Farmer Resorts to Smuggling Chickens 

Your nesting boxes need to be lower than the roosting areas to prevent chickens from wanting to roost in and on the nesting boxes. They want as high up as possible, and the nest box is much higher than the pallets.

love it when you add the celsius in the screen when you say the temp in Fahrenheit, our country used to hear Celsius. Love how your posting new videos every few days...I want more updates on the ducks, chickens and cattle....most especially during winter..I'm so curious.

Pallets are great for all sorts of farm projects, but I worry about the splinters typically associated with the wood, which could cause problems on your chicken's feet. Taking a few minutes with an electric sander to smooth the roosting surfaces now may help prevent problems later. Also, research shows that chickens prefer to roost flat-footed (think 2x4s set so chickens sit on the 4" side). So, the angle of the pallet roosts is not optimal. Maybe you can set the pallets flat rather than at such a steep angle. My 2 cents.

small tip / suggestion... Ive got 70 free range chickens and half a dozen of ducks They usually get "home" by their own but when I need to help em out , I have good success with a strong laserpointer replaces a stick and reaches much further very convenient especially the ducks run inside quickly :) obviously don't point it directly at them especially their eyes Very helpful if you've got lot´s of chickens and a big area Greetings from Portugal! :) *Hint I´m not saying this is correct way, for me personally it helps a lot

Toby dog is SO adorable I’m just so fascinated at how intelligent and caring he is, especially with how gentle he is with the chicken eggs 🥚 when carrying them in his mouth to move from their hiding spots (so that someone will find them I’m guessing?).

You may find you need to make the next boxes darker & more inviting with covers over the back/front. Most chickens feel more safe to lay their eggs in a darker spot. You also may have to scoot the laying boxes closer to the roost so they can see inside and understand what it is for. But you may have discovered all that by now .

I see you have purchased some additional fencing for your farm. It showed in the background during this video. Glad things are moving along for you during this difficult time of supply and demand.

While chickens like to roost up high, their nest boxes should be lower and darker. I'd put them on the floor or near as on the floor as you can.

you have a whole forest of free roosting branches you could grab, also being round, a lot more comfortable for their feet, without the square edges.

If you're concerned about moisture build-up from the chicken feces under their roost, a layer of peat moss solves that and is easy shovel up and compost for fertilizer in the Spring.

While all the animals are getting crankier as it gets cold, Toby Dog is cranking it up and enjoying it.😀👀🥶☃️

I was wondering if you might consider a special tag for Toby. There is a feeding method which will protect his and Abby's food. It has a computer chip that will only open for the user. This would not open for Pablo. Just a thought so Pablo gets the food for his protection and Toby gets his complete meal.

yknow watching toby in his element as you say morgan, really gives me inspiration to own a similar breed if my ambitions can be made reality, the climate i live in is totally suited for the type of dog morema's and other similar dogs are seeing as i live in alberta canada! winters here are like a doubly cold version of your own winters, more snow and a much longer duration but overall similar, the winter provides context for how utterly insane the growing season is, things just shoot up out of nowhere. but i absolutely do aspire to own a plot of land which i can raise a small flock of ducks(or possibly geese, youve played a major role in my interest in those birds) for personal satisfaction. for reference i actually gained a major attachment to ducks as a child because my 8th grade class did an egg hatching project, and we ended up with a pair of class pet ducklings! seeing as it was a special needs school i also ended up being the ducklings favourite person among the kids due to the fact that i was the only one who knew better than to manhandle the poor things. i was even given a "mock" award at the end of the year which titled me "duck father of the year" due to how diligent i was over those little birds. we were also allowed to take the ducklings home for a weekend provided the parents signed off on it and since i was the only kid living outside of the city the school was in, i made a perfect home for those little guys, we had them in a large (i'd like to say at least 25 gallon tote container) and since i had a nice big yard with minimal predators (robins nested yearly at that house and never once did we find so much as a raided nest) the ducklings were more than safe to follow me around the yard, munching up bugs and grass and other such forage they wouldve eaten. it made such an impact on me that i swore off eating duck until i reached the age of 20 and decided to give duck a try due to a recent bout of exploring new foods i'd been on. and even then i still felt a tad guilty xD as if i'd killed and eaten one of my own kidsnowherefor the dedicated farm,

All I would probably be thinking about is how cold I am and having some hot chocolate. The low tonight is 27 and even that to me is cold. When we dealt with the freeze last year, when it got down to 7° that was even too cold also whenever you said good night geese I suddenly thought that it makes a good title for a children’s book

I think all the chickens really likes all the heat in there & that is why they like it better then in the old place. & when you get the Mother Han & her 2 older baby's in there they will like it to. So glad they are all happy. I like all your animals. & Love Toby & the cats.
