I feel like this makes the most sense cause if it was set in the main mcu, people would be saying where were they all this time since the start of the mcu.

There’s just no possible humanly reasonable or even plausible or justifiable way to put this team with the current day MCU and its group of characters. For once MCU should be applauded for using their brain. Seems like it’s been off for the last couple of movies and shows.
Here is a simple idea. After the battle of new york, the goverment, or hydra agents within the government, funded a voyage to discover more life. The team of reed sue, ben and johnny get hit by cosmic radiation and the ship crashes on a planet. the experiment is deemed a failure by the government. They get their powers and once they come back, its present day. Easy fix without any multiverse nonsense. Also, if they are from another universe, where will their will villains be from? Will they also migrate to the 616 universe? Really disappointed they went this route. Thank god spiderman was not from another universe. If the x men are also from another universe, I will absolutely lose it. On the contrary, this is them not using their brains and using multiverse to justify anything, which is peak laziness.
So it sounds like they're gna go the arrowverse route and have secret wars connect separate worlds together. That movie will likely end with a "new" MCU that has X-Men & fantastic 4 as main roster heroes that have "always" been there.
I personally am a huge fan of this decision. It allows for proper stakes since we don’t know if their universe or Earth will be destroyed, and it avoids continuity errors and questions of “why didn’t x character that was active show up” The MCU is really bad at introducing powerful groups of characters and explaining where they have been the whole time, so I’m a big fan of this change
Glad its in an alternate timeline. The MCU main timeline is started to feel overcrowded, especially when stuff get added into the past which would pose questions as to why it was never brought up before. Alternate timeline also means the retro futuristic style could get pushed even further
I'm not really a fan of the Fantastic Four being set in another universe. I feel like if we weren't in the "Multiverse" Saga, they would found a way to put them in the main MCU timeline. Like they did with Captain Marvel. On the other hand, it gives them 100% creative freedom for the story because they don't have to make it fit in the MCU. But that was what I was excited about, how would they fit the Fantastic Four in the MCU, like how they fit Spider-Man in the MCU when he wasn't originally planned to be in it. Plus regardless of how they put the Fantastic Four in the main MCU, it's gonna be messy for the general audience.
It almost feels like Kevin Feige doesn’t have much confidence in this film and that’s why it’s going to be set in an alternate timeline. However, I like the idea of it being set in the 60s as this could potentially give the film a more distinct style. I do think this film might be setting up Galactus as the next Big Bad, and I’m assuming that he may end up destroying the Earth from this timeline which prompts the Fantastic Four to travel to the future where our current MCU is.
Tbh I’m so so glad it’s in a different universe,in my honest opinion the Mcu 6-1-6 universe has been played out,like what can you do in that universe that’s hasn’t been done before. For example the mcu can do a movie where I don’t know captain marvel gets transfer to the X men universe and have her fight rouge,or a hulk movie where he encounters different versions of the hulk.
Why can't it be set in the 60s and still main MCU? I know it's a bit of a cheat with the existence of the Quantum Realm, but why not have them trapped in the Negative Zone? Also, if Doom is included, he could either be the son of a friend of Reed's back then, or is trapped with them and he gets out when they do, causing his want to retake Latveria.
This is is currently called "The Multiverse saga" for a reason. There needed to be at least one film that takes place in other universe to introduce some new characters into the main MCU timeline later on. The Fantastic Four fits very good with that to be considered the first Superhero family on Marvel. In fact, I am gonna go a step further and make a theory that we already saw MCU movies and TV Shows set on different universes. I think stuff like Secret Invasion could be retconned in that way, but let's see.
Personally, I'm the opposite. I have always thought setting it in another universe would be great! It gives the film greater creative freedom (Wasn't a rumored reason for Edger Wright's Ant-Man not happening that Marvel rewrote it because it didn't fit into the Sacred Timeline?). Now you don't have people questioning the timeline. Plus, if we still eventually do Secret Wars, we will have another Earth that could crash into the MCU's reality. Heck, it would be cool if the film had alternate versions of MCU heroes as lil cameos! A reality where the FF has always been there. Only thing I don't get is why set it in the 60s then? It's an alternate reality. I'm sure you can just say this reality feels like the 60s because the 60s never went away there. But all good though. Hope this means that the film can just be a great film instead of trying to be a great MCU film :)
I think the “alternative universe” plot line will be fine if it’s only for this movie. What’s probably going to happen is Galactus is going to destroy their world and the F4 are going to have to travel to an alternate (MCU) timeline to survive the destruction. So, if it’s only for one movie, I think it will work. Thats my opinion though
Maybe the F4 could have been set in the 60s in the 616 timeline and could have been heroes out of time in later later entries. Stuck in the quantum realm or negative zone until they're sent to back to their world in the present.

I dig it. Being in an alt universe cleans up a lot of gymnastics they would need to go through on why the team hasn’t been there. We had this problem with Eternals and that was a big weakness. The stakes for the multiverse will be real and the threat that causes them to need to work with earth 616 will be better setup.
People complain that it’s a multiverse saga nd no multiverse movies…they give us one with fantastic four (which is literally their shtick-multiverse, multidimensional, cosmic adventures) and yet people still complain. Marvel can’t win anymore. You can’t complain they don’t do one thing, they do it, then be like “yeah I’m not too thrilled it’s in a different universe”. I guarantee yall would be grilling marvel bout plot holes on where they’ve been, why no one’s mentioned them, etc. People will complain no matter what marvel does now
In Multiverse of Madness, Strange made a joke about Fantastic Four charting in the 60’s, so he might be the one to bring them into the MCU. Also, this would mean that we would have known that the new Fantastic Four movie was set in the 60’s ever since MoM
