To know that Shawn Harrison played such a funny, clueless, silly character while dealing with so much heartache says a lot about his strength as an actor. New appreciation for Waldo Faldo.
As a Mexican American growing up without a dad in bad neighborhoods I looked up to Carl Winslow as a father figure. A great show I'll never forget. They still look young and beautiful
TruePatriot1776 ** OMG!! I'm gonna cry. This show was what we needed back then, and still need to day (2019). As well as other African American shows such as Fresh Prince of Bel Air, the Cosby Show etc..
I personally don't think the show would have lasted long without the " Steve urkel" character.... He really saved the show, he was the reason I watched the show.
The co creator,, William Buckley, in this video said the same thing. The cool thing is had virtually anybody else been cast as the character, things wouldn't be the same. Same with Henry Winkler as Fonzie.
I absolutely loved Family Matters when I was a kid. It almost hurts watching this reunion because you take a step back and realize just how old we all are now... I mean for me? I was just a kid... not to mention my Mom, Grandma, and Grandpa were all still alive when I watched this show... now they're all gone and I'm almost 43 years old! Where does all the time go!? It really does go by so fast... and you know good wholesome shows like this one just DO NOT exist anymore. Family values and morals are gone anymore... It's really sad to see how things have changed since this show was on the air... I will always and forever miss the 80's and 90's... As far as I am concerned, those will always be the best moments in time... at least in my life anyway.
That and the other 3 produced by the same guy and vocalists during that era lol 😅..step by step, full house, perfect strangers and family matters! All the same cats!
@@brittanyknight1103 Wait, what!! You just blew my mind lol. I had no idea that was the same guy. Guess that's why they are all awesome theme songs lol.
Jaleel White was very talented to only be 12 years old. He played all those characters perfectly. I also think "Myra" was worth being remembered in this reunion. She was also a great actor. I always got a kick out of Carl's boss, Lt. Dan Murtaugh. It was a great show that I keep recorded on drv.
I just started watching, and I’m hoping they honor Myra. She was such a beautiful soul and I remember my mother talking to us about her death when it happened. Ovarian cancer runs in our family and my mother wanted us to know the importance, as women and particularly as women of color (indigenous), of those regular health checks and of demanding we be treated equitably if we had symptoms that needed to be checked out. My mother truly believed that her color contributed greatly to the outcome; I don’t know if that was true, but I have certainly always remembered Myra and made sure to be tested for the gene (I didn’t have it) once we could.
@@tballgame43 yeah that was inappropriate and insulting. They honored Grandma Winslow (as they should have), but I think you could argue that Myra was at least equally as important to the show as she was.
Family Matters was my jam in the 90's! Steve Urkel was partially responsible for my interest in science and space. Now I work for NASA. Thank you, Winslows, for the good values you taught so many of us during our formative years!
I cried big tears watching because there’s so much history and memories behind this show! It really makes you miss the good old days. Times have definitely changed but boy what I would give to travel back in time to experience certain feelings again. ❤😢
What I loved about this show is that every episode had a message. They talked about gun violence, bullying, racism. But more important: Love and how much family and friends ment in life. Rest in peace to Estelle Winslow (Rosetta LeNoire who passed away in June, 2002) and to Myra Monkhouse (Michelle Thomas who passed away in December 1998)
I loved Friday's after school TGIF ON A.B.C........Family Matters, Boy Meets World, Step by Step and Hanging With Mr. Cooper......sometime they rotated in Full House......
Who’s here after watching Jaleel White’s uncensored episode on TV One? After watching that, his facial expressions and demeanor here make perfect sense. Spoke volumes.
Man i miss the 90's. It was such a great time back then for me as a kid. Every Friday i looked forward to T.G.I.F. Me and the other kids at school. Those times were so golden and great.
Christan Matthews that's what's up. My mom and I watched also. She's no longer with me and my other siblings. I sure do miss her. Watching this just brought back so many memories. Thanks for your comment as well.
I loved Family Matters as a kid, my husband and I just started rewatching the series. Seeing a black family on TV as a child that was so similar to my white family helped me recognize how similar everyone is and that the color of your skin doesn’t matter.
This country needs MORE sitcoms and LESS bs like Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Teen Mom. So, for those commenting on a reboot, you've got my vote! We were ALL fortunate to grow up in the TGIF era! Each episode of each show had a moral to the story. Like Telma said during this interview, there were always hidden "nuggets" to learn from. The difference between then and now... you rarely had episodes about race or politics. But when they did, you got a gem like Good Cop Bad Cop. Quite possibly my favorite episode Family Matters ever produced. It's a toss up between that, and The Substitute Son. Two classics!!!
Was only gonna watch 5 minutes of this to see what is about aaaaaaand 53mins later I've watched the entire video without missing a beat. God I miss this show
If any of the cast reads this .. I just want to say thank you for getting me through a very difficult time un my life .. Even when things were pretty bad for me I knew that at least once a week I could tune in and forget about everything for a while .. You all will have a very special meaning to me .. Today life is great .. but if it wasn't for this amazing cast I might not of stuck around to see it .. Also thanks for this reunion .. I always thought the way you all bonded on screen wasn't just an act ... and now I know that's true ... Once again thank you so very much ..!! Sincerely . Tim
He HAS to be my favorite character transition of all time! The fact that he could transition so smoothly before our eyes..i legit believed and had the HUGEST crush on Stefan lol
As Morgan Freeman said on Deep Impact: " I believe in God. I know a lot of you don't, but I would like to offer a prayer for our survival, mine included. Because I believe that God, whomever you hold that to be, hears all prayers, even if sometimes the answer is no. So may the Lord bless you, may the Lord keep you, may the Lord lift his divine countenance upon you, and give you peace"
This show is my childhood. One of if not the best show ever made. I watched every episode multiple times. I remember recording the show on VHS so I could watch it whenever I wanted which was every day.
When Steve Urkle came on the show, he took over! The show became his. As a child, we didn’t even know the show was called Family Matters. We called the show Steve Urkle!
Well, it was similar to Will Smith on "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air"....or the Olsen Twins on "Full House". Fans loved the character(s) so much that they wanted to see more of them.
adu1991 except in Fresh Prince Will was always the main character. Funny enough the one person who tried to buck his position ended up getting fired. 😜
Magic happens once producers have cast the perfect team then the rest is history! The reason why this show lasted 10 seasons was the chemistry of the cast members. Love this show ❤️
I miss shows from the 80’s and 90’s. They were so wholesome and funny. I’m thankful I grew up during that time to enjoy these shows. I looked forward to TGIF Friday’s!
I miss this era of tv so much. so much love, positivity and innocence. Now everything is pure trash. Cursing at 8am and bare ass before 10am on any station. This is the reason why all I watch is old reruns
OrganicallyNique yeah I agree with you Ma'am. It's just like Hip Hop. A lot Hip Hop music nowadays is pure garbage with no message. That's I listen to 1990s Hip Hip. Same for R&B.
Hearing Harriet's voice after all this time really hit me deep. The show was such a big part of my childhood. Now that the Fresh Prince reunion is here, it's all comin full circle!
only 1 episode form fresh prince, I liked, and got to me. when his dad never really wanted or loved him, and he was crying, asking why. touched me big time..to how i feel about my parents.. brothers, sisters, cousins, grandparents, covid had nothing on me.. being alone over 40 yrs, 3 yrs was nothing!!
I rented a car to Harriett in South Florida about 15 years ago and I heard her voice when she walked in and instantly said wow Harriett has walked in and when I approached the counter it was her. She’s just like her character, just a genuine, nice and friendly person. She was a joy.
Family Matters, Living Single, Martin, Roc, A Different World, Sister, Sister, Fresh Prince, Moesha, Girlfriends-- we need modern shows like this because representation is important
Boy i remember looking forward to Fridays as a kid ...it was everything! Such a beautiful heart warming show❤😊Always made me tear up. I get the feeling that these actors really felt like a family...especially for Reginold...❤
I was in the military in the 80s and 90s. Every Friday night my friends and I would go to the clubs but not before we would watch family matters. Loved Steve and Myrtle!! Couldn't stand Stephan!! LOL!!! I can still watch this show. Thanks for the video and the memories!!
Shows like this were so inspiring. One of the reasons why the 90s was considered the "Golden Era". There was so much positivity and family worth in those sitcoms. Not the same, today.
I did not mean to watch this whole video but, I got sucked in and couldn't help myself! It brought back good memories of watching it back in the day and it was so nice to listen to each of them share their memories. Wonderful!
this is when TV was tv before social media. Shows like these had a message, you learned a valuable lesson, and it was funny. Although the show was make believe their chemistry seemed genuine. This show reminded me of how real families were back in the day. Today almost eveything on TV is garbage or reality TV.
I miss those times and wouldnt trade my childhood for today. These kids dont know what struggle is or how real families were back in the old school era. My mother was my mother not my friend or trying to act or dress like me. This generation are lost shepple, everything is acceptable even if its wrong, kids they are brained washed so easily. When I was young I did ask questions. NWO agenda....
She has done both but she still looks great. Idk why ppl act like aging is a bad thing, they’ve all aged, got wrinkles and gained weight but they look good, all things considered.
there will neverrrrr be another steve and laura chemistry on tv so yall made history, so many crying moments, laughing moments , emotional moments and the entire cast was so epicly great, jesus lord yall made an amazing series.
10:00 minutes, notice how Jo Marie (Harriette) spoke up on behalf of Darius (Eddie) as if she were his real mom taking up for and reassuring her baby boy. ❤
Neno Branco they came back with girl meets world but can’t bring back family matters and omg the theme song I couldn’t get enough of it... the bigger the love the faaaamily
This show was magic and thank you for bringing back so many memories. I love seeing them today , and this show was huge part of my childhood , it brought tears of joy to me eyes to see this now. Great reunion would love to see a reboot
Just one of my favorite shows always growing up in a 90s watching family matters & full House and other souls really shape a lot inside these were shows that portrayed moral godly family values something that this generation lacks a lot I pray for more moral shows like these
I liked both as a kid, was entertaining, but full house had more social issues showed on screen. That I believe was a very important message to viewers. You can look it up the videos are called something like: "Times full house dealt with social issues".
I'm 46 M... I was in my early Teenage years I was 14 when it came out and I'm not ashamed to say I probably seen damn near all they aired when they showed the Clips in this It brought back Good Memories! Y'all Stay Blessed...
I hope they do a reboot ..please do a reboot !!! I love this show to this day! They don't make shows like this anymore . always good CLEAN fun!!! With a outstanding cast!!
Latasha Woods I apologize you did not understand as s Youngblood. Girl we had few role models. In our. Culture that looked like me Laura looked like me and I loved her style she wore nice outfits with cute hair styles when I was young and impressionable I looked her for the newstyle and she had a strong moral compass on the show all around great character and beautiful inspirational young lady and still is her and my sister looked just alike thank you 🌞
Man I'm so thankful for all the great shows I grew up on being born in the 80s. Regardless of the dominant race of the show I'm blessed to have been raised by shows with substance intelligence family morals values and etc etc... I grew up watch this wonderful family make one of the greatest family sitcoms ever. I'm glad to see everyone here is still healthy and navigating this thing we call life to the best of their ability... We will never see shows like this ever again. RIP TO Rosetta. She was the backbone.
I saw Laura Winslow at Pep boys in the SoCal Area buying wiper blades for her BMW convertible...She was really pretty and i was looking at her for a long time, and she said, 'HI HOW ARE YOU' and smiled. I never watched the show and i didnt know who she was until years later.
Man this show was MT favorite as a kid. So many good memories of growing up with FM and the rest of TGIF. This cast had it and there are so many good episodes. Unforgettable.
