Far Cry New Dawn was so uninspired, I almost don't even want to put out a review. 😉

Ubisoft: What do our customers want? Customers: An exciting game! Ubisoft: WW2 German weapons? Customers: No we sai- Ubisoft: Microtransactions? Alrighty!

Relatively new sub here. I got the bell clicked now. I don't do AAA games anymore. Not since buying a game stopped being buying a game. Thanks for showing me what I'm NOT missing!

I wont lie, I found the coffee bean story somewhat disturbing.

Ubi1: "Lets do a fresh take on the apocalypse." Ubi2: "How?" Ubi1: "Lets just take the old map and just jizz a bunch of pink all over it! Oh and lets just put a bunch of videogamey shit all over the place instead of all the world building needed for a post apocalypse!" Ubi2: " I just came."

So I own EVERY Far Cry Title. I own most of the modern Ubisoft library. I loved RAGE one. When I saw this I assumed...I could play a RAGE like game without that fucking horrid Bethesda Launcher. This "Game " has changed me profoundly. I was a HUGE, sorry 'UGE fan of the games they made. This game will be the first Far Cry title I just can not bring myself to complete. So I guess I will move from modern Ubi-"skinner Box"-soft and look elsewhere for my open world chaos fix. This sucks as I am a grandfather of 2 and don't have the most abundant amount of time to grind in these games and you are absolutely correct in that they made a free to play 40 dollar mobile port for the PC.

I wanted to get the platinum trophy for every Far Cry from 3 onward and this game singlehandedly ended my streak because I couldn't stand playing it any longer.

Ubisoft is becoming a bigger meme each year. Yearly Far Cry and Assassin's Creed releases, a burgeoning amount of microtransactions to replace mechanics and storytelling and just flat out disappointing fans.

The game provides a way to get everything you need, in abundance, without ever having to buy a single thing. I have every weapon, the good ones are upgraded to insane levels. I didn't buy a single thing inside the game. All I did was spent alot of time in the world, looted my kills, completed challenges, repeatedly liberated outposts, did all the expeditions, harvested animals. I completed the game with massive amounts of resources that were never used. The prestige weapons and micro-transactions are for lazy people. The story was not engaging though. There wasn't any character development besides the twins.

I've basically given up on Ubisoft games being more than mediocre microtransaction storefronts with a game built around them. I got burnt on The Division 1, then subsequently with Siege and Wildlands, and I refuse to buy their games new anymore. A new Splinter Cell might pique my interest, but I won't hold out hope that it won't be a mediocre shitfest given their current track record.

Probably the only suppressed gun that might cause the bullet to slowly exit the barrel is the ww2 "assassin pistol " aka the Welrod Mk2, but this might happen with the first round in a new "barrel"

I would have e thought that AAA publishers would have the stream friendly mode cost for atleast 5 bucks. Ubisoft and EA stop writing that down

It’s sad and frustrating, because I have a co-worker friend who is addicted to a mobile wrestling game and has literally spent thousands of dollars of real money to stay ahead. He’s nearly fifty years old. No matter what I say about how the gaming industry is trying to suck up our money, he won’t quit.

Since the ending isn't covered here, I'll just say it's Ubisoft telling the player: "I hope you have grinded to hell. Didn't you? Oh well, you can pay to finish the game." It was lucky I had some perk points left at the time, so I spent them on the punching skill, which you can level as much as you want. Punched the twins to death. The worst climax ever. New Dawn really felt like the true ending of fun in Ubisoft games.

For those that are interested the good stuff is indeed in the 3rd Part of the game. The story remains pants (but does anyone play Far Cry games for the story ?) I don't ; I play them as they are the comfortable old shoes of Videogames. Oh and I really like the tier 3 crafting mechanic it does something Far Cry 5 fails to do which is get you to keep playing as it allows you (with a bit of work) to upgrade pretty much anything you like, you want to punch like the hulk - you can, you want to have a level +20 vector with the ammo capacity in the hundreds you can. & you can keep doing this seemingly forever. I think this is a terrific feature. Bad points ? well it could do with a couple more expeditions, the ability to change sights and suppressors and perhaps a few more Outposts. But what there is works for me. This isn't a main series game - you can get it for about £22.00 (as of late feb 2019) with a bit of hunting and it will likely be even cheaper fairly soon. I like it and yes I would recommend people buy it if they liked the previous games - if they don't then listen to the review - but it's 100% my cup of tea. In the way that The division really isn't. Is it a bit crap - quite possibly but just as 21Kiloton doesn't mind that The Division 1 or 2 isn't as polished as it could be at launch _ also don't mind this game being what it is - as it's what I expected it to be - I don't feel disappointed as I got what I expected to get when I got it. I suspect I will like it better than Rage 2 as well.

I actually enjoyed chasing after the next rank with the guns. Or chasing down a bear to get enough titanium to craft the gun I wanted. Out of the whole game, the way to get the guns in this, actually gave something worth grinding for. And It felt rewarding to be able to craft new weapon. But after u rank up, all the guns before mean nothing. This is worrying me now that I'm half way thru the game. I play it on co-op with my daughter. She absolutely loves it. Even after trying to explain the greedy microtransactions to her. I'm worried about how these microtransactions will increase or get worse. Especially for my kid as she is enjoying these games in the future. I'm sick of them. Why cant they give us far cry without an in-game store in a single player game? Why cant they take the effort they put into the store, and instead put that effort into making a bigger and better game. I ask myself theae stupid questions while playing new dawn. Thoroughly enjoyable video, had quite a few laughs, but let me say I'm having a lot of fun playing this game. It doesn't take itself seriously, yes it's formulaic to the extreme - as all Ubisoft games these days - and has a functional but totally uninspired storyline. Just like Far Cry 5. Here's my counterpoint though. The things you complain about with FCND are things you could have said about Assassin's Creed Odyssey. ACO is in fact much more exploitative than FCND. You really don't need to purchase anything to win the game or aquire the best weapons - it will just take you longer, as it should. ACO, on the other side, was actually finetuned in terms of gameplay to be a slightly annoying grind fest, in order to make you purchase perk and resource boosts. And all the awesome looking outfits and packs are purely cosmetic in nature - oh yes, they come along with some cool weapons but you really won't be able to upgrade them to your level because it's so resource expensive to do so to epic weapons and armor that you'll just have to let them go. That's why they introduced the option to use the look of any weapon and armor you aquired before, on other items. Now, I know Ubisoft deserves a lot of criticism. And not everyone enjoys their games. And I do wish they would invest in stronger narratives, and be more ambitious with their games (I mean, other than making money). But the truth is Ubisoft is investing in the single player RPG, and are not turning into the kind of stupid strategies EA/BioWare and others are going for. So, I don't know... I understand where you're coming from. I played RDR2 for maybe 50 hours and not once did that game asked me for money. Everytime I open ACO and that game is trying to sell me something. But not everyone can rely on such a big consumer base as Rockstar does. Maybe a compromise is needed, games are hugely expensive and companies like Ubisoft are trying to find ways to expand the monetization window of the AAA video game. In the end, all these purchases are optional and consumers should be treated like adults. You buy extra stuff, it's your choice. Ubisoft isn't forcing you to do anything. Just my two cents. Really enjoy your videos, even this one, quite a lot, although I disagree here and there.

I liked FC5 and I liked FC-ND I got what I paid for it back out of it. Game of the year? Not Hardly. Dumb run and gun fun? Yeah without a doubt.

It is enjoyment only in the sense of comparison to the latest and greatest offerings put out by big game developer. Overall your editorial is spot on. The boredom level was pretty high nothing really special. Another run and gun feel good open world progression for empty emotional feel good fun. With a empty unfulfilled storyline.

Ubisoft's never ending greed. Is why I don't buy their games anymore.

I really enjoyed playing the game actually. I mean, I think it was quite over-priced, the story was pants at best, most of the characters were poorly-written, including the villains which were uninspired and boring, but for whatever reason, I really enjoyed playing the game. Still, good review, despite it starting off with one of the weirdest analogies I hope I can forget to hear.

I realize this vid is a year old, but I don't buy games new - I usually wait a year after patches & dlc have been released and then I go checking reviews... That said, the first 1:20 of this video was the funniest shit I've heard in a really, really long time. Maybe someone can explain the meme to me, but why is Ubisoft including MP-40 or MP-38 indicative of you know tendency for "Nazi memorabilia" or what not... it seems bizarre to me given: A. Nazi party had nothing to do with the weapon development B. If something as cheap as an MP-40 gets labelled as that... then holy shit... does this mean having Tiger tank in a game with tanks count as you know.... "Nazi memorabilia"? given the tank's prominence in Nazi propaganda? Or you know... if someone really likes Kar-98K (because let's face it... some of us PROBABLY OWN ONE... since the surplus wasn't that expensive before) and therefore likes it (duh if i own it, i probably would like it especially if it's good)... does that count as liking Nazi memorabilia? I don't get it...

No you are off base with "Nazi" guns , just even the small amount of guns shown in the clip it pretty clear they are just doing famous guns or guns that look interesting which is pretty typical for shooters. A quick check of the weapons list and there are a good dozen or so guns from all around the world that you would wonder how they ended up in Montana. But agreed the game is rather shite overall.

I actually enjoyed the recent Lost on Mars expansion. It did not take itself too seriously and modified the core game play just enough to be novel. Not a bad purchase (the Vietnam expansion, however, is trash). Very sad to see the microtransaction practice continue. Coupled with psychological manipulation (I think pink is used to pull in small children who play fort night and have access to their parents' credit card), this is very uncomfortable. Thanks for your take on it.

Didn't like the art direction when it was announced but was still thinking about buying it. Then I remembered that I didn't finish far cry 5 because the game crashed and deleted most of my progression. So I went to check a stream of new dawn, and it was felt boring, so fucking boring, that I left to do other shit after maybe 15 minutes. Also the music seems really, really bad. So glad I didn't accidentally buy this.
