Thanks.
@supanova88
@supanova88 6 лет назад
In general I think that would depend on the air defence system, and whether the parameters of the delivery profile of the weapon would fit a reasonable standoff range from it.

Thanks so much for all your great BMS tutorials, Supernova :-). Really appreciated! A question and a remark. Q: do you know the CNTRL settings for PROF 3 and PROF 4 when 4 GBU-38/B / HE are loaded? Remark, but that's an other lesson and as the great virtual Falcon pilot as you are you already know this for a very long time: I mainly use MARK points (26 and 27) when engaging targets close to the STP target, because sometimes the preplanned coordinates of targets (like a Factory) are not exactly pointed to a target. Though the differences between preplanned coordinates and MARK points assigned targets are small, this still can be a factor, 'cause there is a chance the bomb miss the target of the preplanned coordinates. Hope you understand what I mean :-). So, like in your video I do exactly the same: type in the coordinates of both bridges, but then and as an extra control I use MARK points to lock the bridges with the TGP to check/get the coordinates.

I haven't used GBU's for a while so I would have to research the settings. I follow the manual instructions when recording videos from the tutorial, so it's easier for people to follow the process BMS documents. I would normally also use mark points.

Thanks for the reply, Supernova. I shall look into the BMS manual also, to find out how to configure 4 GBU's-38/B / HE. For sure, in bad weather and due to a thick cloud layer the TGP can't monitor the surface, I assign the targets' coordinates to STP (with Recon) and save it to the DTC, and load the DTC during the Ramp Start afterwards. With Weapon Delivery Planner it's a nice extra feature in BMS 4.34 to have the briefing/flight information (with pre-planned coordinates) on the kneeboards (Left and Right knee). If I figure out the configuration of 4 GBU's (PROF 1, PROF 2, PROF 3, PROF 4) I'll let you know.

what I don't understand about the attack/impact azimuth is: if you'd enter 350 and drop it between Rmax2 and Rmin2, how would the bomb fly towards its target ? Going directly to 350 ? Or positioning itself so it comes from 170 ?
@supanova88
@supanova88 8 лет назад
+leptir70 You have to think in terms of the desired attack azimuth and the energy required for the guided bomb unit to achieve it. At release you don't want to be plus or minus 60 degrees from that azimuth, otherwise the GBU will have too much work to do to achieve it, and instead it will ignore the azimuth and go direct to the target. RMAX1 is the theoretical maximum range of the GBU, while RMAX2 indicates the maximum range at which the GBU can achieve the desired azimuth.

how to update the coördinates when you want to hit a movie target?
@supanova88
@supanova88 8 лет назад
+the-dutch-Hollander You could try using a mark point and the TGP, updating the coordinates as required.
@the-dutch-hollander7363
@the-dutch-hollander7363 8 лет назад
+supanova and how do you send then to the (already dropped) jdam?
@supanova88
@supanova88 8 лет назад
+the-dutch-Hollander You could only track the target through the approach. To adjust after release you would have to be using a laser guided bomb. A Maverick would be a better choice for a moving target such as a vehicle.

Ah oke I guess the whole JDAM operation isn't implemented than? btw can you also do a tutorial about the whole ICP? I can't find any tutorial covering this topic and I think its about the only thing I really don't get. I think you woul help a lot of people with this!
@supanova88
@supanova88 8 лет назад
+the-dutch-Hollander I've covered a few of its functions in the videos, but at some point in the future when I have more rpactical knowledge of how all of the systems work in BMS I plan to do videos on individual items. The TGP would probably be the first, but ICP could be another one.
