17:40 Man, Toby is such a rock star. That was the *perfect* "No, not yours," for a dog. Firm, clear, not overly aggressive. Side note, your "yes" works exactly like the clicker. I've always prefer to just use a vocal cue instead of having to have another thing in my hand for rewarding.
@technicaldifficulties368

I prefer the yes over the clicker as well. It marks good behavior more naturally imo. Don't have to fumble with a clicker and possibly have a delay

I 2nd that completely, Morgans intelligence shows in behavior of other animals, progress, how to and not to do things etc, I highly doubt I would be able to adabt and learn so much in such small time and at the same time work a full time job with other shit. Currently saving money to buy a house to raise animals in Sweden and it will be my life project where I will live and die, but I doubt I will be able to live off of it, but to me its not about that but living with nature and farmlife because I find it peaceful. Some people might find chickens, geese, ducks, cows, pigs, cats and dogs to be stressful, but personally I find it liberating and a big calm to the soul to live with animals. Unfortunately thanks to the Europe War of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine house pricing and loans has become a disaster together with the increase in cost for every single thing in existance in Europe, like a 25% increase in cost on everything, so my goals has been postponed for most likely 6-8 years.
@newguy3588
@newguy3588 2 года назад
@@kakap0788 Same here. I've been following the housing market very closely since I was pre-approved for a loan and the houses are bought up instantly with cash, 20% over asking price (over here in the states anyway). I simply cannot compete. Morgan got in at just the right time. I'm sure it's different circumstances between the two of us as we're an ocean apart and have different influences on our lives due to that, but I am in the same boat as you and feel very frustrated about it all. I just want a nice piece of land to raise some small animals on, have a garden, and be able to do whatever my mind finds interesting to hone or learn new skills. I wish the best for you. "I find it liberating and a big calm to the soul to live with animals." I 100% agree. It sounds like a fairy tale at this point doesn't it? Sad, but I'll keep trying my best.

@@kakap0788 Oh, one more thing I'd like to add after re-reading your reply. I feel ya on how you mentioned it's stressful to work with animals, but the rewards are 10 fold. It's a sensation of accomplishment and companionship. I think a lot of us weren't given opportunities to venture into this type of life style, regardless of status. Like we're cogs in a machine dreaming of making an independent life for ourselves.

Abby is such a smart dog already and needing very little scolding but clearly responding to the positive reassurance that she is a good dog❣️❣️I love how she sits very much like a lady so she is appropriately named Lady Abby♥️♥️ she and Toby will make very beautiful babies in my opinion not to mention extremely smart puppies❣️❣️❣️❣️ I am so happy you were working with Abby‘s instructions right away, Morgan!! You are so good with her and very good to make sure that Toby is not jealous of Abby and also not to upset Toby‘s routine such as, feeding him first even though I know you have the instinct to want to feed the puppy first because it’s a baby, she doesn’t care whether she’s fed 1st or Not!! Also I like it that you train lady with Toby so that he doesn’t get jealous. I think by doing them together he will feel like he’s a part of things and he’s not being left out and so there’s no room for jealousy. She gets praised and he gets praised. He also gets a sense of jjjjj you’re wanting her to do so that he begins to understand what he will need to do to keep her safe as well as in line as d

Oh Morgan you just tickle me. I was giggling all through your staff meeting with the birds. I tried using a clicker with my pup but it was cumbersome, and I would often forget to grab it. So I just made a clicky noise with my mouth. It was much easier timing wise and just as, if not more effective. I used a different, lower noise as a warning alert, as she got older I rarely had to correct her with anything more than the warning noise. That's just what works for me though, I'm sure you will figure out what works for you and Abby. & Congrats!!📖🌈

@alertedcoyote7892 2 года назад
What I really liked about Toby's interception was that it was firm but fair, Toby is a) showing that he has seniority and b) showing that he considers your word law. You said it was his treat, therefore it is. It didn't cross over into food defensiveness either which is exactly what you'd want to see from a guardian dog like Toby. Although you can definitely see he considers her different to the rest of the animals on the farm, he definitely recognises her as above the other animals, and thus he's stricter with her. His little corrections of her will work wonders in the long term, as she gets to grips with her role. You really trained a goodun in Toby, and I'm sure you'll do it again with Abby!

Great job with the training Morgan! Abby has come so far already. I would caution against saying "sit" or "stay" multiple times in fast repetition as it is setting a precedent. Try saying it one time and let it sink in. When constantly repeating yourself, she will start thinking "sit sit sit sit" or "stay stay stay stay" is the command, instead of just simply "sit" or "stay"
@maigepresents5840
@maigepresents5840 2 года назад
Piece of advice from a dog trainer, if you need to use a command more than once then you've failed. Use the voice command, then incorporate a hand gesture to reinforce it. So say stay once, then use a upstretched palm gesture to reinforce the stay. You also need to incorporate a break command so they know when the release.

It's actually better to let Toby do the correction in this case, the lesson will be much better understood when spoken in her language. Her mother would be making the same sort of corrections when she was with her so that is what she understands best. Morgan trying to correct here by stopping Toby or throwing in human language and motions would just lead to confusion and frustration. Best to let the dogs do the correcting/teaching in these sorts of social manners situations.

This was interesting to me. I used to train guide dog puppies. Some of your methods are the same, some are different. The big difference is that your dogs are off-leash all the time which requires more adherance to them paying attention directly to you. My uncle has work dogs on his sheep ranch, they require some different skills as well...and the dogs are further away from him. But all the dogs seem happy to do what they are supposed to do. Being treated well seems to be a common denominator.
