Welcome back to my channel, book lovers! February was a month of unexpected challenges and breathtaking journeys (literally). Despite battling COVID, I managed to travel through realms of intrigue, time, and imagination with some incredible books. Join me as I recap my February reads, including Wall of Storms by Ken Liu, Kindred by Octavia Butler, Piranesi by Susanna Clarke, and Binti by Nnedi Okorafor. Then, gear up as we unveil the exciting lineup for March's To-Be-Read list: The Veiled Throne also by Ken Liu, A Song for Arbonne by Guy Gavriel Kay, and A Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez.

Go easy Dark-o, be well, stay healthy! Great review of Binti, my thoughts exactly; very good - not great. Looking forward to hearing about Spear. Jimenez’s prose is definitely strong!

Dandelion Dynasty is absolutely phenomenal. Need to start my reread soon. Kindred and Piranesi are also excellent, and I'll be reading Song for Arbonne soon, GGK is one of my favorite authors. You had a great reading month! Veiled Throne is my least favorite Dandelion Dynasty book but has some of my favorite scenes and passages so I hope you love it!

A great month of reading! Sorry you got Covid, but I loved hearing about how your mother buys books as presents to fit the reader. Also, hooray for prose snobs! Best wishes for March, especially Malazan! 😁

Fellow prose snobs unite! Apart from sickness getting in the way of things, all your books were (as the kids say?) bangers! (I havent read A Song for Arbonne yet, but I have heard nothing but praise for it!) I didn’t realize Binti was targeted for YA readers when I picked it up, so I think my lack of expectations in that regard hindered my enjoyment of the book, but I’m sure I would have enjoyed it much more if I were a younger reader. I hope you love The Spear Cuts Through Water! I’m not nervous to see whether you wind up liking it or not, not at all!

Ken Liu and Octavia E. Butler are my favorite authors. "The Dandelion Dinasty" together with the "Earthseed" duology are the best series I read so far.

I haven’t read Dandelion Dynasty yet, but I’m so excited for it. You’re right that we don’t mess around when talking about the MBotF 😂. Oh man, I'm glad to hear you're doing better! I also got knocked flat by illness for a bit there in February. What a bummer! I feel like between you and a couple of other people I've seen talking about it this week, the universe is really pushing me back towards the Dandelion Dynasty! I read Grace of Kings several years ago but barely remember anything about it - I'll have to prioritize a re-read of that so I can continue the series!

Thank you Chantal! I'm glad you're doing better as well. I would totally recommend reading Wall of Storms after Grace of Kings, because Grace of Kings is my least favorite so far. Liu definitely turns up the heat in the follow-up books.

I wish you all best on your recovery, Dark-O! «A Song for Arbonne» was my favorite read of 2021 (Blaise is perhaps my favorite GGK POV Character!) and «The Veiled Throne» was my dual favorite read of last year (together with GGK’s «Under Heaven»: Great read based primarily on the Historic An Lushan Rebellion during the Chinese Tang Dynasty, with a dash of the «War of the Heavenly Horses» during the Han Dynasty): «Grace of Kings» is my personal favorite in the series (it is actually my fantasy novel published in the last 10 years!), but «The Veiled Throne» is my second favorite, just the prequel is Chef’s kiss! Goztan is such an amazing and heartbreaking character just within the first pages!

Binti's on my TBR list, but I just finished "Who Fears Death" also by Okorafor and I really enjoyed it! Extremely heavy and dark book make sure to check the TW's on it for anyone who wants to check it out

Great video ! Kindred is a life-changing book which I read a while back, but need to re-read & do a proper review now that I am in the bookspace. Hope you enjoy Dandelion Dynasty! I’m so happy that Piranesi ended up working so well for you! 💪 Hearing you talk about your powerful experience with Kindred is making me want to pick that up-sometimes I want to escape our complicated messy reality but other times reading something that asks the tough questions about humanity is needed, as it’s how we can reach toward a greater understanding of ourselves and the world (even if that greater understanding is just realizing how even messier existence is than we might’ve thought). Loved hearing about your powerful experience with Song for Arbonne too and glad we could read that masterpiece right around the same time. I’m excited to track your Malazan journey, as it always produces strong and interesting reactions. I can’t get enough of your passion about your reads!

Thank you so much Ben for your thoughtful and insightful comment. Britton and I had very similar thoughts after reading Kindred. While it served to highlight how far we've come, it more starkly revealed how much further we have to go. We realized existence is indeed even messier than we might've thought.

I'm not a prose snob, but The Spear Cuts Through Water might have made me into one. It's one of the most beautifully written books I have read. It's very different from any other story I have have read. I look forward to hearing what you think of it!

Sounds like it was a great month! I really enjoyed Piranesi as well - it's easily one of the more unique fantasy works I've read in some time. I laughed out loud about your comment about Malazan fans "don't play!" Indeed! I lost a lot of subscribers when I DNF'd the series last year (I'm trying book 3 again this year). Best of luck with the channel growth!
