Fanstoys Hydra Sixshot 

My heart dropped as I saw the tabs needing to go into that translucent piece. You hesitated seeing it too. And then what we all saw coming..... Damn Fanstoys.

I can live with my decision to buy Hanzo. Gone are the days where I constantly swap out this bot for that bot just because FansToys finally gets their crap together and finally releases something they teased years ago.

Considering how much more complex it is than DX9's version it doesn't look much better (iridescent turquoise notwithstanding). I'm glad I got that one as he's simple to transform and sturdy.

Fantastic review! I get to use this 6 times as well! I got one in yesterday and that ones staying in bot mode, I have a case of these that will be here next week and I’ll be pulling this review up quite a bit after that for all the alt modes. Thanks for a killer review man!

I'll give you props, takes some balls to transform a Sixshot for the first time on camera. I'm happy to see Fanstoys worked an ab crunch into this guy. Shame about the limited ankles and your breakage. I'm most impressed with his arms/shoulders great balance of articulation and engineering.

Yes, the knees on mine are about the same as yours, not nearly as bad as some have complained but not the best either. Thanks for all of the other warnings so those who got this can be extra careful. Excellent review, as usual, thank you so very much and I appreciate the hard work you put into these.

Just getting in to the review, for people that are interested. The chest he comes installed with is based on his Season 4:Rebirth and US commercial animation models. The optional chest plate represents how he looked in the Japanese Headmasters series. I had to go with the Headmasters look :)

Awesome review fellow collector. Sixshot is a very tricky Transformer to create. This looks great. Holding the line with Gcreations.....this is a 1st. Merry Christmas to all.

Every time I see a Fans Toys transformation, it makes me want the DX9 version that everyone's gonna be selling off on eBay.

Good Morning and thank you for this Fans Toys' version of Sixshot. Those are his hypersonic rifles, according to the original G1 Sixshot from the year 1987. I just might pick this one up.

I almost never transform a six changer, and kudos to you Mr. SKULLFACE for doing it and regretfully you broke it to show us how to transform it correctly. That is a bummer, when that kind of thing happens I want to throw it against the wall.

The complexity of this figure and the engineering it took is amazing. People can say what they want about Fanstoys, they are simply the best third party transforming Transformers company today. Not every figure is spectacular, some of the transformations make me want to punch something. But they are the best. Excellent review! I so appreciate the effort you put into your work, dont know how you have the energy. Merry Christmas.

I know it is too late for you, but just in case it helps some random person reading the comments, the wings pull straight back out of the torso on diecast pieces that gives better clearance to tab them into the translucent canopy. It worked for me, but it is the only mode I've only done once because it does scare me even before you broke yours. Getting those rear tank treads out of the upper arm was terrible the first time, but in subsequent use I've found it is better on mine.

You can get a basic spudger type tool from those black scratch off portraits you can get at the dollar store. they almost look like a cheap stylus, and my partner saves every one she sees. Turns out they are perfect spudgers when the Quakewave I got my son for Christmas came with his hand and foot bits in tight.

Your review of this guy (along with TMan978's) really helped painting a clear picture of this guy. Though I am still kind of on the fence, I do like Hydra more. But I wonder which one you prefer? FT Hydra or DX9 Hanzo?

So glad I passed on this. It takes an hour to transform a fanstoys figure, 6 modes = 6 hours. I’m happy with titans six shot.

I think the figure looks amazing. He is one character I don't really care too much what the alt modes look like because even in the cartoon they looked like crap. I never really transformed my G1 version so the bot mode is of prime importance for this mold. I look forward to receiving him, and thanks for the review. I was looking forward to it.

I agree, I wish the head was painted... Maybe they'll release a new head later on like they did with Grinder. I was surprised that you didn't mention the shoulder ratchet settings. That first click outward, is spaced out too far, so that's a bummer. The only other issue w/ mine, is the Right Hip. The Right Hip on mine, is incredibly loose, but that was the only QC issue I ran into with mine... No issues w/ my knees, but it is a weird engineering choice...

Some of the moving parts are just amazingly engineered, the tread that folds into the arm, and then the cover than spins on the outer arm are both just a really well thought out design. But those knee's those are just waiting to break, FT tried to be really clever and have things look super accurate but they made them structurally unsound, all Transformer knees need to have good ratchets since they essentially hold up the entire figure. The shoulders bug me as well because instead of having one friction joint there is essentially three, and it just seems like theyve added multiple possible points of failure. It looks amazing but i would never want to even touch it if i bought it. Bobby do you still have the Gcreation Fuuma, and if so how do they compare? Great video as always.

If a joint feels tight, you might try applying some R/C shock oil first, just a thought, thanks for a great review!

May be I am weird. I am not crazy about how thin the joint look connecting shoulder and arms, and at knees. I don't worry about breakage...but only the look...adding up with ankle and other potential issues, I am going to keep waiting for a better 1 shot. At the end, only 1 mode matter the most. To be fair, I got more problems with DX9's

Great review, I was trying to watch this video early this morning before going to work. But couldn't watch the video and drive at the same time so, I decided I'll wait till I get home when I have more time. I must say he is a great figure forsure and goes well with Sovereign and Quietus, but imo his not a great stand alone piece. I've watched some reviews on that Gcreation Fuuma and I must say, although hydra fits better with the Galvatron and Cyclonus, imo that Fuuma absolutely destroys it. As always great review.

If I get this guy he is gonna be called Threeshot because I will never try wolf, submarine or tank mode. Man, masterpiece is becoming a master pain in the a$$. How would you say this compares to DX9's Hanzo? I've had my eye on that one for a while, but now that the FansToys one is out I'm not sure. I will say that I like DX9's wolf mode better, and wolf mode is my favorite Sixshot alt mode, but it seems like FansToys might have a leg up in shelf presentation in robot mode.

FansToys needs to offer some kind of coupon code for the next purchase for people who going to transform this to all 6 modes because after hearing that SNAP..... I ain’t doin’ it. My Spidey Senses are tellin me they’ll probably do a repaint like their Phoenix smh they should of put some paint on that head sculpt. It’s a one and done figure for me. Thanks Mr. Skullface.

The swords are supposed to attach together to blade to blade. That's why the blades are magnetized...to help hold it together.

If I was a TF reviewer going on 4 to 5 years... I think I would be bummed every time a Sixshot was released.

Tbh I think the knee issues might be in part due to the way they had to displace his knees to get the wolf mode legs to look right and to have the legs fold back on themselves for tank mode. I feel like the knee extension components should've been die cast to give them a little more rigidity. If it turns out that the knee mechanism isn't the direct source of the problem, it might be that the kind of ratchets fanstoys had available that could accomodate the knee extenders just ended up being a bit too flimsy. Also the tank tread armature that collapsed into his tricep could've been loosened by making the proximal hole that acted as a channel for the pin linking the tread armature to his arm a couple nanometers wider.

Stupid question, but how long do the rubber tires on these figures last before they start to crack/ deteriorate?

Despite the issues, I still want this figure. The caveats are apparently have shock oil ready for the first tank mode transformation and don't transform it to gun mode. I always felt gun mode was the weakest of all Sixshot modes, anyway, though, and I already have ideas about a Seaspray-esque "boat mode" from watching the transformation.

I've been waiting for someone else to review this so I can see if we have the same issues. You pretty much have the same complaints except I had a few loose parts like the nose cone on the left leg and the left biceps swivel. You also said the same things I said about the alternate modes. I was accused of not being a Sixshot fan because I thought they don't really look like much. The wheels in the truck mode, they rub up against the frame of his arm on mime as well. I noticed you didn't pull his barely any use heel flap out from under his toe. Thank you for the content.

where did you get your tool again that you use to split stuff?

This is why we still don't hv an astrotrain. Designers did 6shot and said "ah, hell no, never again" .

A very bland looking figure IMHO with an overly complicated and fragile transformation. I think MMC Hex is better. I have that figure, but i am selling it, decided to get pretty much out of MP collecting. It just takes up too much space. I am sticking to CHUG and this way i still have room left for decent 3.75" Star Wars and some ML. Great expert review Skully! MK reference FTW! Paws….dog paws.

Fanstoys Hydra or MMC Carnifex in terms of build quality?

Sheez, no wonder we don t have a FT blitzwing yet. Tbh, i don t even know six-shot, but if i were interested in an MP Sixshot, i would hate these altmodes, they look like G1 alt modes. I would much rather have a non-transformable Kuro kara kuri Flame toys Sixshot. That would be fkin imposing on the shelf! Nice hanging in there for the transformations!

whats the best order for getting all the modes transformed? plus I will never try to do the gun mode. that cracking almost got me heart break

I know I'm asking you to compare apples vs oranges but.. This one or G-Creation's ?

I just got mine earlier today. I heard the knees were weak but, wow, this guy fell backwards at the knees in my hand while barely manipulating it. The paint is really good. Limited toe articulation, weak legs means I can’t even pose him dynamically without risk of him falling. There’s no point in transforming him if it results in loosening joints and potentially breaking the figure. He still has a lot of good, strong joints. I love the way the shoulder joints work with the arms. But overall, I’m kind of let down while still satisfied. I haven’t transformed any of my Fanstoys figures since Koot because I’m so terrified of breaking them and I was fine with that because robot modes are spot on, and incredible to look at. But if Hydra isn’t worth the trouble of transforming and can’t pose too far out of an “A stance” then what was the point of getting him?

Ngl my biggest issue is that it has just no detail whatsoever. Which yeah G1 is an aesthetic but I’m shooting for Gcreations more

BTW - do the tabs that go into the cockpit (so to speak) even have any other use aside from that mode? Why even tab into that when they can just tab the wings together over it? If they have no other use, I'll just buy it and shave those suckers off.

W/regards to the unpainted head.... his head is supposed to be white. How would you have painted it? White paint? Fully painted figures can be a thing of beauty, but it's less than ideal for a transforming figure. See MP-36 and the "X" Dibots for reference.

For me, the head is perfect. If they painted it in any way, it would just ruin everything. The head, just like his arms and thighs, was simply plain white in the cartoon.That is how it is, and how it's supposed to look like on Sixshot's action figure. So, in my opinion, their choice for painting (for whole figure) is just perfect. No complaints at all.

did you get a new camera? Sixshot is the perfect figure for Flame toys to do.

Good review as always however I can't see how the figure can be recommended when it breaks during filming. For me, a Transforming figure should at least be able to transform without any parts breaking. Robot mode looks good but for a figure, FT has had on the development books for such a long time now I would have expected better from such a great company.

This is one of the only figures I have ever gotten that I didn't do prior research on. The other one was Ocular Max's Saltus. I got them at the same time and opened up Saltus first. Amazing. Loved it. But I was especially excited for Six Shot so I opened it up and it really just.... yeah I don't like it. Tried messing with it again today and the leg flap popped off of the screw somehow! This thing is ridiculous, just get Hexatron! Save yourself!

G1 Sixshot like all g1 transformers, is flawed. It is not perfect, it is more than that, it is immaculate. I can not put into words how amazing that toy is. It truly inspires awe in me and I suspect it will always be amazing. So seeing how all they had to do was give it articulation you can imagine my shock when it poses like shit and is described as ''painful'' to transform into alt-modes that are just "okay".

I kinda understand that all those complex transformation is required to homage the cartoon's "clean" look. But all those struggle to get to each modes that aren't really that good looking don't seems worth it. I own a GCreations Fuuma and I still think it's still probably the better of the two.

If they'd painted the head, it would've looked off from the rest of the off-white on the figure......so I'm good with them leaving it alone. I sorta wish they hadn't put SO much effort into the transformations - it's not worth it! Keep it simple and just make the main couple modes the best they can be. Of course I mean the robot and submarine modes.

Sixshot should’ve been named Clusterf**k to begin with. I think FT did a great job with engineering this. Paint on the head would have been the right thing to do, though.

Wow. DX9 Hanzo, MMC Terminus Hexatron, even Hasbro's Titans Return Sixshot all seem better in terms of materials & tolerances. The alt modes seem pretty weak by comparison, which is unfortunate. (Gun mode obliterates Hasbro's "submarine", though) As for the head, I dunno. I think it could've been a bit larger, but that's about it.

I have the original from my childhood...he looks almost exactly the same...idk if thats cool or if thats some bullshit...cool because its a homage to the original but kinda sad for an upgrade and hes still as BLOCKY as he was when 1st released
