When I was younger a lady had cut my hair several times and we had developed a great bond (so I thought) -- I talked my husband (then fiance) into getting his hair cut by her one day instead of shaved up by a barber -- we BOTH go in for back to back appointments with plans immediately after (I show up with a wet head since she is about to cut and style it) -- she cuts his hair, spends a LONG time on it, complimenting him from start to finish -- "you're so handsome" she would go on and on, "your eyes are gorgeous", every now and then looking to me, "OMG where did you find him" -- now mind you, she was at least 10 yrs older and married, so I didn't think ONE THING of it, thought she was being nice (young and DUMB I tell you!!!) -- she finally finishes his hair and says she doesn't have time to do mine, "omg and you 2 have plans, I'm SO SORRY" she says....no problem at all -- she scheduled me a new appt for the next day, and we ran by the house for me to fix my hair quickly before our plans (I still ended up looking half crazy and NOT how I intended) -- the next day, this insane woman proceeded to CHOP my waste length hair up to my NECK -- I'm talking a full blown boy cut, and completely even around (not like a cute bob or layers where it layed pretty) --- I was so horrified and confused I just kept asking, what did you do?? WHY did you do this???? (I had asked for my usual trim!)! She literally just swept my long hair up as I was gawking at what she did, trying to understand it all........needless to say I did NOT pay for it, not that it mattered at that point (I was far more damaged than her 20 dollars or so), but I have NOT set my a$$ in a chair in over 25 yrs, I learned to cut and treat my hair AT HOME. Never again for this one. If you read this whole post then word to the wise --> Do NOT take your man to your hair salon.....EVER.....no matter how much you love the hair dresser or how cool you think y'all are!!! ❤

That's the craziest story I've ever read, what did your husband say
@angelacox8322
@angelacox8322 2 года назад
@@TransmutedLiving LOL that's the craziest part, OFC I've always found him beautiful (black hair, green eyes and beautiful smile) but he was never a "ladies man" or a flirt -- I've noticed many women over the years hardly pay attention to him until they see me with him, then all of a sudden is as if he's more desirable (maybe because he's taken?)! This woman was married (so she claimed) and a decade older -- I will never ever understand what her motivation was or what she aimed to accomplish other than make me unattractive, potentially causing problems. Your mom gave you a REAL blessing and power!!!! ❤

@@happycamper91up71 I can believe it, I still find it cazy too! This is something I left behind and moved on from many years ago, but the last lady's story reminded me of it like it was yesterday -- makes me just as shocked, angry and confused as the day it happened! I said 25 yrs but it's just under -- I was about 17 when this happened and I'm going on 40 today -- it's still disturbing!!! *For what my husband said -- he was confused at my haircut but tried to be nice -- I remember him smiling kind of funny and saying "cute" (but through his teeth really awkward and confused, like "what did you do" look on his face!!) -- keep in mind he didn't return the 2nd appointment so he was completely unaware of what happened. I started crying and told him it's not what I asked for and had NO idea why she did that to me.....he just hugged me, said I was still beautiful (implying "despite it"), he "didn't love me for my hair" and that it would "grow back". TBH it was only after it happened that ALL the things that transpired played back in my head....all the laughing, rubbing his shoulders, compliments and flirting she did throughout the ENTIRE time. I was so unbothered I remember walking around browsing products half even paying attn to it, but once in a while she would laugh so hard she would about slouch over to his head while holding his shoulders, and I would think to myself "what is so funny" (he generally isn't a funny man!!)!! I was soooooo so naive......

Dominican stylists are typically not professionally trained, so asking them for haircuts & layers is always a mistake. a simple wash & set is all they can do

At this point, i feel like the only way for going to the salon would be safe is if you had a friend record the experience. That way you would have your friend to watch 👀. The stylists would be less likely to be sus.

I don’t go to hairstylist anymore. I worked too hard and long for someone to mess it up. Only me and my friends who have NATURAL hair are allowed to straighten mine. Luckily all of my black (mixed as well) friends have natural hair.

Dominican salons will butcher your hair. lol Idc, but it's true. I've been to more than 1. also, when I was in 6th grade, I had my 1st haircut (I didn't ask for one). Jamaican (they will butcher your hair too lol) beautician did my relaxer and was supposed to do a duby or curls on my hair for picture day. I came in there with an afro puff (straightened, my hair was past my shoulder blades). that woman cut my hair to my ears or just a bit shorter than that. I was devastated. I'm still upset about it, and it's been 2 decades. I've chopped my hair completely bald multiple times as an adult. I love wearing fades and tapered styles but that moment was one of the worst I've ever had. why would someone just do that? like she literally took off all of my hair after it was growing so beautifully. I completely understand that woman's hurt. you go to a salon putting your trust into these ppl for them to damage you. smh since returning natural 10.5 years ago I barely go to the salon. I understand as patrons, sometimes we ask for the impossible, but that wasn't an absurd request, and u don't take it upon yourself to do something you're not skilled at. esp when someone has to pay you.

Omg… I had the same experience! My hair was long after she relaxed it and my girl gave me a Halle Berry. On my prom day. I didn’t ask for that. Luckily, it looked ok and my hair was damaged and it grew back super fast so… (and the style is spelled ‘doobie’)

I'm happy yours quickly grew back. My hair never quite recovered. It grew but not to that original length. That's what hurt the most. We put so much emphasis on hair length in the Black community that I didn't want to be seen as "bald-headed." It wasn't until I returned natural I was able to grow my hair & manage it better. The irony now is I am always cutting my hair before it even gets to shoulder length. I love having a bald head. lol

I went to a Dominican salon for the first and last time. Went for a blow out. No one greeted or even acknowledged me. I sat there waiting for like 20 minutes before I finally asked someone about my appointment. The girl that I booked with (due to her good reviews online) wasn't even there. They called her and told me she'd be there in 20. Almost an hour later (yeah, I'm a very patient and understanding person), an older lady comes up to me and was like, "come on." I introduced myself and she introduced herself, but her name wasn't the lady I booked with. I asked where's so-and-so and she told me she wasn't coming in. Again, I'm patient, so I went along with it. She was washing my hair soooo rough. I had to ASK her to put conditioner in my hair after she washed it too. Went to sit down and get it blow dried. She started sectioning my hair and turned on the blow drier. I turned and asked if she was going to put heat protectant in. She was acting like she didn't know what I was talking about. After I was showing her photos of different heat protectant brands, she sighed and said that she'd go get it. She came back, sprayed some stuff on my hair (probably not even heat protectant) and went on to blow dry my hair. Mind you, I'm a type 4 natural. She pulls out a RAT TAIL COMB! Didn't know it until I felt her ripping through my hair FROM THE ROOTS! I stopped her and had to ask her to use a wide tooth comb. She seemed irritated, but was like "ok mami". She started combing really rough and ended up ripping out one of my ear gauges. I had to stop her again and told her what happened. She didn't even help me look for it as I was walking through the salon looking for it on the floor. I didn't end up finding it. My dumb ass let her finish blow drying it, and I came up with an excuse, saying that it was really late (since my appointment time ran over an hour before I was even seen). I don't like hurting people's feelings or being rude, so I just told her I'd come back the following day for the rest of the service. She told me I could pay when I came back. I ended up paying her for a wash and blow dry anyways because although it was sh*tty, she did give me a service. Needless to say, I never went back.

I'm not really surprised that that brush is causing damage, because the first time I saw it you literally have to wrap your hair around it and pull it, so of course it would cause damage for some part of your hair especially the weak part, and maybe in the long run it will cause damage to all of your hair.

I use the roller blow dryer brush very often and I’ve never experienced breakage from it. You need to be so gentle with your hair when using it. Ensure your hair is thoroughly detangled and protected FIRST. Then start brushing at the bottom and work your way up. You can also blow dry your hair with a regular blow dryer first. I’ve been using it for about two years and my hair is very healthy with little to no breakage. My ends are soft and thick

I use the revlon brush to loosen the curl on my 4 yo niece’s very long and coily tangle proned fine strands. I give her a little olaplex treatment before and I use a heat protectant. It makes braiding her hair easier and we’ve not seen any breakage… and I don’t fool with Dominican salons… a lot of them act bewildered when they have to handle Afro textured hair… ok .. in these walls my hair is treated as an enigma so I stay away.

I have a hair dryer brush and the first time I used it I noticed split ends. I thought it was because I didn't use my normal heat protectant. Second time I used it months later with my usual heat protectant, same thing happened again. My hair is fine and something about the dryer brush just shreds my strands. Now I know others have the same thing happen i'm gonna give it away and stick to my silverbird until I get the shark hair dryer.

I’m sorry but unless you are struggling with alopecia or other form of permanent hair loss crying over lost hair due to a bad haircut is absolutely ridiculous. I’m struggling with breakage on the right side of my hair near the hairline. The hair just will not grow past about an inch and 1/2 in a oblong spot about 1 1/4 wide and 1 1/2 inches long in diameter. I didn’t use any chemicals as my hair is natural. Uncertain why but it refuses to grow just in that section. I’m using various things to stimulate the area but it’s possible it may never grow back. The rest of my hair is about 4 to 5 inches past my shoulders. It just is what it is. I deal with it, I accept it, but I’m not going to cry over it. In 6 months that girls hair will grow out enough for her to get it cleaned up. But the cut on the right side was gorgeous and very flattering. I would’ve just gone to a better stylist and had her work some magic on the left side and rocked that gorgeous cut. We can be so unappreciative of what we have. Trust that there’s a time when precious people and things are lost forever so save you tears for that time. To cry over a bad haircut with all of the sadness and cruelty going on in the world is operating from an immature, egoistic, and superficial mindset. We need to strive to do and be better. ♥️
