I am an L&D nurse, and I would say a little personal fan that you can clip to your bed would be a really good idea. You can get them on Amazon. We used to offer them at the hospital, but are no longer allowed to provide them to patients. Labor is hard work, and you can get overheated and nauseous and uncomfortable even with an epidural.

thank you so much for your advice as an expert!! maybe I can get one that I can use for the stroller later.
@ang_131

I just had a home birth and had a fan set up for labouring and it was the best! I had an ice pack I’d put my forehead and wrists on between contractions and between that and the fan, I managed not to overheat. From transition onwards, each contraction is so much work and there isn’t enough time between them to really recover.

@@leighannsays I was going to comment this also, I got a stroller fan from Amazon and had it hooked to the bed handles and it was essential for pushing time

Leigh Ann! I see you daily in my prayers just as I have been for this miraculous journey. If feeling stressed just think about meeting your daughter! She is already 24/7 but face to face…. You have never experienced this love that parents have for their children, leaving the hospital with the baby it feels like a different world than when you went in. At the hospital I was glad to have my own underpants, get some of those big cotton gramma undies. They feel like a big warm hug for all your bits and pieces! Truly! I liked having socks, again cozy homey. Also a big cotton nightgown with access to your breasts if nursing!!! This last trimester will go so fast so relax, be mindful, cherish this time, remember what it feels like. Instinct takes over, you are already a delightful, loving mother. Make dad feel special, needed-they have had no personal interactions/touch with baby yet. I went through it 4 times, still brings tears to relive it with you, Leigh Ann. You will meet your baby soon! All is in Gods Hands-no better place to be. Hug self and wonderful Grant for me. Relax and enjoy, rest up, take care. Love, Laura, now Gramma to 6, so very blessed

This, yes! Literally no one told me about how much you can bleed after birth, or for how long. My hips also had problems pre-pregnancy so after it was so hard and painful to walk around. @@lisarae7823 Yes! I couldn't drive either!!! I had to make multiple appointments with my midwives to figure out why I couldn't sit & drive at ALL! I thought my stitches were acting up. They were extra granulated but my chriopactor took an x-ray because she was concerned & found my talebone was broken! I healed by itself but noone understood what was going on. It was sad. I had 100% unmedicated natural birth so people thought it was from that. It wasn't. Broken talebone a long with massive hemroids. Lots of frozen pads to put on yourself helps too👍 And take Everything the hospital gives you. All the frozen pads & underwears. Ask for 20 of them if your nurses don't sneak them to you 👍💯💖

I am so thankful for x-rays, tests, and doctors that can show what is wrong. It is so important to heal and do what it best for you!! Hey Leighann, I'm so excited that you're at the baby classes stage. The thing I would absolutely pack for the hospital is a fan! My body was holding onto so much water by then that after I had my son I was sweating profusely for two days afterwards. You’re getting closer - so exciting! 3 things we brought to the hospital last year that made things more relaxing: 1. Boppy pillow - much better than hospital pillows and then you have it for feedings when baby is on the outside 2. Favorite card game (Monopoly Deal) - lightweight/doesn’t take up much space, helped de-stress during downtime through my induction 3. Diffuser - we had lavender constantly going and everyone who walked in the room commented about how good it smelled, plus it’s my favorite scent so it helped relax me. Best of luck to you all and thank you for sharing your journey with us!!

Our hospital lighting was awful (really bright or stub your toe pitched black). We kept using that light when we came home for night-time changes and feeds. Out daughter has slept through the night (12 hours straight since 3 months). I think keeping it dark as possible at night truly factored into her good sleep habits. @@leighannsays if you plan on breastfeeding know there’s a chance she won’t take well at first, and it could lead to jaundice. Our experience with phototherapy was traumatizing for me- seeing my new baby crying Hysterically and nurses scolding me telling me I couldn’t do anything about it. I decided I wanted to give her formula and had a nurse try and tel me it was a bad idea, but after she was fed she was calm and finally slept. Just putting it out there that I don’t think you should feel the pressure to exclusively breast feed right away. It’s a learning process. My little one is breastfeeding now with no problems. So If I could do it all again I would make sure she’s fed and give her the formula at the first sign of a struggle. I could have avoided phototherapy, just wanted to share so you may not have to experience the same! I know it’s common but it was the worst feeling as a brand new mommy.

@@TheMeghaniscool21 almost this exact thing happened to me too! it was so traumatizing & i felt like a complete failure only hours after becoming a mom. the lactation consultant was so rude to me & i just wanted my baby to eat! he ended up staying on formula which i had no problems with. we're just trying to do the best we can!

I would say pack a long phone charger, snacks that can be shared with guests, cute outfits for you and baby, nice blankets and swaddles for photos. I also put on some makeup and used my hair straightener 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes , the last few months of pregnancy the rings don’t fit, shoes don’t fit...you have the advantage of having a long torso. I’m 5’ 2” and it was rough. My youngest son was 8 lbs 13 ozs. The pregnancy girdle (back in the day that’s what we called it) was a life saver. And that hutch is sooo you! 💗🍪💗🍪💗🍪

Love watching your baby journey ❤️ and if i had to choose one absolute thing I was SO thankful to have in my hospital bag was a pack of Depends (that’s right, them sexy old lady diapers) because girrrrrrlll iykyk 😅😅😅. Also, I’ve always loved the name Nora. We didn’t use it for either of our girls, but always thought the name was so pretty. Congrats to you guys again! 🥰

Things that I'm soooo glad I had in my hospital bag: 10ft long phone chargers, sleeping bras, mascara, and my full shower stuff (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc). Mascara made me feel slightly put together and having my shower as normal as possible was such a comfort when things were way not comfortable. I wish I had brought my own pillow and a cozy blanket.

Lip balm, eye mask to block light and ear plugs - obviously if Grant is in the room with baby too and you’re able to catch a nap. My room was right near the nurses station and THEY WERE SO LOUD when I was trying to nap…at 3am!! ❤️

I would definitely suggest for you guys to bring a big water bottle for easy sipping with a bendable straw, a portable clip fan, chap stick, and a rolling pin for back labor. Just a few ideas for your hospital bag. 🐶. Luna Bean is so cute sitting on you ♥️

Most useful things I have brought with my previous two was definitely my own shower supplies, an app on my phone for tracking feedings, and snacks. I also recommend taking advantage of all things that the hospital offers! With our last one the nurses went down and grabbed extra diapers, formula for supplementing, and told us to take whatever was in the room baby wise because they have to throw it out!

A hairdryer, I didn’t think to pack one and regretted it. Also work on that baby strength. I had an 9lb 10oz baby girl and absolutely no upper body strength 😂 I’m still tired over a year later holding her

Pregnancy is so crazy isn't it!? I stopped wearing my rings at the end until about a month after I delivered and the swelling in my hands finally went down. I wore them on a necklace around my neck! Thought about purchasing a silicone ring but figured I was already super pregnant and didn't really care if anyone assumed I was married or not? Your rings will fit again I promise! I think bringing your own pillow and maybe a blanket into the hospital is key. Just makes you more comfortable, feels familiar, and easier to sleep when you're able to :) I sprayed my pillowcase and blanket with a little bit of my perfume so they smelled really nice too which is comforting when you're sleeping away from home. Also definitely adult diapers. The mesh underwear are not all that. Get some depends.

I have this nice down feather throw. It's small but very comforting. You can put it over you, or wad it up and place it wherever you need it to bring some fluffy comfort. I feel like hospitals and Dr. offices are always chilly. Do you have a favorite candy? Bring some.
