Fiddlers Ferry Power Station in Warrington, Cheshire is about to have four of its eight towers demolished on Sunday 3rd December 2023. A look back at a view about to change forever.
Thank you for this Jeff. I grew up in Penketh overlooking the mighty towers every day. It became my point of interest to get me home most days and i passed it driving to Liverpool most days and to my nans house in St Helens. I for one am going to miss it so much. This is a lovely video.
I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your video of FFPS. It's great to see that this iconic structure is being documented for general interest & historical archive. I grew up with this almost on my doorstep in Penketh and both my parents worked there until retirement. I think that they'd be sad to see the 'cloud factory' being demolished. I've recently become a UAV pilot and was fortunate enough to re-visit the area and create some of my own footage from the local places that you went to. Haven't managed to edit to yet mainly because I'm unsure which software to buy/use. Happy flying.
Hi Jeff, spent many nights down at Fiddlers sports and social club as my friend Kevin and I supplied and fitted the sound and lighting equipment to the club many years ago and also got to know quite a lot of the staff from the power station. We often had problems with some of the equipment we fitted as the mains voltage in the club was always around 258 volts just a bit on the high side for some equipment, but the funny thing was that the club din't have an electric meter as it was all free ( I wonder why ) , we also had some fantastic bonfire nights down there as we did all the sound system and the music outside on the field for the firework show , it will be sadly missed. Love the channel keep up the good work Jeff. Regards Dave Fletcher. 😀
Hi Jeff... This is actually my neck of the woods now having lived in Warrington for 20 years now. My wife is from Woolston (like Woolton but with an "S" 😊). Thanks for a very interesting and informative video 👍🏼. (Btw for the record, my Dad was born in Woolton village in Quarry Street in 1921.... I was doing some family research and came across your videos in and around Woolton 😊👍🏼)
Good video! the demolition of the plant has made me feel a bit sad even though I am from the south east. I visited Fiddlers ferry a few times during the construction of the fly ash recycling plant which from memory was adjacent to the south block of cooling towers. I understand the environmental reasons for closing the power station but having worked in engineering my whole life it is sad to see sites like these laid to waste. I am guessing the ash recycling will go as well, as I see the council plan to turn the lagoons into a nature reserve?
Hi, yes I heard something similar about making a nature reserve, that could be very nice. The other towers ( so I've heard) are coming down late January or early February next year.
Hello Jeff, One of those towers was rebuilt in 1994 due to falling down in strong winds, that white steam you mentioned always seemed to blow over cheshire as far as Knutsford.
