Fiido C21 Review: Is It a Gravel E-Bike or Hybrid?

In this Fiido C21 E-Gravel review, I take a closer look at this newly-released lightweight e-bike from Fiido. Marketed as an electric gravel bike, does it really live up to that title or is it more of a hybrid e-bike? The Fiido C21 E-Gravel features one of the smoothest and quietest hub motors I've ever come across - the Mivice M080 hub motor and long with torque sensing bottom bracket. There's a 208Wh internal battery and a hi-res colour display. Gearing is a 1 x 9-speed L-Twoo derailleur and shifter, brakes are Tektro hydraulic.
In the video, I take the C21 for a 32-mile ride up to Dartmoor National Park in Devon, UK and put it through its paces on some rough gravel tracks to see how it fairs.
There's also a step-through version called the Fiido C22 - this uses the same electric components but is more suitable for shorter riders.

Helpful Video. I got one a week ago, mainly because I have a lot hills where I live. Lots of gravel tracks as well. It will fit inside my car if I take the front wheel off, which is an easy job. My main issue is the battery drains too quickly, probably because I use levels 2-3 more to get up the hills. Going to try level 1 and see if that improves. Probably need the battery extension. For me its the ideal bike and I'm looking for a vertical rack to store in less space.

Cheers sir! I got mine 3 weeks ago and didn’t think anyone had this bike yet, I couldn’t find any videos of it. So far I like it and I do agree with you about the chain ring being too big…other than that, It’s a great bike. I also have the gravel roadster. I like them both….cadence vs torque sensor…i’m a fan of both.

But the large chain plate can make it faster on flat roads, please remember that this is an e-gravel for leisure and commuting

@@kevenwang8454 it’s branded as a gravel bike, but can definitely be used for leisure and commuting as well. So far, it’s been a great all around bike for me.

One or two big niggles... for one the location of charging port and the non-removable aspect of the battery means you need to charge it where you store it, and that's combined with low capacity it's not as good for many city, as in multi-storey blocks of flats, dwellers... were it at least removable, it'd be far better an option. Once you do get it wet and dirty, the location of the charging port may make it quite dangerous or dirty... Bearing in mind L-Twoo also offers clutch dérailleur designs and 11-51T cassettes (46T or larger) or similar for only a tiny overall price increase, this really should've come with such better system from the get-go, especially with the nigh on 50T front ring. That would've given it both high top speed thanks to the smallest cog at the back and the big one at the front, but also better hill climbing with far larger rear plate... Furthermore, if they want a clutch-less design in the cheaper derailleur, why not strap extra chain guards, or better yet, chain tensioner(s) near the front ring... it'd make more sense if any off-roading is to be had. Then they're selling the idea that it's lockable/unlockable based on proximity of paired devices, but that's just the electronic stuff, it'd be better if they managed some physical lock integrated into it as well to truly lock the bike... Otherwise, it's kind of limited and still power hungry (always-on electronic proximity sensor needs to sip juice, but it's consuming it nonetheless). Funds spent here should've been used elsewhere, eg. for non-electric drivetrain. Also, one cannot forget their solution for HDI with centrally mounted UI with keys and still a "remote" near the grips. It'd be better to either have a bigger screen or have the centrally mounted part sleeker, and just use the remote for interacting, no point in having 2 at the same time. Are the lights synchronised with the computer and powered by the battery? Maybe the front one is, but the rear seems to be a completely separate solution. Again, it'd be better to offer these two powered from main battery or other shared energy source, with controls integrated into the computer for both, than to have smartwatch unlocking feature. Heck, maybe a dynamo on the front wheel to charge/power both lights would be a better non-standard/primitive differentiator... And then, the fact that it has a single water bottle holder point means if you want their extender, you're out of water, aren't you? This should've come with 3 mount points at least, since the battery is non-removable one should be there, another on the top tube and final on seat-post tube. It should've had the front rack mounting option similar to its C22 low-step brethren. Finally, many competitors chose to offer belt-drive on such models, I wonder if going with one instead of this base L-Twoo unit wouldn't improve overall product recipe...

8:15 freaked me out! I thought your camera wingman cut inside you to hide from the car!! like my collie does :-) 10:14 Your left hand on the handle bar .. I get it now :-) I thouroughly enjoyed this video. I would have lost two bars up that hill. I have a knee that I need to get more up to speed. I have ridden racing bikes all my life, I have a mountain bike but I could never push it over its speed limit set by its sad tyres. I think I'll get a C21 to get me back into postion, by training, to perhaps crack it back into action. again. Inspiring video :-)

The fiido gravel or the eleglide citycrosser? Which would be your personal choice to a first time ebike buyer and commuter. Around ten miles round trip , lots of gradient, but long gentle up hills . Bare in mind , your answer will probably be the deciding answer for me 😂. Im down to either of them . Or the estrali e28 if i decide to splash out.

Hello, Great video !!!! I currently own an E-ST100 from decathlon. Do you think the C21 model is better? Because the assistance of my bike has trouble climbing (my weight is 90kg) Thank you and sorry for the not perfect translation. 😅

Oh !! 😮 Thanks for the quick response and all the details!! 😊 my main use is the work bike which is 8km from my home with just a nice climb of 300m. I tell myself that the advantage of the C21 is that I can also use it on a bike without assistance from time to time. what scares me is the 50-tooth chainring!! which one would you take Fiido or EST100?

Hi just noted that you mentioned that the battery can't be removed good security wise , but should 1 of the battery cells stops working then what ? . Does that mean bike has to be cut open to replace the battery or bad news land fill. Possible design flaw. Wish you luck with it. Scott

You can remove the battery from the bottom there’s 4 screws, they even sell replacement batteries

For me it should've had drops if it was a gravel bike but this isn't really for true e- gravel riders i guess who are willing to spend a lot

Great video and guides on your website. I'm trying to find the best value E-bike for around £1500, mainly for commuting and light off road use. My picks are currently between this, a Rockrider E-ST 520 & a Vitus Mach E Urban. Any thoughts? Cheers for the videos, some of the best I've found in weeks.

The fact that the battery is not removable means it can't be changed if it breaks?

I have this bike and the chainwheel is perfect for the road and can handle 15% on low gear no probs. Unless your thinking about cycling up to first base on Mt Everest then id leave it alone. Honestly its much ado about nothing.

NIce review - but check the level of customer support provided by Fiido I have a HEYBIKE EC1, which looks identical except mine has a removable battery. But mine does not work, and never has, the power switch was broken out of the box. If anyone purchases one of the bikes mentioned here I hope that the Fiido customer support is better than that provided by Heybike, which is non-existent, save for a number of messages sending best wishes and telling me how busy they are. BEWARE buying Chinese bikes, its a minefield and there is no consumer protection to help.

It's a Fitnessbike, as easy it is. It's no Gravel, as it the wrong handlebar.

Its a road bicycle, there even no gravel handlebar. You are victim of marketing, or pervert.... idk. For off road, good enough only full suspension bicycle. With this bicycle you only will get problem with your hands, and head.
