Personally, I wish GL had started making Ep 7 *immediately* after 3; the OT actors were about the right age at that point to be older, but still young enough to be plausibly raising a next generation, who we could have seen as youths. And his storytelling was visibly getting better by the movie, so if that progress held, his next movie after RotS should have been better still! From being there at the time, the Prequel Hate didn't really set in until some years later, when certain online sources hit it big by making fun of them...If Lucas' ST had come out by then, and been really good, chances are it never would have gotten that bad at all! So, the Disney sale doesn't happen, but OTOH, we don't have Galaxy's Edge, so it's a trade-off...

Lightsabers mean nothing anymore. Remember Qigong dying from one stab. Now we have Sabine who can survive being stabbed. The old star wars showed you the entire lightsaber battle from start to finish, but the new ones cut midway. 😢

For me at least, no. Everybody has at least one extra thing outside of the OT that they adore, and for a lot of people that one thing might even be better than the OT. For me it’s the final arc of Clone Wars, others might say something like KOTOR, but I think that while the brand has been damaged, people forget that the OT can still stand on its own, and we would lose a lot of truly incredible pieces of art had the universe just ended then. I would easily go through all of the terrible crap that Disney is churning out just to keep the actually good stuff they gave, and I think a lot of people are exclusively acting like Disney has only produced trash when they’ve made some of the best stuff out of the whole franchise.

Absolutely yes, it was perfect ending, they should go back and make Old Republic movies ( but with planning in advance stories unlike sequel trilogy ). You can go thousands years before episode 1 and make as many movies as they like, just to be carefull to not ruin what comes in first 6 movies. Rogue One was really good, they could also make movies like that, spin off movies durin OT or The Clone wars era, or to focus on some bounty hunters a little personal story not involving stakes of the Galaxy, but they should not touch period after episode 6, it was just perfect ending

Yes, the answer is yes. I have much the same opinion about Rocky and First Blood. I recently did a full timeline rewatch with a "younger" friend who swore I would appreciate the prequels more if I would just watch the Clone Wars. I turned out that I really liked a lot of the Clone Wars (there was a lot of filler, especially early), but I still have the same problems with the prequels.

Especially after Disney’s tried with their stuff and realizing that yeah, even though the results are much more favored now, George Lucas himself couldn’t really replicate the charm of the original trilogy. So yeah I would probably been fine with just doing the Original Trilogy, it’s better to want more and not get it, than to get crap and have it tarnish the legacy. And that’s coming from someone who does like some elements of the prequels, about a movie and a half of the sequel trilogy, and I LOVE Andor.

Honestly there were some things that Fox did better than the MCU even perhaps laid the grown work for the MCU. Take, for example, upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine the film would not have happened if Fox didn't take 7 years trying to figure out how to do Deadpool right after the diastorous X-Men: Origins Wolverine. Another example although unrelated are the Fantastic Four films (which the actors who played Johnny Storm in the three films would later play Captain America and Kilmonger in the MCU) where Fox practically laid down what the MCU can and cannot do with them in film. That said are there some things that the MCU did better Fox? well yeah actually. Keep in mind that Fox wasn't the only studio Marvel was learning from on how to make a comic book movie. They were also learning from New Line Cinema on the Blade movies and Sony on the Spiderman movies . Alot of what they learned from those studios you can sort of see in the first 10 years despite being producer driven. I say sort of because even though they learned from other studios, The MCU was still learning on what does and does not work. That said what did the MCU do better than Fox? switching up the tones. Phase 1 of the MCU is vastly different from the MCU today. Its not until phase 2 and when the MCU started to venture into television with stuff like the defenders saga (yes the Netflix shows are canon) where they would start to switch up the tones. In other words for every project that was more comedic comes a more serious one. Not saying the Fox X-men movies having a serious tone was bad however that can get stale (which is why the Deadpool movies work better as more Superhero comedies with serious moments). Infact oddly enough something Sony learned with the Spiderman movies and why they switch up the tones of each film to varying degrees of success. Apologies for the length of this comment and yes i'm fully aware of how nonsensical it sounds. I was just giving my two cents where did Fox do better than the MCU and where did the MCU do better than Fox.

Assuming we keep the Prequels, yes it should have. Not even just because of the quality of the Sequels themselves, but because it was a complete story at the point anyway. I’d say the same to George’s sequels. The “let it go” moment from Last Crusade really applies to George the more and more I think about it too.

Yes. There was nowhere to go but down after the OT. There are 2 pathways here. One is the BTTF route. Where it’s a universally beloved and iconic trilogy. But the creators won’t let sequels or spin-offs happen. “Over their dead body” is pretty much their attitude. Because they understand that the trilogy is magic. And stretching it out to make more money is killing the magic. They understand the value in what makes something truly special. The other route is the MCU. Where it was on top of the world for a while. But now it’s in a downward spiral, and it will probably never recapture the magic. But of course they will keep making them because people keep paying for it. Disney understands the value of money. With both Star Wars and the MCU. The company as a whole has lost sight of what made their movies special. Making all of this extra content, even if it’s good occasionally, kills the magic. The OT WAS SPECIAL. Now Star Wars is just a franchise with more misses than hits. With fans getting more apathetic by the day. That’s REALLY sad when you think about. They took something that had the magic, and crushed it’s soul. Star Wars is dead now because they never ended it. It may have a corpse that they keep puppeteering around. But it’s heart and soul is loooong gone. Star Wars would’ve been at its peak if they ended after the OT and it’s EU. No fan division. No toxic fandom. No 2:1 ratio of bad content to good content. It just would’ve been a trilogy that’s beloved across generation. And it still is, but Star Wars as a whole was killed because they kept making more.

If it was just the original trilogy, it would be a great batch of films on its own, but I'm also glad people are getting into Star Wars with additional material like my generation was with the prequel trilogy and younger kids are with the sequel trilogy, because the lore around it is massive and there's plenty of stories to tell. That's one reason I've been enjoying The Acolyte is because it's a new story told in an era that's not been explored much in the franchise, and there's been some cool stuff with that series.

What the Prequels did best for SW other than having the best lightsaber duels thanks to Nick Gillard was it did expand the lore better. The Prequels and the animated series that followed them like The Clone Wars and Rebels expanded much more than what the OGs could ever do. Even watching Ahsoka last year, I had to research from Wookieepedia to understand more of the lore and even had to watch some TCW and Rebels episodes to understand who were the Mortis gods. I think a lore as big as Star Wars is meant to keep expanding. It’s not like Indiana Jones where we don’t feel it needs more than three movies. Star Wars and Game of Thrones are IPs meant to have more content created for the deep lore they bring. Like I’m excited for more GRRM’s lore like A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms next year to quench our thirst if we have to wait for HOT D S3 until 2026. They are considered franchises and there’s going to be a lot of content coming out for them whether they’re good or bad. They’re being created to cater to their fanbases and then help grow that large community for future generations. Think how much Nintendo has raised tons of gamers by always thinking like Disney and targeting mostly children. It’s an endless business cycle for them because Nintendo holds our childhood nostalgia for gaming. Star Wars is a forever franchise. Like they will always create more content for it long after we all die. Star Wars, Star Trek, Godzilla, James Bond, and George R.R. Martin’s lore will never die. They will keep expanding and evolving. The oldest franchise in cinema is actually Sherlock Holmes and they’re still making content from that name. Sherlock Holmes was written and was a short film long before Superman and Batman were created. *“Forever* *Franchise”* publishingperspectives.com/2015/12/star-wars-making-forever-franchise/ As for me, I’m a year older than Sean Chandler, and like Sean, I will always prefer the Original Trilogy. I actually had the despecialized versions of them last year but deleted them because I couldn’t hear the audio from them and no sound again after I uploaded them all to my Google Photos. I’ll probably redownload them again if I find the 4K ones too large. I think The Empire Strikes Back is a perfect movie the same way I feel about The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather I & II. Has everything you can want in a movie with iconic quotable lines. The old schooler/purist in me will always prefer the OGs more. The only Prequel movie I enjoy is Revenge of the Sith. The first two episodes can be a chore to watch and I’ve seen them many times including multiple times in the movie theater sitting inside a packed midnight showing for them. The OG had a simpler story to follow and the group of characters were far more likable. The Prequels were missing a funny man in Han Solo. Then Vader didn’t show up until the final 10 minutes of ROTS. There’s something magical watching the OG Trilogy that has never faded away for me. A classic story involving a farm boy, a princess, an old wizard, a pirate, a couple of robots, and a big baddie with tons of charisma. It’s the same way watching the Back to the Future Trilogy and the first three Indiana Jones movies. Something magical watching those first three. Maybe it’s our childhood nostalgia talking to us but it’s like The Goonies and The Sandlot. They all still hold up very well 30-40+ years later. They have a timeless appeal. Good or bad, I will still finish The Acolyte. Yeah, yeah, I know it has tons of problems, but I will finish it. And then I’m excited for three things coming out for Star Wars…. Andor Season 2 Ahsoka Season 2 (because of Abeloth) Dawn of the Jedi While The Boys S4 is superior to The Acolyte, I do notice more RU-vidrs have been talking more about House of the Dragon and The Acolyte. The buzz is around them. That’s because they have huge established fanbases and their lore is much deeper. Star Wars will never die even if Disney tries to kill it. It’s going to be part of our pop culture forever and ever. We will have future gens saying, “May the Force be with you” and “Hello there!” Now if Hollywood decides to reboot Back to the Future long after Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Robert Zemeckis, and Bob Gale die, I will never watch it unless they can improve certain aspects of it like what Squaresoft did to Final Fantasy VII with their two remake games. I don’t want Doc to be a Black lesbian and Marty to be an Asian girl. That’s Hollywood for ya. Back to the Future might be the only one that Hollywood hasn’t ruined yet….

Yes and no. I truly think ideally the best continuation would have been to adapt the Thrawn trilogy back when the OT actors were still young enough to pull it off. But you could have continued the story. It would have been harder to do without undercutting the OT but hard is NOT impossible. Honestly, if I had some controlI would have pulled a Star Wars Legacy. Time jump 150-200 years into the future and utilize some new characters. Preserve the victory of the OT and the heroes and if you wanted to do a ANH repeat and have the Jedi crumble, fine. At least, we would have had the excuse of the New Jedi order prospering, Luke Skywalker being a continued hero, possibly marrying Mara Jade and everything our heroes fought so hard to keep in tact. Instead of an awful soft- reboot that is the New Coke of the OT while undercutting the OT. If you excuse me, I'm going to resume the Hand of Thrawn duology(good old Star Wars EU content). :)

I don't hate the prequels as much. They happened when I was still in school but the thing about prequels...is there's no mystery. There was love. There was action and special effects but we all knew what was going to happen. Anakin Skywalker was to become Darth Vader. We don't know how it happened but we knew it was going to happen. Then, you get the Force Awakens Trilogy and everything is so generic and watered down it's hard to appreciate it even with the good stuff when I see Luke Skywalker again for the first time it's soured by the fact that Han Solo was killed off. I mean, come on. Either you got a story or you don't. You don't need to please fanfare all the time. The story should stand on it's own.
