The Tri-Beam Laser rifle does so much damage in the hands of Overlords because they get a perk where each shot does a flat 40 damage that ignores your DR, so they do 120 damage minimum per shot and why they are so deadly.
Fun fact: my username is a reference to the Tri-beam laser rifle, because I liked it so much in Fallout 3 and New Vegas! Really enjoy these tier lists, they're fun looks at the game.
It’s blasphemy not putting A3-21 in S rank. Shit it should be in S+ rank. It’s by FAR the best weapon in the game. 1-2 shots everything on the hardest difficulty.
@@0Synergyhe metal blaster doesn’t do 800+ damage. If every projectile hits AND crits it does 298 damage. But the chances of every projectile hitting AND getting 9 crits in one shot is really low. More realistically the Metal Blaster will average around 125-150 damage per shot with crits at close to mid range. Meanwhile the A3-21 does 100 damage per shot at any range with crits. The metal blaster is still really good, but not a whole tier better than the A3-21.
I agree, A3-21 should be S tier. I use it as my lategame all-round weapon. I just switch to the MPLX Novasurge for really tough enemies since it has low durability.

I don't really understand why you keep saying "abuse the crit system" when each pellet crits. It's exactly how you would expect it to work. If individual pellets were to crit with an individual chance I'd average out to the exact same dps increase.
Yeah, i don’t know about fallout 3 but in New Vegas it’s definitely not abusing the crit system. Shotguns have probably the worst crits in the game because you’re pretty much guaranteed to NEVER get the full crit multiplier, because you have to roll a crit like 6 times per shot.
The system is the exact same in Fallout 3, but the crit damage of shotguns is much higher. In NV, shotguns are set up so that all pellets have to crit to get roughly double base damage. In F3, thee crit damage is around half base damage, and nine pellets are fired. The terrible shotgun has 80 base damage and 40 crit damage. If all nine pellets crit, that adds 360 damage with a basic critical hit.
You forgot to mention the tesla cannon has aoe damage and also damage over time effect that can hit you if you're close. The unique plasma rifle is also extremely durable, it's almost impossible to wear it off past 85%
Good idea! That looks like it is going to be the winner of the latest poll so as soon as we get through Far Cry 6 then I will start a New Vegas playthrough.
