This was a beast of a show. 20 years later, I'm trying to bottle and understand what I was going through in creating shows in 2000, 2001, and 2002! This capped off my tenure in great fashion. Thank you M100 members during this years. Love you guys forever. T. Barber

donald scott I’m going there next year even thou this video is old I swear from 1900s to the early 2000s the bands use to be lit especially at black historically colleges. I remember everybody wanted to join the band after drum line came out lol. When I was younger I swear nobody couldn’t play dance or get crunk like my black folks can . I wonder what happen to the school spirit .
@1banddirector
@1banddirector 6 лет назад
Aaliyah Hennessy they still got school spirit, but the hundred is lacking creativity. Right now the hottest HBCU marching bands are TSU, NCAT, JSU. And BCU whenever they decided to think outside of the box.

@thejazzmusician

The director did an interview with showtime magazine where he said he didn't want there to be a winner. Drumline director said no, A&T will win. So FAMU director said the band won't participate in the film

Please read Dr. Foster's handbook for marching bands. It will give you a clear understanding for calculating why the number of Drum Majors. I look forward to your constructive criticism of that. Thank you. Mr. Timothy A. Barber

Actually, do you research, it is not!! The marching 100 has a history in the state of Florida. I attended in the '80s...so I am old school. But the band has luxurious history and career. We were one of the first bands that changed the military style of marching and developed our own steps called the"rattler". Dr. Foster, on his journey, came to FAMU because he was not allowed to be a band director at the university he graduated from because he was black!! He was determined to create his own band that was different, funky and grooving plus he pushed scholarship and musicianship on campus. As a campus co-ed back in the day, there were 2 guys to consider in dating, someone in your major and one of the guys in the band. They were consider good guys, not like the men on the football team or in a fraternity . I would suggest you view some videos from the 1980's and even from 1975 from our first televised PBS game against Kentucky. Then you will understand WHERE exactly we developed our program and the hype as you put it. FAMU is the real deal and my beloved alma mater!!

Lori Wilson Hey Lori... Thank you for proving my point!!!!!! They are STUCK in the past!!!!!!! It is time to upgrade the the show!!!!!!! I’ve always said they have a great history and I agree with you on its importance! However, It’s 2018.... not 19??....
@drlori4
@drlori4 6 лет назад
DJ Rob J, you are confusing me now. Isn't it the point that in order to have bragging rights and hyped(as you so eloquently phrased it), that you reflect on the foundation or historical content of any program. Hey, I'm not a music major, so I could not begin to tell you about point and drive. I would not know what you have to undertake to upgrade the show. But, I am confused to what you are comparing the Marching 100 program to???? I have not seen any HBCU band out performed US!!! I just saying, being real now. But I have a sincere question for you and I hope you don't get offended. But what is your point in coming to a FAMU related page, where there are tons of alumni who frequent here, and say something derogatory about the institution? And yes, the Marching 100 is an extension of the university/institution. Let me tell you what FAMU did for me and why alumni feel so strongly about the school and it's things. When I was 17 years old, I attended a predominately white high school, that put most of the black students in Special education classes. As a matter of fact, they encouraged it!! I came from a military family and had parents that pushed all us kids to excelled academically. We moved back to Florida for my senior year. My parents showed up to guidance counseling and said to the astonished guidance counselor " My child needs to be in all honors classes, she can handle it". Thus, I was the only black in all my senior classes. When I choose to go to FAMU, my SAT scores were pretty good, but during my freshmen year, I met others that probably were not as good as mine. FAMU accepted these students, gave us a chance, from the backwoods of Florida to get a quality education. Our motto at that time was "EXCELLENCE WITH CARING". I was a pre-medicine major and 2 of my best friends were Nursing majors. During our time on campus, through the long lines at financial aid, the horrible food at the café, the losing football team(even at homecoming), the hot azz sun basking down on you when you walked from one class to another class, we found an appreciate of the "struggle"!! There was one indeed. FAMU gave me the confidence, the perseverance to endure almost anything. When I finished FAMU and got accepted to medical school, it was scary at first because some of my fellow medical students were graduates from UCLA, Spelman, Morehouse, UAB . Until I received my first test score from Biochemistry class and realized that I had made the top score!! This little girl from FAMU blew them all out!! I'm immensely proud of what FAMU did for me, made me proud of my heritage and instilled in me the knowledge that I needed to compete and make it anywhere. I finished medical school as my best friends in Nursing became top in their fields in Nursing in the perspective careers. We still remember the Marching 100 and the rattler strike events we went to as undergraduates. #blackdoctorsorg #iamwhatadoctorlookslike #famu1988
