"Family Life" | Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph (Fr. Mike's Homily)

The Holy Family was holy, but not without struggles.
Jesus entered into this broken world by entering into the reality that all of us have experienced: family life. He did not insulate Himself from the harsh realities of life by embracing a life of wealth. Rather, all He had was borrowed.

My family are Catholic. The past few years I find that when I talk about Jesus they all look the other way 😯 If I really get into the teachings, it's like a mass exodus in the room😕. It doesn't stop me talking and smiling about Jesus because they know I'm content.

9:08 “Everyday is confusing” Thank you Fr. Mike, I appreciate how you said that. I for some reason resonated so much when you said that. There’s some sense of humanity when you said that. Which I don’t know how to describe. However, this video was well done and well said. Am doing my conformation and my teachers made us watch this video. Which I really enjoyed listening to. Once again, thank you Fr. Mike 🙏

Thank you, Father Mike. Relationships in this world are often difficult and painful. but if we remain faithful to Jesus and Mary, and help everyone close to us also to love Jesus and Mary then we can look forward to the perfect family in Heaven. It’s a joyful feasting always with the largest most perfect family. Everybody loves everybody else. No one is upset angry offended, resentful jealous. Just pure joy and love for each and every soul in our perfect family - forever! Our deepest desires, and most ardent longings will be satisfied and fulfilled in heaven. Perfect love for all eternity.

Awesome. I think I'm confused because how are we to care for parents who are still abusive. Therapy taught me to have boundaries and I know some caught off but am I to care for them financially especially if I don't have enough for myself, my whole family is just complex I sometimes don't know what to do or what is right to do

@@Sophie-jf1nl Dear Sophie, I will give you general advice that I often give my clients. I'm a Catholic Life Coach with a master's in pastoral counseling. While most secular advice from professionals is often to "cut off" any toxic relationships, including parents and other family, the Catholic perspective is nuanced and life-giving - for all involved. Depending on how abusive one or both parents are, some distancing and having boundaries is absolutely necessary. Not taking a call or replying to a text right away can be respectful, both to yourself and them. If someone doesn't have enough financially they are not obligated to help anyone else, including their parents. Sometimes even totally cutting off all connection. But all Christians are commanded to "honor your parents." The best honor we can give them is to love God and pray for them. Pray, light candles, have Masses said, forgive them from your heart, ask God that you may all meet in Heaven where your relationship will finally be truly loving. I hope this helps!

Our Lord was not materialistic, having things is nice, yet it is Not everything. Love, kindness, caring, respect is more important. The family was poor and loving. How many are that way today? More interested in competing with the Jones’s. I had a widowed mother and she gave me what I needed. I had food, shelter, clothes and love. Too bad so many do not realize how lucky they are. My mother was a saint RIP ❤

Thank you Father Mike. By the comments I read, it was obvious that " family" is a very touchy subject. Why is it that some of us don't want to admit that we are not good parents, and also disrespectful children? As for myself I was in tears thinking how I could have been a better daughter to my parents. I am 86 yrs old,too late for me. But to these new generations, please think and reflect! Ok, your parents are narcissistic, what to do? Maybe just leave when you are able. Don't abuse them, mistreat stay away. If they really need help, help them. That is the right thing to do. Remember it is not all about you! This is a tough one.

Thanks for this because this is a tough one. I've reduced talking to my family because of years of abuse, not completely caught off, but there are strong boundaries which have labeled me the bad person. But if my parents need money I have sent although now that it's hard for me I've Said to not ask me anymore. I wonder if what I said was wrong after watching this. This video has confused me sigh lol

BELIEVE GOD THROUGH HIS SON: Some speak of God only; others speak of Jesus only; and neither is life eternal. In John 5:24, Jesus wants us to hear and receive his words, but to believe in God the Father. Jesus tells us knowing the only true God is eternal life. Everyone who believes in God through Jesus' words has everlasting life and shall not come into damnation but is passed from death to life. Believing in Jesus’ every word is the way, truth, and life that leads to the Father (John 14:6). We must hear Jesus in order to reach the only true God: the Father (John 17:3, 1 Corinthians 8:6). We must know them both.

Jesus wasn’t poor. He had enough gold, frankincense & myrrh to provide for his family for 30 years. And once he started ministering, he had enough $ to meet the needs of his followers. Wealthy women accompanied him & Judas stole plenty because he was the treasurer. Jesus always had everything he needed as an itinerant preacher. He never worried about lack. He knew Father God would provide
@zwijac
@zwijac 7 месяцев назад
The comment is nonsensical. The gold, frankincense and myrrh weren't given to the family until after they borrowed the stable and the trough. Joseph was the adoptive father in essence. If you were right, and the richest would last 30 years............ that's perfect, because Jesus didn't borrow the boat, donkey, upper room, tax money, tomb or cross until after he was 30 years old.
@zwijac
@zwijac 7 месяцев назад
Even so,....... the Bible tells us that according to the law, two turtle doves was the accepted offering for poor families who could not afford the sacrifice. And it tells us the two birds were Joseph and Mary's offering. Where does the bible tell you how much gold was given to the family?
@CIST3

Notwithstanding the difficulties of the Nativity, I do not believe that the Holy Family lived in poverty. I do not believe they were rich, but believe they lived as the mainstream families lived in the times in which they lived.

Hi Father Mike. You were quoted as stating "from the moment you are baptized God has given you a role in the Church and job at every single Mass. And that job -with the ministerial priest-is to lift up the sacrifice of the Son to the Father in the power of the Holy Spirit so the Father is glorified and the world is saved." What does "so the Father is glorified" mean? I know I sound dense but the Father is already full of glory. I mean how can he be more glorified than he already is by our doing, by anything we do in worship? We don't bring any more glory to him by saying/professing it or believing in God's glory. God's glory is well beyond that, we are just tiny specks of importance, or even smaller compared to God's glory. Also, does "lift up the sacrifice of the Son" translate as acknowledging Jesus' death, the blood he shed to save us and the ACCEPTANCE of his sacrifice on our behalf? What does "lift up" really mean? All these questions come after this period of my life which includes a long time of blind obedience/just doing what God says even if I don't understand why I am doing it, accepting it, knowing he knows better than I. I don't feel any love towards anything or anyone, but mostly a determined adherence to God. I don't necessarily like some of the 'jobs' God wants me to do (I have kind of gone numb, cancelled me out, kind of like a 'I don't exist, only HE exists') but I do it because only he matters. I DO love, I don't feel love. I sometimes cannot even stand the persons I am kind to, but they never know it because God says be kind and I am. One thing, I am in awe every moment that I think of God. I talk to him throughout the day. I share everything, even when I feel anger towards him, lack of trust or am cynical about God. The cynical part scares me because I know he could smash me in that moment, but I bring it to him and ask him to work on me. So back to the other, maybe I am hung up on the nomenclature of spirituality but what do those things I ask above really mean??? Please pray for me - ALL who read this.
@CIST3
@CIST3 7 месяцев назад
When we live our purpose (God's will for our life), we bring glory to God. Jesus' ultimate sacrifice, which we remember at Mass, glorified the Father. He did so to redeem us and to give us an example of how to live. At the end of Mass, the priest or deacon will say, "Go and glorify God by your life." God wants to share his glory with his creatures. God is perfect and doesn't need anything from us but living a good life is an expression of love for God.
@gemum4219
@gemum4219 7 месяцев назад
@@CIST3 thank you so much. You explain it so logically, it makes sense. I often say that one knows when we hear Truth because it is so logical, there is no fault or inconsistency in it. I pay attention every single word I hear in Mass and read in the Bible. There is so much to get out of both. I will read the Bible and find something new each time I read the same passages. Same with Mass, I am always finding so many new things to decipher and meditate on. God is constantly telling us so much. So it is nice to receive another's perspective. Again, I appreciate it. Bless you and please pray that I trust God and for protection from any being (the devil or persons) that could bring pain and suffering to my life that could distract me from continuing to get closer to God and following his will.
