I tried to do this in my bathroom last night. I have a miter saw one those plastic guides. I could not get my head around the inside and outside 45. One of those snips would work a lot better 🤨👍

Thanks, this is the point I am at with my own kitchen. What kind of caulk do I use, and where do I apply it? I have an engineered hardwood floating floor and 1/4" thick toe kicks. I will be using pre-painted pine quarter-round. I don't have that tool, but I have a miter saw.
@crdriscoll1
@crdriscoll1 2 года назад
I use Alex Flex paintable white caulking fast dry. Usually caulk just the top side of your moldings and have a clean wet rag handy with a small bucket of water to rinse the rag out. Once you apply the caulking with the caulk gun take and wet your finger index usually just moist not dripping and run it across the area you did with the caulk gun in both directions cleaning your finger off often to keep it from making a wide caulk joint. Hope this help’s.. This is if you are painting the molding. If you are staining it or want it natural then really don’t need to caulk.

if I buy the quarter round, install all the trimwork, and then use a caulk to fill in the staple hole or even any minor gap where the two ends meet. The colors never seem to match. The baseboard never matches the quarter round, the quarter round never matches the caulk. Any advice you can give me so I’m not installing all this and then having to have to repaint everything?
@crdriscoll1
@crdriscoll1 Год назад
Great question most trim is only primed. Giving that it will almost always show a difference in the Spackling to fill nail holes or even caulking. I always run my finger down the caulk line and then wipe with wet clean rags to minimize the (squeezing out effect) of the caulking and run that rag right over the nail holes. That may make the colors less noticeable but use like a 23 gage nail gun and that leaves a very needle size nail hole that almost invisible to the naked eye. Hope this will help some. Thanks for watching and commenting

Depending on how big the gap is will depend on what you can do. You could add some trim stock at the bottom of the door casings if you have like 1x4 trim but if you have Basic door casing trim it has a curve to it you may be able to find using a caulking that matches close to the color floor could help take the Eyes away from it. Exactly what it is a rental property and could not use shoe molding as who ever installed the floors left way to big of a gap. In my opinion I would install baseboards after floors then use no shoe or quarter round

Acute or obtuse will determine if your angle is in front or behind a 45

Thanks for the vid brother. I haven't been on a trim job for a minute. I'm a stone mason/landscape construction contractor. I've done quarter round back in the day and this just gave me a good refresher and an update. We didn't do it this way back then. I dig it. I just finished a basement trim job today. Keep up the good work. If you ever need any tips as far as what I do, by all means, let me know.
